Hiya, does anyone on here have facebook at all?
everyone in my job has it.. I refuse to join it... I don't go on to any of those sites like bebo, myspace, facebook...

I've got one, but I don't use it. I heard great things about it that's it's better than Bebo and Myspace and all, but I can't work it . My bad. I'll stick to Bebo & Myspace.

all my mates said its better than myspace and that aswell but i dont think it is and im not too great at using it yet either lea, myspace is easy this is just confusing except i do like the fish
yeah some of my freinds have it, but I'll stick to bebo and myspace, I prefer myspace and my brother seems to think that bebo is better and more popular

Some of my mates have it but I use it as a family thing. I use myspace for friends. I had bebo and hi5 for a long time but I rarely use them both.

I have a bebo, but dont go on it, I have myspace that i go on quite a bit and Facebook im starting to get used to it lol, i think i have a hi5 account but im not sure
I used to have a Facebook but I got fed up of people spamming me every time I went online so I closed my account.
The site is OK and it's simple to use but I just kept getting messaged by randomers every time I went on.
I have facebook, and its better than Myspace. Myspace is good because you can customise your page and add layouts and stuff. But Facebook is sooo much faster. So if you just want to leave a message, its much better. You can tag yourself in other peoples photos as well, which means they get attached to your profile, which is cool. And you can add whole folders of photos, rather than 1 at a time. I like Myspace too, but theres too many errors.
i have it, and don;t really like it, i find it hard to use! i prefer myspace. i don't use any of the others.

I like facebook, it has groups, applications, and no-one can have an eyeblinding layout or pounding music :p once I got to grips with it it's fun. I like the tagging photo thing and also poking people is fun :D
I also have myspace..but there's not much you can do on there, I just keep it for the friends who don't have facebook.
I like it as it's quite easy to use, i was never able to work My Space. It's great as Facebook has a college network so i can keep in touch with my frineds before i go to uni and whilst i'm there. It's also been good for Uni as i have met some poeple who are going to be on my course.

i have a facebook. never really been into all those sites like myspace and bebo etc but when i started uni last year i joined facebook and dont know what id do without it now lol!
facebook rules! Didn't like it at first, but now it's great! Much better than Myspace.
It's so random, as everyone at uni has it, if you don't have facebook as a uni student you're an embarassment. Instead of asking for people's numbers you ask for their facebook.
It's brilliant you go out clubbing with new people then the morning after they've all added you on facebook - quality :D

lol yeh i agree! ive met people while ive been out and only chatted to them for a few mins and the next day theyve added me on facebook. or when we have to do something for one of our modules itll be "well everyone has facebook so just let me know on there"
People tagging you in pictures- how cool is that?! You end up with loads of random pictures from parties, without having to take a camera with ya, and without searching other peoples photos for ages. Its fab!!!!

I joined it yesterday actually. Much prefer it to myspace even though I don't have any friends on there. Still using bebo a lot more though as I have quite a lot of friends on there and I've had it for years.
Only thing I'm not liking is that it seems you have to download a photo uploading tool to put photos on there and you don't on bebo and myspace.

Oh. Maybe I'm doing it wrong then. To do my display picture I didn't have to, but for putting photos into an album, all I got was you need to download the photo upload tool, or something like that.

It takes like, 2 minutes to download that. It means you can upload a whole folder at a time, which rocks. Well worth getting, if you can.

I got out of Facebook because I feel it gives too much information to strangers, I prefer Friends Reunited to catch up with people from the past.
That does depend on how much information you feed into it though in a sense. My info on there is pretty sparce. :)
That is true, but I am not comfortable with others seeing who my friends are and what they get up to (some people don't seem to care from what I saw when I was active on Facebook!). Sounds daft, I know, but I prefer not to socialise quite like that.:)
Does anyone else hate the new layout on Facebook? I sent them feedback (very bluntly) and they replied basically saying they weren't reading feedback.
It's so much simpler to have it all on one page rather than flicking between tabs. It's an unneccessary "improvement" imo, there's nothing wrong with the current layout.

I cant believe I have had facebook nearly a year as im guessing i got it around when i started this thread and that is a year ago in 7 days
I like the fact that all the applications go onto a seperate tab. Some people had soo many of them, their facebooks took ages to load, so it's much quicker now.

Look on your profile where you can change your status. Just below that are different filters. So if you select "posts by others", it only shows messages that others have put on your wall.

The founder of Facebook says the social network will return to its previous terms of service regarding user data.
In a blog post Mark Zuckerberg said the move was temporary "while we resolve the issues that people have raised".
Users had complained after new terms of service seemed to suggest Facebook would retain personal data even if someone deleted their account.
Originally defending the changes, Mr Zuckerberg had said it was to better reflect how people used the site.
He had said the changes were made to ensure that if a user deleted his or her account any comments or messages he or she had left on a friend's Facebook page would not also disappear.
In his updated blog entry, Mr Zuckerberg said: "the past couple of days, we received a lot of questions and comments about the changes and what they mean for people and their information. Based on this feedback, we have decided to return to our previous terms of use while we resolve the issues that people have raised."
Facebook users were advised on the change with a notice posted to their pages when logging in to the service.
He added: "Our next version will be a substantial revision from where we are now. It will reflect the principles I described yesterday around how people share and control their information, and it will be written clearly in language everyone can understand."
He said Facebook would draw up a new governing document in conjunction with its users.
The row and reaction to the Facebook changes to its terms of service reflect a wider issue about user data and who owns the personal information - from comments, to photos and videos - stored on social network accounts, and what happens to it if a user decides to leave a service.
Earlier this week Mr Zuckerberg had likened the persistence of data across the social network, even after a user had decided to leave the service, to e-mail.
In the US, public interest group, the Electronic Privacy Information Center had warned it would file a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission about the new terms of service.
"We think that Facebook should go back to its original terms of service," Epic's executive director Marc Rotenberg, told PC World website.

Just the terms and conditions (The rules of Facebook, I think). Has anyone noticed this new application where you answer random questions about your friends? .. and you get silver if you do, and you find out who's said what about you... I don't like this application at all...are they trying to break up friendships?! because some of the questions and how you answer them could offend some friends, I think!
I dont get it whats been changed?
Facebook changed their terms of use so that when you delete your account, your emails, wall messages and other personal details will remain on their system. Lots of people have complained about it, so Facebook have returned to their previous terms for the time being.

A teenager reportedly stole a laptop in Florida so that he could check his Facebook account.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, 19-year-old Cory Kinney nabbed the $4,000 (£2,770) computer from a Starbucks coffee store in the town of Ellenton, near Tampa.
He reportedly snatched the machine after being told by owner Gary Lyman, 62, that he could not use it to check his online profile.
However, bystanders who had witnessed the incident tackled him in the store's carpark and he was held in custody by the facility's security guard until deputies arrived and arrested him.
Kinney was later charged with the felony offence of robbery by sudden snatching. The sheriff's report quoted him as saying that he "just wanted to do a crime that did not hurt anyone".

Where someone goes onto your facebook and alters your status or personal information.
My brother in law changed mine to say I was bisexual and in a relationship with a man and a woman.
How come somebody else can change your status or personal information? Does not sound like a very safe system to me.
Usually it's because you don't log out, someone sneaks into your room when you're not there or they know your password.
Oh, ok. I am glad that they can't just get into your account to mess around with it. I always log out, even if I am on my own, a good habit, I suppose.

I'm always logged in to everything on my laptop, even hotmail. Nobody else uses my computer so I feel safe enough and it saves me time. Only trouble is when I come to use other computers I can never remember my passwords. Consequently I've changed them all to one of two passwords. Not very safe but they are memorable and nobody would ever guess them because they are so obscure :ninja:
OH took our laptop to an engineer colleague who put a DVD in and then all passwords ever used came up  And he got the DVD legally, can't remember where from.

Not very safe but they are memorable and nobody would ever guess them because they are so obscure :ninja:
same i use the same 2 passwords as well, id never be able to remember them all otherwise!

I had a list in my computer at work, because I have so many passwords. Sadly I accidentally deleted it a couple of months ago, now I have to re-do it again :wall:

When we're in college and in a boring lesson, we share my mates phone and go on Facebook... we always forget to sign off, and one of us is always changing status's. Mainly to "Leanne loves Kelly" Or "Kelly has hot sex with Leanne"... and things like that :p.
My mate though, she got proper hacked the other day. Someone went on her thing, changed her relationship status to single.. wrote on her boyfriends wall saying "Sorry but it's over".. and her boyfriend rang her up and was like "Lli what the hell is going on?" And it took her ages to convince him it was a prank from someone.. they even changed her password then!
She doesn't know who it is, but has an idea.. cause her boyfriends uncle is really computery, and can trap all passwords used on his computer, and he hates Lli and her bf being together.. and she used the comp when they were away, and she thinks he might have got her password and did it.. well bad.
Facebook has responded to criticism over the way it handles user data by handing over control to its users.
Members of the social network will have comment and voting rights over the firm's future policies regarding how the site is governed.
Founder Mark Zuckerberg said the aim was to "open up Facebook so that users can participate meaningfully in our policies and our future".
Privacy International's Simon Davies said the move was "unprecedented".
"No other company has made such a bold move towards transparency and democratisation," he said.
"The devil will be in the detail but, overall, we applaud these positive steps and think they foreshadow the future of web 2.0."
Mr Zuckerberg admitted that the recent changes to the website's terms and conditions had sparked a "firestorm". Some people might be wondering what the fuss is exactly about? After all, nobody ever reads the terms and conditions or terms of service documents on a website."
Users had complained that it appeared Facebook was claiming ownership of their data - even if they delete their accounts.
The founder said: "We do not own user data, they [users] own it. We never intended to give that impression and feel really bad that we did."
Facebook has announced a new set of governing principles and rights and responsibilities.
Under the changes, users will be able to first comment and then potentially vote on future changes to the documents.
Facebook will enact a vote on changes to its governance when more than 7,000 comments have been made by users on a topic.
Mr Zuckerberg told BBC News: "We think that is pretty reasonable.
"We have designed the votes so a small minority of users cannot create a binding election."
Facebook is the largest social network in the world, with more than 175 million users. The controversy over Facebook's use of personal data is not the first time it has had a run in with users.
It angered some members in the past when it introduced a new advertising system, called Beacon, which delivered adverts to users on external websites based on their Facebook profile and habits. Beacon was quickly changed in order to give users an opt-in or opt-out button from the service.
The Facebook charter states:
Users own their data and can remove it when they want
Facebook should publicly make available information about its purpose, plans, policies, and operations
Facebook should have a town hall process of notice and comment and a system of voting to encourage input and discourse on amendments to these Principles or to the Rights and Responsibilities
Included in the new Facebook principles are specific details regarding the ownership of data.
It states: "People should own their information. They should have the freedom to share it with anyone they want and take it with them anywhere they want, including removing it from the Facebook Service."
Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook had undertaken to carry out all of its business within the framework of the new governance documents.
"We trust our users. We are making this so that we can't put in place a new terms of service without users' permission."
He said he hoped the new policy would "strengthen the community and the bonds between us and the users".
He told BBC News that he believed that opening up decisions about the future policies of the social network was not incompatible with doing business.
He said: "The important thing to keep in mind is that we are strengthening the trust people have in us.
"We believe that good dialogue we will get us to the right place... where everyone is more involved and happy."
i log out if i use a computer at uni, at home i never bother logging out
I do the same :p
Ok, new layout. Thoughts?
I HATE it. Much preferred the previous layout. I can't tell the difference between my status and people's wall comments on my profile. I don't like the 'highlights' bit. It's all too cluttered for my liking :thumbsdow
Why can't Facebook just leave it alone?

Its even worse than the 2nd version and I hardly use it now.
It original design was fine there was no need to change it.
I got used to the second one. I liked that I could change my news feed from everything to general, photos etc. Now it's all clumped together and looks terrible.

they have a petition going ,, so far they have 50 thousand signatures demanding them to change the layout to back where it was originally, lets see if the petition holds water...........:hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :searchme:
Are you on Facebook Jodi? What do you think to the change?
I really wish Facebook would consult the end user (i.e. us) before making dramatic changes. The site is for us, we should have a say in how it looks and if anything needs tweaking.

Abi,, yes I am on FACEBOOK,, I wish they would have left it alone, and I am with all of you, I am not happy with every thing clumped together,, I have to wade thru all the garbage that has nothing to do with me ya know,, and comments made on something some one else sent me,,by people I do not even know,, gee whiz,, yes I agree they should have asked US first, however, some one pointed out to me that why should they ( the owners) ask the end users what we think or want , we do not pay for it.. they do, I am like whatever

I don't think they notice the dozens of groups protesting against the changes!
Facebook just doesn't care anymore its got so corporate and huge that they think they can do whatever they want. When the next craze comes along people are going to jump ship!
I hate it
Thats all I have to say

I'm a fan too Luna :D. It's not bad :D. One reason - I love being nosey seeing what my friends have written on other people's profiles... saves a lot of my time - as I used to have a sneak look anyway, but took ages to look :p.

i dont know how to even look at my pictures on my profile its complicated
theyre still at the side arent they?
well yeah the option of photos is at the side but when i click on it, i get 3 options
1, upload a photo
2, take a photo
3, create an album
so unless all my pics have been erased i dont know where they are
You can either go to Profile > photos tab or use the quick links at the bottom on the screen on the left.
Im still getting used to it but Ive found Ive spent less time on it lately

We've set up an official facebook group for soapboards.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=65922936291#/group.php?gid=65922936291
If all of you who are on facebook could join this group, and pass it on to other soapboards members you have added on facebook we would appreciate it.
Why do it?
1) We can post site anouncements, news, info on there.
2) It's a great way to network with other members of soapboards.
3) It's an easier way for us to message all of our members about important things regarding the site.
So, hope to see you all there soon!
Mmwhhhhhhahahahha
You poke me and I poke you back! :p

Is there any way to store and retrieve chat histories?
I did something the other night and want to know exactly what I said. The history in the message box only goes back half way through the conversation (it was a long conversation).

FACEBOOK has agreed to let third party advertisers use your posted pictures WITHOUT your permission. Click on SETTINGS up at the top where you see the Log out link. Select Privacy. Then select NEWSFEEDS and WALL. Next select the tab that reads FACEBOOK ADS. There is a drop down box, select NO ONE. Then SAVE your changes. (REPOST to let your friends know!)
Don't know if it's true but I have it set on No one just to be on the safe side :)

Is this a spam circulated message or something genuine?

In the past couple of days, a rumor has begun spreading that claims we have changed our policies for third-party advertisers and the use of your photos. These rumors are false, and we have made no such change in our advertising policies.
If you see a Wall post or receive a message with the following language or something similar, it is this false rumor:
FACEBOOK has agreed to let third party advertisers use your posted pictures WITHOUT your permission.
