View Full Version : Darren Miller
Don't tell me that was EastEnders' way of writing Darren out for good the other week?! When Keith told Libby Darren is "staying at his mother's"... is he coming back?

Ive not heard anything about him going/coming back or anything! Isnt it about time they did something with libby, dressed her up or something
I like the fact she is different.

in real life she is very pretty and not a bit like libby
Why should they dress her up? She is an individual and has her own style.

That was such a pointless way of getting rid of Darren. Whatever happened to the dramatic exits?!

From what i read in this weeks soap mag I hear hes coming back, and Libby gets the wrong impression over a new dog hes got!
She must think it's some common girl he's met up there, and that that was why he didn't want to come back.
If that was actually the last we were going to see of him, it would be worse than the traditional black cab exit.
And I don't think they should do anything with Libby, as her attire is symbolic of her being hard working and clever, with the glasses and not wearing any makeup; something used on her sister to symbolise her interest in the opposite sex.
EastEnders star Kylie Babbington has said that Jodie and Darren's forthcoming engagement will only be the start of "exciting" times ahead for the couple.
This week's episodes of the BBC soap see Jodie and Darren (Charlie G. Hawkins) split up following an argument, but their short time apart only makes them stronger and Darren ends up popping the question.
As Jodie accepts the proposal, she's visibly thrilled by the idea of tying the knot - but what her mum Vanessa (Zöe Lucker) will make of the development is currently unclear.
Speaking to PA about Jodie and Darren, Babbington commented: "They are getting engaged, but more than that - everyone needs to stay tuned and see what happens. There's exciting stuff."
The actress also said that she has been pleased to see her character find love with Darren, describing the pair as a "really good match".
She continued: "They're from different walks of life and seeing them together is a nice contrast. I think they make a nice couple, definitely."
EastEnders' Darren Miller will face an agonising decision when he is forced to choose between his son and his fiancee.
The teenage wheeler dealer - who sent shockwaves through Albert Square when he admitted to fathering Heather Trott's (Cheryl Fergison) baby son George - will be horrified to discover his gorgeous girlfriend Jodie Gold (Kylie Babbington) has accidentally burned the tot with her curling irons.
Charlie G Hawkins - who plays Darren in the BBC One soap - explained: "Darren's devastated about George's burns. He blames himself for having to leave his little boy with Jodie while he goes out to work. It makes him wonder whether George would actually be better off with his mum, Heather.
"Darren understands that he needs Heather's help if he's to take care of George properly. He realises that he can't manage on his own. He and Heather come up with a deal where she has George during the day, and Darren looks after him in the evenings. That way, everyone seems to be a winner."
However, with Jodie realising she and Darren want very different things from life, she makes the decision for the heartbroken teen and calls time on their romance.
Charlie added to Inside Soap magazine: "When Jodie dumps him, Darren doesn't argue. Deep down, he knows the situation must be really hard for her. They obviously want very different things, but Darren didn't expect them to split up quite so soon.
"At the end of the day, though, he's going to put his son first, so he knows it's the right thing for him and Jodie to end their relationship."

CHARLIE G Hawkins has vowed to outlive Ian Beale as the London soap’s longest-running character.
Charlie G Hawkins has starred in the BBC1 show since 2004 and has his eye on eclipsing Maserati-owning Adam Woodyatt, 42, who has played Ian Beale since the show began back in 1985.
Charlie, who plays car salesman Darren Miller, admitted: “I’ve been on EastEnders for eight years already and I’m only 20.
“You could say I have got my eyes on the Maserati.”
Good luck to him :D

The character has gotten very boring. I think making him George's daddy was a bad move by the writers.
EastEnders bids farewell to Darren Miller next week as he departs Walford for a fresh start.
Plagued with guilt after stealing from the car lot and sleeping with Lauren, Darren makes the surprising decision to call off his wedding to Jodie - deciding that she deserves better as he hates the man he's become.
Darren's exit comes as Charlie G Hawkins recently decided to bow out from the role after seven years. Here, Charlie chats to Digital Spy about Darren's final episodes and more.
We've just seen Darren cheat on Jodie with Lauren. Why has he made such a bad decision?
"He's a doughnut! I think the main thing is that Darren stupidly thinks Jodie is doing the same thing with Anthony, so he's feeling down, he's suspicious and he was also drunk at the time. But what we'll see is that he's got massive regrets and it'll have massive consequences."
That all begins when Poppy finds out, doesn't it?
"Definitely. As everyone knows, Poppy's loyalties lie with Jodie - they're super best friends! Poppy wants Darren to own up straight away, because she feels that if he doesn't, she'll be lying to Jodie as well. Poppy doesn't want to see Jodie in pain, but she can't keep the secret."
When Poppy tells Jodie, she hears that Jodie already knows as she saw Darren and Lauren at the car lot together earlier that day. Why is Jodie carrying on as normal?
"I think Jodie is very keen for Darren to tell her himself and own up. Jodie knew all along, but she's giving Darren that chance. She still wants to be with Darren and she wants to save their relationship, but that doesn't happen…"
How difficult is it for Darren to end their relationship and leave the Square?
"It's a very difficult decision for Darren to make. The reason for it is that Darren's realised what a good girl Jodie is, so he knows that she deserves better. Darren knows that Jodie deserves someone who would never cheat on her. When he finds out that she already knew anyway, that just shows what a better person she is, because she's so willing to forgive. But Darren can't live with what he's done."
On a happier note, how did you feel when you heard that Joe Swash would be back for your final episodes?
"I was delighted to have Joe back. When I first heard that they wanted to bring Joe back for my last couple of episodes, I was chuffed! I look up to Joe and he's a great person to have on set - he's great company. I started with Joe and I finished with Joe, so that was quite a nice touch. Also, it was down to Joe's success that EastEnders decided to build a family around him, so I owe a lot to him and I'm thankful to Joe for that."
We see some nice scenes between Darren and Heather before he leaves, don't we?
"Yes, there's a couple of scenes between them. They're not massive scenes, but they're quite sweet and touching. Darren says that he wants the best for Heather and George, and he thanks her for everything. He explains that George is his number one priority, but he knows that he's in the safest hands with Heather. Darren knows that Heather will care for George and look after him."
Are there any other emotional goodbye scenes?
"There's quite a nice goodbye with Darren and Tamwar. That's quite sweet and nice. Tamwar is the only one who Darren really confides in before he leaves."
After so long at EastEnders, why did you decide to leave the show?
"It's a good question! I just wanted to have some new experiences, take on some fresh challenges and see what else is out there. It was a tremendously hard decision to make, because I love EastEnders and the people here are absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed coming to work every day and I loved being part of this team, so it was a hard decision to make but the support that I got was brilliant."
Did you feel emotional on your last day?
"Yes, it was quite emotional. I was quite sad to say goodbye to everyone, but it was more a case of saying goodbye to working with them, because I'm still going to see them all. And who knows, hopefully I'll work with them again at some point. I was more sad to say goodbye to the Square and do my last scenes on it, because I've been on that Square for so long - since I was 12!"
Did you have a leaving party with the cast and crew?
"Well, they said a few words after I filmed my last scene on set - everyone was there. After that we went to the bar, so I didn't have a party as such but we did something at work and it was quite nice because everyone turned up. It was really good - they sent me off well!"
Is there anyone in particular from the cast who you're hoping to stay in touch with?
"I'm hoping to stay in touch with quite a few of them - and I do. I've been gone for a few weeks now, but I still speak to them all the time. From the people who have left before, I still speak to Joe Swash, Kara Tointon and Neil McDermott, while from the current cast, I've been speaking to people like Himesh Patel and Jacqueline Jossa. It's really nice."
What's next for you - are you hoping to do some auditioning or are you having a break?
"A bit of both! I'm looking forward to seeing what comes up, so we'll see what happens. It's quite nice to stroll along at the minute and enjoy a bit of free time."
Would you consider a return to EastEnders one day?
"Who knows? Never say never. All I can say is that I love the show tremendously, but it's always getting bigger and better and evolving. There might not be space for Darren, but we'll see!"
Did you enjoy working with Kylie Babbington, who plays Jodie, over the past year?
"Definitely. I've been incredibly lucky in that sense, because I've genuinely loved everyone that I've worked with. Kylie was brilliant, and so was Himesh who plays Tamwar. We all came into EastEnders to work but we also had a laugh, so it almost didn't feel like work."
Do you think Jodie will find a new boyfriend now?
"I don't know - I'm a viewer now as I'm not there anymore! That's the worst thing - I'm not in the know! Now I'll have to watch to see what happens, so I'm excited and interested to see what the future holds."
Darren has been quite a responsible father, so do you hope it's mentioned in future episodes that he's seeing George off screen?
"Yeah, I'd like to think that every now and again they could mention that Darren has taken George out off screen, or that he's phoned up to see how he's been. That would be nice, so hopefully they will. We'll soon find out! It was really nice to play Darren as a father - we saw a different side to him."
Darren stuck around for a long time, even after his family had left the Square. What was the secret behind his staying power on the show?
"I think everyone can relate to Darren - you always know someone who's down on their luck, or a bit of a cheeky chap. He was someone who you could go for a drink with, so it's quite nice to have characters like that around I suppose."
As Jake Wood (Max) took a break from the show, you must have filmed your final scene with him weeks before you actually left…
"Yeah, that's right - and I was gutted about that! I really, really look up to Jake - I think that he's a fantastic actor and a wicked person. He's a real family guy and a true professional. In the past two years, I've learned so much from Jake - not just about acting but as a person, too. Hopefully I can take that with me and use it in later life. It was really sad to say goodbye to Jake. We had a few scenes together before Jake took his break, but they obviously weren't goodbye scenes because Darren wasn't leaving at that point. Me and Jake had a goodbye - it's just a shame that Darren and Max didn't have a goodbye!"
Are there any particular highlights that you can name from your time at EastEnders?
"I've had too many! The things I've been able to do and the things the show have given me have been incredible, along with the people who I've been able to meet and work with. All of it has been one big highlight."
How would you like viewers to remember Darren?
"Hopefully just as someone who they enjoyed watching and got a few laughs from - whether it was at him or with him! It'd be nice to think that he put smiles on a few faces."
Charlie G Hawkins has expressed his gratitude towards former EastEnders co-star Jake Wood, admitting that he "learned so much" from the actor.
Hawkins worked closely with Wood on the BBC soap, but his EastEnders journey comes to an end tonight as viewers see him bow out from his role as Darren Miller.
Speaking to Digital Spy ahead of his final scenes airing, Hawkins explained: "I really, really look up to Jake - I think that he's a fantastic actor and a wicked person. He's a real family guy and a true professional.
"In the past two years, I've learned so much from Jake - not just about acting but as a person, too. Hopefully I can take that with me and use it in later life."
As Wood's character Max Branning recently took time out from Albert Square after being rejected by ex-wife Tanya, the cheating businessman is absent from Walford for Darren's farewell.
Hawkins continued: "It was really sad to say goodbye to Jake. We had a few scenes together before Jake took his break, but they obviously weren't goodbye scenes because Darren wasn't leaving at that point. Me and Jake had a goodbye - it's just a shame that Darren and Max didn't have a goodbye!"
Hawkins announced his decision to leave EastEnders in April.
Was it his decision to leave or was he fired?
He sounds like he really wants to come back being so nice in interviews about the show

He apparently wanted to leave to experience life like a normal 20-year-old as he was not able to do so before
He played Albert Square's Darren Miller for seven years, and former EastEnders star Charlie G Hawkins thinks there is scope for his character to return.
Darren struck up a bond with his boss Max Branning prior to his Walford exit and Hawkins thinks the pair could return together.
Hawkins told Inside Soap: "Fans who see me usually say, 'When are you going back? Max needs you!' I know Jake has a year off, so maybe we could roll back in together."
"I suppose there's scope for anyone to return so you never know but, either way, I loved playing Darren.
"I adore the show and I still watch it at home all the time - I'm probably an even bigger fan of the show now and I can't speak highly enough of it."
Max was last seen on screen in September when he was wrongly arrested for murdering Lucy Beale. His exit followed Jake Wood's decision to take a year-long break from the show.
he could visit shirley with george
