Really i mean come on the Ashley/Claire/Casey storyline is not only boring but also unbelievable.
Steve Frost and his team need to get some better storylines two years ago Corrie was the best soap and it deserved all the awards it got. But now its getting a little slow and boring almost stale.

I have to admit there is some good parts such as Demon David and Sarah and Jasons impending wedding. But what else does the soap have to offer.
We could argue that its becuase most of the BIG charecters have left such as Charlie Stubbs,Tracey Barlow,Danny and Frankie Baldwin,Mike Baldwin and Fred Elliot.

What does Corrie need to do to get back on top of its game???

two years ago Corrie was the best soap and it deserved all the awards it got.er i don't know about that, Summer 2005 was hardly Corrie at its best imo :o

The main problem at the moment lies with this Ashley/Claire storyline. I don't know whats going on here but it seems to be just going nowhere? :searchme: I don't find it entertaining in the slightest and Claire is by far the most annoying character on the street at the moment.

Corrie isn't up to its usual standard at the moment. It isn't fantastic but it is certainly still watchable in my opinion. This whole Clare/Ashley/Casey storyline is going round in circles at the moment and i think the main problem why Corrie is so boring at the moment is because the producers changed the storyline because of Maddie's dissapearance. I think they originally planned this storyline to take centre stage throughout the summer with small filler plots running beside it, but the original plot got scrapped causing producers to make quick changes which ultimately affects the storyline as a whole.

The change caused unbelievable character changes such as Casey being the prime suspect, then suddenly becoming best buddies with Claire and Ashley. Also a character change in Ashley cheating on Claire with Casey - i mean, is Ashley really the cheating type? If you look back when Maxine had her affair with Matt Ramsden, he was devastated and from that storyline, you would find it unbelievable that Ashley would ever cheat on his other half! The storyline is going round in circles with Claire going to her mums, Casey moving in on Ashley and feeding the same script - "have i come at a bad time?" and "I can go if you want to be on your own"...it's just going round in circles, with unrealistic character changes...and this is the reason why i think this storyline is ultimately stale and boring in my opinion.

Other storylines aren't so bad though - the Sean/Violet stuff is bearable enough, though i can't take Antony Cotton as a serious actor so Jenny Platt usually carries the scenes with her and Antony in my opinion. Eileen stuff is really funny and everything else is ok. It's nice to see Leanne running her own business. The only thing bringing Corrie down in my opinion at the moment is the Ashley/Claire/Casey storyline and that's at centre stage at the moment, meaning the show is being seen as boring. This is what i think anyway.

Corrie looks promising in the coming months with the David stuff and Bethany taking the E tablet and Hayley's son storyline - a brilliant opportunity for character development so i think with these storylines just round the corner, Corrie will definetly pick up.

One observation i've made is that Corrie seems to usually slow down a bit over the summer months (it happened in summer 2005 as well) and i think they just give up over the summer months as actors will be away etc as well as viewers that watch the show - i'm not saying that as a fact, just an observation that i made.

Its not brilliant, but its not bad. I think its just been really good in the past, especially when Kate Ford was in it. Now its just gone back to a normal pace for a British soap, so it doesn't compare very well. Spoilt in the past, i guess.

both me my mum and my nan were saying friday how the ashley/clare/cassie storyline is dragging on a bit, then last night watching corrie my brohter who doesnt normally watch corrie said it was boring last night and i have to agree as much as i watch it still i cant help think that the clare storyline is rather boring at the moment but is redeemed with the comedy of eileen and steves storyline. hopefully the coming storylines will bring it back.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there with the Ashley/Claire/CAsey storyline. It was hastily rewritten and it shows. Still as you say there is plenty going on to keep viewers watching and with the other stories in the pipeline it will pick up again.

After all it still pulled in 50% on the viewers last week

I keep an eye on the irish viewing figures.. EE and Corrie are shown on 2 different channels... It was a case months ago that corrie would pull over 3000 more viewers on 3 of the shows compare to EE show.. now it is pretty similar.. EE is catching up in Ireland on corrie.. It is either a) corrie has gone downhill in previous weeks or b) EE is just getting better and pulling back more viewers...

I wouldn't say that... I mean EE had its slump too so you can't expect a soap to maintain high quality all the time.. It will come back to the way it was and again we can have the soap rival like in the good ole days

And why do you think that? Could you expand on what you said?

I'm afraid i disagree. Like Siobhan said, every soap can't maintain a high quality all of the time - every soap has its ups and downs...and Corrie is on a downer at the moment but that's only because of the Ashley/Claire/Casey storyline in my opinion.

I agree, I can't stand it at the moment with the Ashley/Claire/Cassey storyline. To me Ashley seems like the person who wouldn't cheat so it just seems so silly that he is. What I don't understand is why Claire went running back to Cassey so quickly after thinking she had tried to kill her. The fact that Cassey didn't seem that bothered by it should have caused alarm bells in Claire's head. If my friend accused me of tryin 2 kill her I'd have a bit more to say than Cassey did when Claire came running out to her at the party. It all makes me not wanted to watch it anymore or just tape it so i can fast forward through their bits. The bosses need to sort it out and fast or they'll loose more viewers

All soaps go through bad patches, but I like to stick with them. I'm hooked! :) I do think we could do with a bit more fun in Corrie right now though.

We need a bit more of the good old Jack and Vera banter - Vera with her new chair last night was great !
