Sorry to disappoint

From DS

Emmerdale veteran Clive Hornby is NOT quitting the soap, I can confirm.

Despite various rumours over the past few weeks, one tabloid finally caught onto the grapevine today and ran a piece claiming that Jack Sugden is being written out of the Yorkshire soap.

However, a spokesperson for the show confirmed: "There is an explosive episode planned for the 35th anniversary in October which involves a fire ripping through the village, but we are not killing Jack Sugden off."

So there we have it. That's one character down from the list of possible characters who could meet a fiery end during the 35th celebrations.

The 35th anniversary episode will transmit on Tuesday, October 16 in what is presumed to be an hour special.

He is the Ken Barlow of Emmerdale

Sort of. He was in the first episode but was in and out of it for the first few years. He then vanished for a few years and was only brought back in 1980 when Clive Hornby took over the role which was now full time. Technically then he isn't an original but is a name associated from the beginning of the show. When Annie Sugden left in the mid 90s that was the last original character gone (without breaks). Before Seth died (in real life and on screen) he was the longest serving actor and the last remaining actor from the 70s. Only Jack, Alan and Eric remain from the Farm days.

It would be good if they could still get Annie back (his mum) and Annie's hubby Amos who ran the Woolpack for many years with Henry Wilks. However they're both nearly 90 so that would be tough.

When I first read about this rumour. I thought it would be used to begin and affair between Diane and Billy as that it bound to happen soon.

Well he normally rises when he gets a big storyline. He's only just turned 60 IRL so he's still quite young. Not sure marrying Diane was a good idea as I prefer them as seperate characters. I'm sure when Victoria finds the truth out about her mum, Jack will have plenty to do.
