Nesbitt to be new Who?

From the moment David Tennant slipped into the black leather jacket vacated by Christopher Eccleston, speculation has been rife as to when the handsome Scottish star will step down as the Doctor.

He's always maintained a dignified silence, but when names start to be bandied about in the Press, there's usually something afoot.

Jekyll actor James Nesbitt is rumoured to be the next in line to fly the Tardis. He's good friends with Steven Moffat, who wrote Jekyll, and who is widely tipped to replace Russell T Davies, who steps down next year.

That's a lot of rumour, but according to an insider: "Moffat has worked with James on Jekyll and the talk in BBC Drama is that he's a shoo-in as the next Doctor. First a Scottish Doctor - now we could have a Northern Irish one."

Never mind his nationality - will he be able to defend us from the likes of the Ood, Slitheen and - of course - the Daleks?

I think James is too old to play the Doctor sorry. Although James is a talented actor I don't think he is write for the role.

Stephen Moffet started a thread on Outpost Gallifrey about this, and said;

"The James Nesbitt story is a total fabrication. Made up. A fantasy. Just a guy sitting at a desk and just inventing stuff.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I'm getting embarrassed for the deeply wonderful Jimmy Nesbitt. So tell everyone please, cos it's getting very silly.

James is a great actor but he just does not have "it" for the Doctor...
Hes not too old cos Tom Baker was older than James Nesbit.. and the first doctor was even older,, I do not think its the age factor,, its the chemistry to play THE DOCTOR...
James would be a nice scary monster tho :D

I agree with a lot that you say Jodi about James being a better Dr Who Baddie than the Dr himself and previous Dr being older than James himself, but today's Dr Who fans are different to those 20 or 30 years ago when Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker were cast in the role. They want to watch a more younger,cheekier actor in the role rather than an estabished actor and that is why David Tennent fits to role so well. I admit I was a bit apprensive when he took over from Christopher Ecclestone as I think he would have been a brilliant Dr if he has stayed in the role more than 1 series, but I have to say David has won me over with his charm and humor. I can only say that I hope he stays on for a few more series, but if he does decide to move on it will need a big character to fill his boots.
