WATCH out, trouble is back – Corrie’s bad lad Jim McDonald is returning to the cobbles.

Actor Charlie Lawson, who plays the fiery Irishman, is about to sign a six-week contract to start filming in October and viewers will see him on screen in the run-up to Christmas.

His return is sure to cause fireworks, particularly as Liz — his beloved ex-wife twice over — is dating again.

Her engagement to drummer Vernon has just ended after a fling with married brewery man Derek. Last night a Street source said: “Liz has had a chequered love life since divorcing Jim a second time.

“So whether she’ll be pleased to see him again remains to be seen. We’re guessing not — though with those two, anything can happen.”

Jim — who peppers his conversation with the phrase “So it is” — first appeared in the Street in 1989 and quickly gained a reputation as a Weatherfield bad guy.

After various marital break-ups, violent outbursts and brushes with the police, he found himself in jail for killing drug-dealing thug Jez Quigley.

Jim was last seen on screen in 2003, when he broke out of prison fearing that mini-skirted missus Liz — played by Beverley Callard — was having an affair with her boss at a Blackpool pub.

The pair tried to flee to Ireland, but stopped to rescue Ashley and Claire, who were adrift in a boat.

Will he have left prison at his correct time then or will he have broken out again? I can't remember how long he had to serve...:hmm: *scratches head trying to think*

Anyway I think this is a good idea as it will probably stop Liz from being so pointless like she is nowadays.

From Wikipedia

In September 2000, Steve was badly beaten by local villain Jez Quigley. Jim gained revenge by beating Jez in his own home, and Jez later dropped dead in hospital from a ruptured spleen. Jim gave himself up to the police and was sent to prison to await trial. He re-married Liz during his remand period, and was later sentenced to eight years in prison. In 2003, three years into his sentence and a year before his scheduled release on licence, Jim broke out of prison after fearing that Liz was having an affair with her manager at a pub in Blackpool. They tried to flee to Ireland, but stopped to rescue Ashley and Claire who were adrift in a boat.

Jim was soon recaptured and returned to prison. Shortly after his return, Jim battered another cellmate. His parole licence was cancelled as a result and he was ordered to remain in prison until the end of his sentence in September 2008.

Jim McDonald’s Due Out of Prison – Will He Return to Corrie?
Charlie Lawson who played big Jim McDonald says that Jim’s time is up in the big house and he’s due for release any day now. But will his character ever return to Coronation Street? Charlie tells Sunday Life: "Jim McDonald has done his time for manslaughter and will walk free this year. I'll be the last to be told if I'm being invited back into the soap to play the freed McDonald again. All I can say is it would be a shame to split up Liz (played by Beverley Callard) and Jim. So I would be happy to return”.
This Corrie fan hopes that he does return as it would cause a few problems for Liz and Steve in the Rovers Return. Mind you, I’d like to see Jim give the heave-ho to feckless drummer Vernon (played by Ian Reddington) who’ll be returning to Corrie soon.

If he's been a good boy, he'll be out when parole comes round, which is around now.

Good to have him back but I don't think he'd work as a permanent character again. Liz has moved on since the days when Jim smacked her across the chops.

It will be good to see Jim back on the street. I can just see him behind the bar.

Liz will have trouble recognising him if he keeps his Irish voice down. Charles Lawson has dropped the trademark moustache.
