Was just wondering, are there any members on here effected in any way by the floods at present? Been watching it on the news, reading it in the papers, and I just can't help feel for all those people, most of which have lost homes or the stuff in them, which I know I'd be really upset about. Has there been any fatalitys btw?
There's been nothing down here apart from large puddles on Friday.
This is so awfull. Hopefully the Red Cross will be able to distribute water to everyone that needs it. For the time being, i think thats the best they can hope for, its that bad.
More rain is expected this week as well.
Hull got majorly flooded when the first floods came. My dad works in Hull and all the roads in and out were closed. It's caused millions of pounds worth of damage and its only just getting back on its feet.
My sister works with a woman who lives in Sheffield. Her house got flooded abd her insurance had lapsed. It took her 11 hours to make a journey that normally takes an hour.
The other end of town got flooded quite badly. They always seem to get flooded though.

at least the water supply is returning to lots of peoples homes now but they have got such a long way to go to clean up and dry out their houses. nightmare!
Best wishes to all who have been affected. There is nothing worse than waiting months with the carpets and floorboards up for the house to dry out before you can redecorate etc.
I got flooded two weeks ago now, some bright person opened up the sleuth gates which flooded the pang, which is a road away from me,no warning what so ever, happened 1am on friday night,it was up and over our knees in the house,no offer of sandbags or anything from the council.Neighbours rallied together and made our own because apparently the ones they had,had been reserved as we wernt a 'risk' ha ha.The more expensive roads were more important even though the waer never went any where near those houses.
We were evacusted by boat the next morning, myself and the children but hubby wouldnt leave the house as looters were about.
We were lucky in we worked our butts off and thought fast as the water was pouring in and got tv's,appliances like washing machine, dishwasher etc up high.Other people arent so lucky and are being told by insurance companys to move out and it wil be 6+ months before the work will be done or any money paid out.
We have been lucky also as we have done all our work and are just going to put bills in for it but obviously other people dont have the money to do this. There are children homeless, elderly and these money grabbing house insurance companys couldnt care less.We were all treated like rubbish in my road as it was happening,as i said i feel sorry for people not so fortunate, the only good thing to come out of it is the solidarity shown between neighbours.
We lost floors, our kitchen units, and doors as they wouldnt close. But what cant be replaced is photos and birth certificates (originals) and yet no one gives two rats!
Also forgot to say that it was neighbours who were doing the evacuating also in there own canoes/boats etc..
