PCs Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) and Dan Casper (Chris Jarvis) begin their day by arresting Lucy Thomas (Candis Nergaard) who has an outstanding warrant for theft. As she waits to be charged in custody, chaos ensues when a drunk man aggressively picks up a cricket bat and grabs Lucy who immediately collapses. Sergeant Smithy (Alex Walkinshaw) is stunned to see another man seize the drunk and pin him to the floor. His shock turns to embarrassment when he discovers the hero is Sun Hills latest recruit – Sergeant Callum Stone (Sam Callis).

Throwing himself into his first day, Stone sets about investigating how Lucy gained a head injury the night before which led to her collapse. He discovers that she was serving drinks at a party being held by respected ex Detective Inspector, Martin Donnelly (Michael Angelis). When questioned, Martin admits to Stone and Dan that Lucy had got drunk and banged her head on the balcony. He confesses that there were drugs at the party and because Lucy has a child in care, he got his friend, a retired doctor to do the stitches, as a favour to her. Stone reviews new evidence and the possibility that Lucy may have been hit with an iron poker which Stone noticed missing from Martin’s fireplace.

Later, Dan grows suspicious of Stone’s motives when he witnesses Stone putting the poker in his rucksack which was earlier recovered by PCs Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) at a waste ground. Dan witnesses Stone putting the rucksack into his car and Stone warns him not to say anything. Dan, sure that something very dodgy is going on talks to Smithy who is furious. Quickly gathering back up, Smithy goes on the hunt for Stone – has Sun Hill hired a corrupt cop?

Elsewhere, an elderly woman, Norma Johnson (June Bailey) is interviewed by DI Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) and Trainee DC Kezia Walker (Cat Simmons) when she claims she has been receiving threatening phone calls. DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) tells Kezia and Samantha that he has found three similar allegations – all made by elderly women living alone in the same area. While talking to Norma in her home, Kezia realises that the threats began after she had a new kitchen installed. Kezia and Samantha visit the kitchen company to make their enquiries and are dismayed to see hundreds of employees to get through.

After gathering a list of all the employees and their details from the supervisor Kelvin Frost (Philip Brodie), he goes to show them out. Whilst waiting for the lift, Kezia gets a gets a call from Terry who tells her Kelvin is linked to all four cases. In the lift, Kezia attempts to make her arrest and accidentally pushes Kelvin against the emergency stop button. The officers find themselves trapped with a very irate suspect…

PCs Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart) and Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) are called to a church which has been vandalised by Ed Abraham (Ben Keaton). After arresting Ed and going back to Sun Hill, Will tells DC Terry Perkins (Bruce Byron) that Ed blames God for the fact his son James was born with a terminal illness and has now committed suicide. Will explains that Ed’s wife Sarah (Jenny Bolt) and daughter Hannah (Charlotte Keel) still don’t know that James is dead, so Terry takes Ed’s house keys and makes his way to his home.

Terry’s suspicions are aroused when he finds Sarah by James side, having cleaned the body. He then discovers an empty sleeping pill packet and wonders why nobody called an ambulance. When questioned, Ed confesses that James got the pills from a doctor and as he couldn’t take them himself, Ed helped him.

Terry later talks to Sarah who admits that she agreed Ed could aid James’ suicide, but says the pills were bought over the internet. The confusion continues when the post-mortem report comes through and shows that James was killed by asphyxiation and Terry is fuming that Ed and Sarah lied to him. When Will informs Terry that Ed had called for an ambulance but another call was later made by Sarah to cancel it, Terry is determined to work out exactly what happened during James’ dying moments…

Meanwhile, PCs Beth Green (Louisa Lytton)*****KIDDIECOP ALERT****** and Roger Valentine (John Bowler) attend a call out from a pet shop where they are surprised to find the owner, Dennis Myers (Roger Ringrose), tied to a chair with three dogs licking dog food off him.

Elsewhere in the market, cheeky kid Tre Douglas (Merveille Lukeba) attempts to sell a dog called Harry to Sergeant Callum Stone (Sam Callis) while Roger radios Stone about the pet shop incident. Stone interviews Dennis who says he didn’t see who assaulted him and that nothing has been stolen. He explains that he has a licence to breed dogs but Stone is convinced he’s hiding something.

CCTV footage shows Stone with a gang of kids outside the shop, including Tre with Harry the dog. Turning up at Tre’s house, Stone is disheartened to see the only responsible adult is Tre’s junkie father, AJ (Johann Myers). Tre admits he assaulted Dennis because he believes he’s dodgy – he shows Stone a photo on his mobile of Dennis burying something. Later, rummaging in the wasteland where Tre took the picture, Beth is upset when she makes a gruesome discovery – a dead dog. Stone later discovers that although the pet shop is doing badly, Dennis can still afford a sports car and regular trips to Poland and wonders if Dennis is breeding the dogs to sell them illegally.

Later, Stone and PC Tony Stamp (Graham Cole) are called to a disturbance at Tre’s house where the case takes a terrifying turn. They discover AJ has been beaten up by drug dealers who believe he has sent Tre out to steal £10,000 worth of heroin from them. Elsewhere, Beth *****KIDDIECOP ALERT****** and Roger help Tre as a group of thugs attempt to bundle him into a car. It later transpires that Tre wasn’t their target...but what would they want with Harry the dog?
