Former Footballers' Wives actor Ben Richards has joined the cast of The Bill.

The 35-year-old - most noted for his role as psychotic Bruno Milligan in the now-axed ITV football drama and ITV2 spin-off show Extra Time - is to play ladies' man PC Nate Roberts.

Ben's character joined the force six years ago to drive fast cars and chase criminals. It’s a job that offers him an exciting challenge every day of his life, mates to go drinking with and a shift pattern that gifts him a four-day weekend."

And Nate knows how to treat a woman but he also knows how to break hearts and rarely gets his own broken.

Of his new role, he said: "The Bill has always had an extremely high standard of acting and storylines, and I'm really pleased to be joining such a great cast."

The news comes only days after Scott Maslen quit the cop drama for EastEnders.

Ben also filmed a short four-month stint as physiotherapist Justin Fuller in BBC One's Holby City.

His first appearance in Sun Hill will transmit at the beginning of November.

I like Ben Richards, i think he will be good in this. I always get confused between him and the one that played Conrad Ben someone else, but he is in casualty now so its not that confusing.

I suppose it will make up for Scott Leaving.
