DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) arrives at Sun Hill, surprised to see his team working on the Larry Franks (Rupert Holliday-Evans) case. DC Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) explains that last night Larry withdrew his confession to murdering Cindy Statham (Nathalie Cox) and convinced he is innocent, she has reopened the case. Jo believes Larry filmed Cindy’s death and there is a possibility he buried the tape by the canal – his ‘special place’.

The tape is soon uncovered and the troubled team watch grainy footage of Larry stroking the dying model’s hair. Adamant the tape is inconclusive, Neil angers Jo when he insists that he and DC Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) should re-interview Larry, who clams up when his request to talk to Jo is denied. Determined to examine all of the evidence again, Jo works into the night, studying a cleaned up version of Larry’s tape, which Crime Scene Photographer, Rachel Inns (Amanda Abbington) insists on watching with her. After telling Rachel to go home, Jo is excited to discover new evidence previously unseen on the tape. As she heads out of the station, Jo is unaware that the killer is much closer than she thinks and is about to strike again…

Elsewhere, DC Mickey Webb (Chris Simmons) briefs the uniformed officers about a burglary that has taken place at a jewellers – the assailant smashed the window with a sledge hammer before escaping on a scooter. The Intelligence suggests that the robber will strike again so Mickey warns the team to be prepared. PCs Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) and Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) soon respond to a call about another robbery and give chase in their patrol car. They are frustrated when the suspect escapes. Mickey gets a description of the bike and visits his good friend Jerry Harper (Dorian Lough), a Mod café owner, in the hope he may be able to help identify where the bike came from.

After discussing the case and catching up, Mickey is surprised to see Trainee DC Kezia Walker (Cat Simmons) turn up: she tells him that a PNC check has revealed the scooter belongs to Ruby (Francesca Salih) – Jerry’s daughter. A shocked Ruby insists she knows nothing but Jerry later confesses to the burglaries. Mickey is convinced that he’s lying and sets about trying to solve the case before his friend is sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit…

A terrified DC Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) wakes up to find herself bound and gagged. As she struggles to untie the ropes, her abductor, Crime Scene Photographer Rachel Inns (Amanda Abbington), walks in and secures Jo to a chair. Rachel admits that it was her who killed supermodel Cindy Statham (Nathalie Cox) – but insists it was an accident. While Jo tells her CID will be wondering where she is, Rachel frantically tapes up her mouth and leaving her at her house heads to Sun Hill to find out what they know.

At the station DS Stuart Turner (Doug Rao) tells DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) that he’s concerned about Jo’s absence. PCs Diane Noble (Kaye Wragg) and Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) are sent to Jo’s house where neighbours confirm they didn’t see her return home the night before. Knowing that Jo had worked late last night studying the tape Larry Franks (Rupert Holliday-Evans) had made, Stuart and DC Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) watch it for themselves. They quickly realise that Jo was onto something when they hear the distinctive ringing of a mobile phone and a shot of a handbag at the scene. As Larry or Cindy didn’t receive a call on the night of the murder, they must work quickly to discover who owns the mobile…

A frantic Rachel heads back to Jo, who persuades her to send a text to Stuart, saying that she is ill. When Stuart receives the text from Jo’s phone, he suspects something is up from the language used. Rachel heads back to the station and is alarmed that the officers now know there was a third person at Cindy’s house the night of the murder. While PCs Beth Green (Louisa Lytton) and Dan Casper (Chris Jarvis) check the bagged exhibits in the property store, Rachel tells them she needs to go into the back to photograph some evidence.

As Neil runs through all the facts with Grace and Stuart, he gets a call which leaves them stunned – the mobile phone belongs to Rachel, who has disappeared. During an urgent briefing, Sergeant Nikki Wright (Gillian Taylforth) interrupts with the news that Beth has discovered the evidence Rachel was examining has gone missing – a gun and some bullets. Can Sun Hill save one of their own before it’s too late…?
