View Full Version : Bill Star for Eastenders
From Todays Sun
TV cop Scott Maslen has been poached from The Bill by EastEnders.
Scott, who plays ladies’ man DS Phil Hunter, will arrive in Walford as Jack Branning, a romeo ex-copper.
He will bed a string of women — with sexy Ronnie Mitchell, played by Samantha Janus, soon in his sights. Ex-Royal Marine Scott, 36, is the first star to be poached by one soap from another.
He told pals he was fed up with moves to “sex up” ITV’s The Bill with gimmicky plots and guest stars.
Scott will start filming the BBC1 soap in August.
ITV sources say his decision to quit came as a “bombshell”. One said: “He handed in his notice this week and broke the news to colleagues. Nobody had a clue before that.
“It’s come as a bombshell to the producers because they see Scott as a pivotal character.
“He’s been on the show for five years and is getting fed up with the direction of the show.
“ITV has dictated changes, insisting on guests, basically trying to make it sexier. A lot of people are unhappy.”
Meanwhile, BBC sources were “overjoyed” and producers plan to make Jack a huge character on EastEnders. A BBC source said: “Jack is used to getting his own way. He also tries it on with most of the women he comes across.
“The Mitchell sisters, Ronnie and Roxy, catch his eye from an early stage. It’s a great part for Scott to get his teeth into.”
Scott said last night: “I’m really looking forward to playing Jack Branning. He is an extremely competitive man who always likes to win in business and in pleasure.”
Oh dear what a foolish move by Scott. He should look at what happened to two other great actors who left Sun Hill for Albert Square. What happened the characters of Johnny Allen and Andy Hunter when the Mitchells became flavour of the month as they always seem to by the producers of Eastenders. His character will be changed just to suit a new sensational explosive return of one or other of the Mitchells or the prima donna Miss Piggy when she flounces back in for her next few month stint.
I can forcast tears among the many fans of Phil Hunter and Samantha Smug who always hoped that the two would become an item.:crying:

Jack Branning will he be some relation to Jim, Max and Bradley ???:searchme:
Just wondering :hmm:
well this is certainly a shock, could never imagine him quitting the Bill
well it's a good addition to the cast, sounds good getting him involved with the Mitcell sisters
but how many more Eastenders/Bill connections are we gonna get!?
Already postedhere (http://www.soapboards.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=67750) :) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Well I certainly think the future is with the Brannings, what with Bracey/Stax and all the Tanya/Sean stuff, and Tanya's sister coming into it aswell.
I can see Jack causing up trouble with the Mitchell girls, then when the Stax affair is revealed he'll get close to Tanya, causing friction in the Branning family and ruffling Sean's feathers, two bad boys afer Tanya
There's certainly some potential for this character, let's hope Eastenders doesnt ruin him.
another one doing the EE TB I think we should tell the actors that there are more than 2 TV shows.

A good addition to EE, it's about time they got some decent totty and with Christopher Ellison joining let's hope they can steal some air-time of the poison dwarf and Mr beetroot. On the downside I thinks its a bad move for Scott as it has been said actors who move from the bill don't last long in Albert Square.

I'm glad he is moving to Eastenders, as he is a great actor and he doesnt seem to really get any storylines in the bill aymore he used to, as he had the weaver one and the greggory stuff but recently he hasnt and hes not even in it at the minute.
I cant wait to see what his character is gonig to be like, and im glad he is joining the braning family as the are my fav family at the mo
So alan no tears here, lol
So alan no tears here, lol
:p Not even a wee one for the end of any chance of a romance between him and your namesake.
I just hope he is better treated at EE than his predecessors (Johnny Allen and Andy Hunter) fared.

His character sounds really interesting - can't wait to see him on the show.

Of course EE treated Billy Murray and Michael Higgs well at the start because they thought the Mitchell bruvvas would not be back. Enter the buvvas and complete character change for Johnny Allen.
Although I'll be sad to see him leave I do think his character in TB has run its course. He's had some great storylines over the years but there's only so much you can do with one person. I hope they leave the door open for him to come back.

anyway can't really comment on him as I don't really watch the bill.
personally i think this is a big mistake. Eastenders are all well and good with new actors as soon as they join but seem to forget about them after a few weeks and they get rubbish storylines. He sould have stuck with the bill where there is more chance to get better storylines

None of you answered how Jack was related to the other Brannings, I checked on this new guy, I have never seen him before, but of course I have never seen THE BILL either :crying: sorry Alan my dear :p

The fantastic scriptwriters on EE will come up with a really believeable storyline. :)

From DS Jodi:
The 36-year-old actor – who has played DS Phil Hunter for five years – has swapped one flirtatious character for another, landing the role of Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) brother and romeo ex-cop, Jack.
So he's Max's brother from the looks of that :)

How is that letting us down hun? I don't care if they've never mentioned him before, it makes no differnce to the watching of the show. Well for me anyway. They've never told us that Tanya's got a sister but we know one is coming in soon!

I was just complimenting the wonderful scriptwriters on the way they invent relations to suit themselves. Im taking bets on how long Scott will be in EE before he is overshadowed and sidelined. I suppose it depends on the Pantomime season and Ultimate Farce.

It's a shame his impact as Jim's son will be hampered with John Bardon unlikely to return for a long while.

I have a bad feeling about this, think scott is great in the bill, but a good actor needs good scripts, and EE writing is in the main diabolical,i have a feeling sarah phelps will write the first few scipts for his arrival and they'll probably be excellent then someone else will take over and the poor mans career will be ruined,

The poison dwarf will not like someone else stealing the limelight. He should have realised this after what happened to Johnny Allen and Andy Hunters Characters. Rewitten and then written out to bring back the Mitchells
