I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6255452.stm

I cant beleive people are trying to do this again. I was in Central London yesterday for my Prom, and it was medlam. Loads of roads were closed, and no one knew where to do. Lots of people were diverted through Hyde Park, so even there was congested.

Its nearly 2 years since the Underground and Bus bombings in Central London. We can only be thankfull that these were discovered before they went off. The worse thing about it, for me, is where one of them was. One of them was just next to the Trocodera, which is a hot spot for young people like me. Its a massive arcade and leisure place. Young people are always in and out of there, even in the day time. Putting one there is basically targetting teenagers, which is very very sad i think.

This is one of the reasons why i am against how Blair and Bush dealt with the aftermath in Iraq. Why should me and my friends worry about walking around the city centre, even in the middle of the day? We have done nothing, and yet we end up checking who comes on and off of our carriage, when we are on the underground, and we end up being suspicious of everyone. This is what people go through everyday in Iraq and places similar, most of whom are just as innocent as us.

I love living in London, dont get me wrong. I wont live anywhere else. But this constant wondering about Terrorism, on the Underground, on the Bus, and now just walking down the ****ing street. I hate it. You dont feel safe anywhere in central London anymore, even in the middle of the daytime.

Nothing came of this attempt- but its only 2 years ago when all of London was cut off, and people were killed. Its only thanks to some normal people who rung the police that nothing happened yesterday.

It just really angers me. This is my home, and yet i cant feel safe here. But why should any of us get pushed out of our homes and our city because of it? We have done absolutly nothing. These are attacks against the politics of the country, and yet we feel the consequences of it.

Sorry for the long thread- i wouldn't be surprised if no one replies to this. But sometimes these things just have to be said, tbh.

i have to say that although i don't live in London, i do feel this, and have since the attacks of '05. On a day to day basis, i feel it a bit, but not as much but i don't feel i can go anywhere enclosed anymore and i have to be able to see a way out, due to these terrorist attacks. Blair made mistakes, we have to pay, it's really unfair but there's no way that people can get him for what he's done, so they take it out on us.
Now, Glasgow, where will be next?
We are lucky that the London ones got found, if it hadn't then it would have been really serious. I was in London the other week and whenever we heard sirens we were scared, 25 or so police vans went past us and all we wanted to do was come home, i can't imagine having to live like that every day.

It is a really scary thought, I was suppose to go into London today becuase I wanted to see Kerry Ellis perform at pride then was going out for a friends birthday but my friend text me saying London was back on high alert so I decided not to go in they had also cancelled parts of pride so thought they may end up cancelling the main reason I was going in so it wasn't worth it, and my friend might not end up going out to celebrate her bday, It is such a shame that we have to worry about these things innocent people who it really doesn't have anything to do with.

A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.
Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.

They have also described seeing two Asian men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.

Strathclyde Police said two people had been arrested and detained in connection with the incident.

The airport has been evacuated and all flights suspended following the incident at 1515 BST.

There was an Asian guy who was pulled out of the car by two police officers

A Whitehall spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a national security threat.

One eyewitness said: "I heard the sound of a car's wheels spinning and smoke coming out.

"I saw a Jeep Cherokee apparently as if it was trying to get right through the doors into the terminal building.

"There were flames coming out from underneath then some men appeared from in amongst the flames.

"The police ran over and the people started fighting with the police. I then heard what sounded like an explosion."

Molotov cocktails

Eye-witness Richard Grey told BBC News 24: "A green Jeep was in the middle of the doorway burning.

"There was an Asian guy who was pulled out of the car by two police officers, who he was trying to fight off. They've got him on the ground.

"The car didn't actually explode. There were a few pops and bangs which presumably was the petrol."

Stephen Clarkson said he saw people running towards him and "panicking" then noticed a crashed Cherokee jeep.

The car was ablaze before crashing into the building

He said he helped police restrain one of the men.

"It was lucky that I was there," he said.

"I managed to knock the man to the ground with my forearm and the police got on top of him and restrained him and put handcuffs on him."

Thomas Conroy, a maintenance worker at the airport believes the men deliberately tried to set the car on fire.

"It looked like they had molotov cocktails with them," he said.

"They sort of burst them round about the flames to make sure the car would go up big style.

"Within minutes it was up and the terminal caught as well."

'No accident'

Dr Rak Nandwani was at the airport building to pick up relatives when he saw a plume of black smoke.

He said: "The whole place has come to a standstill, the terminal building has been evacuated. I have spoken to my relatives and they have been moved to outside the building.

"They were told they could not pick their baggage up from the baggage collection area.

The incident happened 1515 BST on Saturday

"There must be about 50 police cars at the airport. Me and my son, along with everyone else, have been moved to the car rental area."

Taxi driver Ian Crosby said: "This was no accident. This was a deliberate attack on Glasgow Airport."

The reaction of members of the public was not to help the men in the car, but to restrain them, he told the BBC.

Mr Crosby, who said he served in Northern Ireland, told how he shepherded people away from the scene in case of a secondary explosion or a nail-bomb.

Two men, one of whom was reported to be badly burned, were seen being led away in handcuffs.

A number of people are stuck on aeroplanes while others have been told they might not be able to leave the airport complex until at least 2100 BST.

I know what you mean about worrying to walk about in Central London.. I went to see Billy Elliot musical about a week ago and we were told we were getting the tube and not a coach I was getting so worried! My parents don't let me go on the tube.. not alone or with my mates and we don't really use it AT ALL. So I was quite worried and kept thinking what if today was another day that the train I'm on or something blows up. I know it's stupid because many other Londeners and people go by trains and everything everyday getting on with what they do but I can't help it!

I'm always travelling on the tube and it doesn't really bother me but it was becuase I heard London was on red alert that I decided against going up today and as it wasn't a necessary trip I just thought it isn't worth risking it.

Hope you enjoyed Billy though lol it's a fantastic show

They just said on a news report that the national security level has been raised to Critical, because of whats happened in London and Glascow.

On a side note: Browns not having a very good start to the job, is he!?

We should be thankfull that the terrorist incidents were averted. If they had been successful there would have been many killed or injured tomorrow with the concert for Princess Diana being held. These evil people know what they are doing and the best opportunities to strike, but we must learn to remain strong against them.

It is brilliant that they have managed to stop them let's hope it stays that way and they don't try anymore

One of the bombers had a device on him at the hospital, which caused the evactuation.

We HAVE to carry on with our lives - if we don't, we let these people win.

It is true we do have to just carry on or everything would just come to a stand still.

Statistically you are more likely to be injured tripping up on the pavement than to be injured in a terrorist incident in the UK.

My eldest son is playing in a Jazz concert today in Glasgow, he is going there with the band in a bus without me or my husband. Should I terrify him and refuse to let him go? No. The likelyhood of anything happening to him is minute. I would do more harm to him making him scared of his own shadow.

As JoJo says - you let these people win if you let them change your life.

These actions are those of individuals - I find it repulsive that people can blame the actions of terrorists on either the government or on minority communities.

Yes, the war in Iraq is breeding distrust and hatred of the US and the UK.

Yes, the world needs a peaceful conclusion that doesn't look very close at the moment.

But, NO - this does not justify INDIVIDUALS carrying out acts of indiscriminate acts of TERROR ANYWHERE.

I agree completely. Theres nothing that stops me going on the Underground or the Bus, it just makes you a lot more wary. But thats natural, i think. Becaust lets face it, no one likes to drive in Central London, so how else are you meant to get around?! And i refuse to let them stop me going where i want to go.

Just heard about this from my mum as i was away this weekend and didn't hear anything. I'm so glad they managed to stop them. I agree completely with what has been said, you have to carry on with your lives as normal - terrorists shouldn't stop you from carrying out your usual routine, whether it's taking the Tube or going to a place where terrorism could take place, your just letting them win and take over your lives if you do this.

I flew to New York the year after 9/11. I go back there every couple of years and I will be going back there next year also.

These people are fanatical activists whose actions cannot be blamed on the Government or anyone else. The only people that can be blamed are these terrorists themselves.

Do we blame the Government for attacks on Doctors that carry out abortions by activists? Or attacks on scientists using mice/rats for medical research?

Sorry, but these people are to blame - like Trinity said, yes the war in Iraq has caused unrest, but to blame individuals for these attacks taking place is bloody ridiculous, and frankly makes me angry.

Ever since the devastation of 9/11 the whole world has been living on edge wondering when these terrorist will hit next. These people don't care how many lives they destroy with their actions but we cannot let them rule and ruin our lives. Yes the war in Iraq has played a major part in these attacks but what was our government and the US supposed to do sit back and watch innocent people be murdered by an evil tyrant. or have we forgotten what Hitler tried to do over 60 years ago. These scumbags don't support anyone all they want to do is bring death and devastation to every one. We have to keep going and live our lives as we would. And not let them win.

Thank God these morons don't possess half a brain cell. Lock them up and throw away the key.

These are evil times we live in. I don't give a **** what people say - neither side can justify their actions. It all comes down to power, control and the 'my dick is bigger than yours' syndrome.

Jojo

Terrorism has been around for far more years than the past 10 - people seem to forget that. We've had plenty of other bombings occur and they always will occur no doubt.

We are building ourselves into a **** of a nation that frankly I'm starting to not want to be part of.

We are so quick to blame Education and the "system" for children running riot or out of control, yet blame the parents and we are out of order. The same is happening here - lets blame one man for pathetic morons thinking its ok to come to our country and try and carry out these atrocities. Its not all down to one person for this.

I'm not going to let any of this prevent me from enjoying my life - if I do, these fanatics have won. You have one chance at this life - make the most of it. I'm a firm believer of when your time is up, your time is up, no matter what happens.

An eighth person has been arrested abroad as part of the inquiry into the failed car bombings at Glasgow Airport and in London, the BBC has learned.

Police have not specified in which country the arrest took place.

It is also understood the Metropolitan Police will be taking charge of both inquiries and are to transfer a suspect held in Scotland to the UK capital.

Iraqi Bilal Abdulla will be taken to Paddington Green police station where another doctor is also being quizzed.

**
Although these attempted attacks were foiled, a lot of forensic clues were left behind by the terrorists. Its thanks to this that the police have made so many arrests in such a short space of time.

We can't lay the blame at Tony Blair's door. Terrorism was happening in this country long before the Iraq war and people seem to forget that. When people are fed up or there are no answers they all think the same - lets blame the Government because they never do anything right for the country.
