Hi, I've had a new pond for about 2 months now. It is 14ft x 7ft x 4.5ft. There are 15 goldfish and 4 Koi. I have a pump down the bottom and a UVC filter box on the opposite end of the pond. The water was getting steadily getting greener and greener until I can't see the fish unless they are right up the surface. I have tried adding Interpet BioStart and Hozelock Green water treatment (not at the same time!). Made hardly any difference. It is so frustrating not being able to see my fish swimming around like when I first filled the pond with water. :wall::angry:

Any advice you could give would be much appreciated. :)

Well if it's green then I would say its algae. It sometimes occurs when most of the water comes from a tap and is high in phosphates and nitrates.
There's a bit here on green water and what to do here http://www.countrysideinfo.co.uk/pond_maker/page3.htm and here http://www.creativepumps.com.au/Pumps/green_pond_water_problems.htm

do you have a filter which stands alone from the pond, e.g. on the bank, so water pumps through it, not a uv filter though.

Yes, it is a filter box which sits behind the pond, It is called Green Machine 11500 and has a UVC attached to the top of the filter box. Water pumps through it by way of a pump which sits at the bottom of the pond.

Do you have a pond?

I haven't cleaned the filter cos in the instructions it says I have to let the bacteria and sediment build up to block the sponge cartridges so it can filter the water properly. I have cleaned the pump though.

if it's new, i think you're supposed to leave it a while before putting fish in, so it can get into its natural course :S

Yeah, when the pond was first built back in April, we filled it with water and ran the pump and filter box for 2 weeks with NO fish before adding the fish. We have 2 water lillies and 2 baskets of irises.
