When the team discover there is no evidence that intercourse took place, Carl is released. However, when DC Grace Dasari tells DCI Jack Meadows that Carl’s fingerprints have shown up on their system in connection to a series of rapes investigated by Jack and DCI Roy Atherton twenty years before, Roy is called in and after a few moments reminiscing, the case is reopened.

Jack and Roy visit Margi Jackson, a prostitute who was raped at the time. After much persuasion she reluctantly agrees to help and along with Jack, visits the hotel she was attacked in. After further investigation, Jack discovers that the hotel was run by Annie and Brian Thomas at the time of the attacks. During his interview, Andy admits to everything but insists that Lisa used one of the cards. Emma is forced to arrest Lisa on suspicion of theft and is shocked to learn that Andy made his confession out of spite. 21st June

Trainee DC Kezia Walker and DS Stuart Turner receive an unexpected start to the day when they discover DCI Jack Meadows asleep at his desk. Superintendent John Heaton tells Jack that he has been working too hard and insists that he takes the rest of the day off.

As Jack heads home in his car, he is dangerously close to falling asleep when he is startled by his mobile phone. Reaching over to switch it off, he looks up to see a man in military uniform and wearing a balaclava standing in the middle of the road. Swerving to avoid him, Jack suddenly crashes into a builder’s skip, narrowly missing a steel bar, which plummets through his windscreen. The masked man checks on Jack but runs away when he realises he is a police officer.

Back at the station, DC Mickey Webb is shocked to hear about the accident and the fact that the traffic unit don’t believe Jack’s version of events. When Heaton explains to Mickey that if they don’t work out what really happened Jack’s career could be over, Mickey helps his DCI prove his story…

Elsewhere, PCs Emma Keane and Will Fletcher are called to an Industrial Estate where they see Rashid Akhtar stumbling out of the building just as an explosion goes off. Unhurt, Rashid is questioned by CID where he explains he is the key holder and discovered the place on fire when he went to check out the alarm. He says that the lock up is owned by his son-in-law, Arihant Kazir who bought Rashid’s garden centre business. When DI Neil Manson and DC Grace Dasari eventually track Arihant down, they discover he’s been beaten unconscious.

Back at Sunhill, DS Stuart Turner learns that Arihant changed his name when he converted to Islam and has a string of convictions under his previous name. Stuart believes the name change and garden centre business could be a front for something more sinister. He later interviews a nervous Rashid who admits he knew Arihant had been in prison but was assured by his daughter that he had changed his ways. However, he is worried that Arihant has dangerous friends and fundamentalist views. Stuart’s investigation forces him to ask whether Arihant is a terrorist…
