I don't know where to put this so I put this in the spoilers x
Sorry to be the bearers of bad news...
But Doctor Who fans may need to get out the Kleenex.
The show is set to be exterminated next year - after the fourth series.
We're sad to say but it seems David Tennant, who plays the Time Lord, will be packing up his Tardis and skedaddling off our screens.
"But it's so popular," we hear you cry.
Well, the show's big cheese, writer Russell T Davies, is said to be behind the idea as he wants time to concentrate on new projects.
A source told The Sun: "The heavy workload - nine months of 16-hour days every year - has started to take its toll.
"It was decided that the best thing for the show was go out at the top next year."
There was a time when I'd have been sad to hear this, but it's been awful this year, a shadow of its former self. Best to go out when its "average" rather than a shambles.
Tbh I thought the show would still go on without Russel T Davies, obviously not...
I don't really mind. I'm not such a fan of Martha as I was of Rose, so by the end of the fourth series, I could well have tired of her.
They've been saying this since series 1, lol!
Russel will prob be leaving, and i think they're thinking of having a short break for the year, but theres been no news of them decommissioning it. Be fair, why would they drop their flagship show, which is the most popular thing on Saturday night TV (Fact :p ). I hope Steven Moffet takes it over, he's the best writter of the lot.
Well once David decides to quit that its, because he's the tenth doctor and the doctor only ever could change 10 times rights  Or i am just making this up !
I don't want it to finish though :(

I don't want it too end just yet. I know they have to film for 9 months of the year but so does many other dramas like casualty and they have been doing it for years. I agree that Martha doesn't have the same effect on the show that Rose did but she should be given a chance to find her own character. If Russell T Davis wants to concentrate on other shows then they should encourage another writer to take over.
I thought that, too, Layne. I don't think they should get another writer. Russel T Davies is great, and changing a writer and companion would be too significant a change, in my opinion. I'm sure there are some that have stopped watching since Billie quit, so I'm sure that losing him would lose some more viewers.
It would be wrong wrong wrong to axe Dr Who. I'm a fairly tragic die-hard fan of the show and think that it's one of the only programmes making BBC worth its license fee (and of course, torchwood). Russell T Davies is an incredible writer and producer, but he's not the only writer in the team now, i believe. So i'm sure that he could swan off and do his more important stuff and it would still carry on.
I did read something last night online saying that BBC is committed to Dr Who, which would suggest that although changes maybe a-foot, it's not being axed.:hmm:

The rating for this series have been pretty much the same as last series (Between about 7 and 8 million on average, in the top 10 for the week, and 1st for Saturday, pretty much every week) so Billie leaving hasn't had any effect.
I dont like RTD that much anyway. His stories (apart from the finale) are the worst ones, i think. I love Steven Moffet and Paul Cornell the best (Though the second part of Paul Cornell's story tonight might change my mind yet, lol!). I reckon it would be SM that would take over, if anyone.

Just wondering everyones saying the doctor could only change ten or 13 times? I thought he could change an almost infinate number of times, or as long as it took for the BBC to drop it all together?
I thought it was 12 times (therefore 13 re-incarnations) and that was another reason why his son had been mentioned, so then the series could (if wished) carry on through him :searchme:

this spoiler was from The Sun, who arent always reliable it has to be said. And the source said Russell T Davis had decided to axe it, Im pretty sure its up to the BBC to axe it, not just the writer, I think its a load of rubbish.

Yep you're right. A Time Lord can regenerate twelve times, therefore there wil be 13 doctors if it spans out that long.

but can you really see the BBC canceling one of there top rated shows just because RTD has decieded to leave.
RTD thinks he is better than everyone else...but for someone who thinks they know how to write Sci-fi (I mean RTD not me lol) his episodes have been some of the worst recieved by the fans...shouldnt taht be telling him some thing
I don,t think that Dr Who will be axed. If it has been axed, you would that thought that there would be an announcement from the bbc,but there isn,t.So Dr Who has not been axed.
Dr Who is too successful to be axed! There have been so many great writers involved just because one leaves it shouldn't mean the end!

BBC are onto a really succesful thing with Dr Who...As long as the viewers keep tuning in I reckon it'll go on for ages!
I think they'll take a break for a while after series 4. Because they'll prob be between writers, and between Doctors. Makes sense to take a year out, and then come back with a bang in 2010, with a new head writer, a new doctor and so on. They might not to do, but it would make a lot of sense, and keep it fresh.
