Hollyoaks sweeps the board at Soap Award nominations
The nominations for The Soap Awards 2007 have been revealed and Hollyoaks is the only soap to have been nominated in every category.
The popular Channel 4 soap has at least one nomination in each of the fifteen categories with the final results being revealed in a night of glitz and glamour to be held in London at the end of May.

Producer Bryan Kirkwood said: “I am delighted that Hollyoaks has been nominated in every category which I think is thoroughly deserved as over the past year the show has gone from strength to strength. Our audience is growing every week, reaching a massive 4.5m viewers for one episode this week, closing the gap between us and the big three soaps. And with some explosive storylines planned for the summer, this trend is set to continue.

“Last year we went home with two awards but this year I am confident that we can do even better. Hollyoaks has it all – powerful performances, great writing, award-winning storylines and beautiful people."

4.5 million viewers! That's brilliant for Hollyoaks! It's finally getting more and more viewers and is turning a corner, fantastic!

brilliant, i loved it last year when they beat corrie to the best storyline, there was complete shock. I hope they do it a bit more this year.

It truely deserves recognition. It's been on top form.

Hollyoaks have dismissed claims that Gemma Atkinson is to return to Channel 4 soap later this year, Digital Spy can reveal.

Recent news reports have suggested that the 22-year-old actress has allegedly signed a £100,000-a-year deal, which would make her the show's highest-paid star.

A spokeswoman for the programme, however, told DS: "There are no current plans for Gemma Atkinson to return to Hollyoaks in the foreseeable future."

Gemma appeared in the Channel 4 soap as Lisa Hunter for four years until leaving in 2005. She then went on to appear in spin-off show Hollyoaks: Let Loose the same year and Hollyoaks: In The City earlier this year as well as competing in the recent series of Soapstar Superstar.

I thought this was the good news

i have to admit, when i first started watching hollyoaks about 5 or 6 years ago it was purely to pass time cos there was nothing else on...but then i started to get really into it and the storylines started to get better with more explosive outcomes, it became really exciting! now i watch it cos its one of my top 3 soaps and i hate it when i miss an episode, not that i can as each episode is shown upto 7 times a week briliant...
