I had braces since Sept. 2006 and my teeth have never been sensitive.. I heard after you get braces you usually get sensitive teeth because of all the movement etc.

Today I was just rinsing my mouth after I had my lunch (normal temp. water, not hot, not cold) and my one tooth out of the whole mouth gave me some sort of pain which I can't describe.. it was extreamly painful.. just one that tooth/gum. This has never happened to me before.. I brushed that area incase there was some food stuck in my braces causing the pain but nothing was there anyways.. I went back to school after I had my lunch and when I spoke outside (quite windy) when the air hit that tooth I sort of felt the pain coming back again.

I just tried drinking some water just now and I felt it again.. =| I got orthodontist appointment next Wednesday.. What do you all suggest?! Any tips/help PLEASE!! I'm going to tell my mum when she's back from picking bruv and sis from school.. Won't make any difference to my tooth though  Thank-you in adavance xxx

You could try changing your toothpaste to a sensitive one hun - I have to brush mine with a sensitive toothpaste. I also rinse with tepid water rather than cold etc as I find that helps too. Definitely speak to your orthodontist about it aswell though when you go next week

Thanks luckily my mum uses the Sensodyne toothpaste which I will now be using :p..

I did a tiny bit of research on the internet and apparently grinding teeth could cause sensitive teeth.. I don't do this by purpose but quite a few times for the past 2 months I been grinding my teeth in my sleep.. I suddenly wake up when I do it and realise I have been doing it.. I looked into that and it's caused by stress.. which I don't think I have but I do get quite worked up lol..

I did it again twice accidently (Sort of leaving loads of water in my mouth) :( Kills SOO much.. I try putting pressure on it.. leaving it.. sucking the water wherever there is from the tooth but nothing works.. the pain just dies in its own time (after 5-10 seconds)..

5 days till Ortho. =|

Its not nice is it. Unfortunately, the sensitive toothpaste doesn't generally tend to work until about a week or so after brushing with it either, but hopefully you may find some improvement there by the time you see the ortho. Even though I use sensitive toothpaste, I still get sensitive teeth on occasions, so it might not ever fully go away. But hopefully your dentist should be able to give you some advice hun x

do you know whether you could have a hole in your tooth as i had one in one of my front teeth and if i ate anything cold or when i brushed my teeth and stuff like that, that sent shotting pains all through my mouth

You can get your teeth "sealed" by your dentist. They put some sort of coating/chemical thing over your teeth to stop them from being so sensitive. I used to have them done when I was younger and it doesn't hurt. They put cotton wool rolls between your gums which leaves your mouth dry but thats the worst of it.

I looked it over (my tooth) very closely, and the gums and the teeth next to it but there's no holes.. PHEW lol.. Might be something to with the gums then I reckon. Thanks for all the info and stuff guys x

I know what you mean about cotton wools and a dry mouth.. I think they did it when I had my braces put on.. ergh lol! x
