I have to say this is really growing on me now. Wasn't sure about it at first, thought it was a bit weird but i'm really starting to like it now. Quite catchy I think ..

I agree, Jay-Z ruins it. Still a very very good song though.

I can't stand Rhianna's voice. To me it sounds like she strains to sing every song.. it actually makes me cringe. :o

IMO this song is a grower. I prefer her previous songs like SOS. I agree that sometimes it sounds like her voice is straining, but lucky for her she's been lucky with the songs she's landed.

Debs
13-06-2007, 17:19
its one of those songs that i detest at first but find myself singing it all the time and then just loving it!

13-06-2007, 17:23
Didnt like this much at first and it still sometimes annoys me but it is growing on me i must say

Abigail
13-06-2007, 17:26
It's annoyingly awful but it's a grower. Hmm, I'm not sure yet.

Katy
13-06-2007, 17:27
I agree Debs, although the constant playing on the radio of it is slightly sending me back towards hating it.

Scorpio_Girl
14-06-2007, 00:08
I hated it first, I mean a song about an umbrella??

But then a group of girls (I knew them) got on the bus and played it and started singing to it (the umbrella -ella - ella- eh - eh etc lol) while it was pouring outside and the song just clicked. I really like it now, it's just a little too over-played.

CrazyLea
14-06-2007, 00:11
I still really hate it! But I must say I keep singing it!!!! Ah. Driving me crazy . In my college class they keep playing it! (That or hellogoodbye). It's always on the radio in work!! Just keeps getting in my poor little head :(

Scorpio_Girl
14-06-2007, 00:15
Oh Yeah, I love that hellogoodbye song! lol Thanks you just reminded me of the band. I usually hate dance music but I really like that song. I'll probably hate it when everyone plays it enough.

CrazyLea
14-06-2007, 00:16
I used to hate that hellogoodbye one, but it's really growing on me!! Love it at the moment.

Scorpio_Girl
14-06-2007, 00:18
I know it's definately going to be one of the songs that's in my 'When I get a car and learn to drive' playlist!!! It's going to be pumping down the street lol. The bass is amazing. :p

Katy
14-06-2007, 12:09
there was something on the RTE breakfast show this morning, when they were singing, Salminella ella ella ella, It was so funny.

Chris_2k11
15-06-2007, 01:09
I absolutely love it. sorry but I think its her best to date. Very catchy, one of my faves so far this year! She gets a lot of undeserved criticism I feel.

Chris_2k11
26-06-2007, 17:39
for anyone who likes this song can i suggest another version :p

Rihanna - Umbrella (Seamus Haji & Paul Emanual Club Remix)

i heard it the other week and now like it more than the actual song, its much faster and really good

x Amby x
02-07-2007, 10:55
it has been overplayed, but it still makes me sing and dance everytime i hear it! its just a brilliant song! x

This song has now been the longest to stay at number one in 15 months

Abigail
02-07-2007, 20:27
It's grown on me. Apart from the annoying chorus its a good song.

Chloe-Elise
06-07-2007, 19:08
I hated this song at first, but I really like it now, its so catchy. It's been overplayed a bit though, its on everywhere at the moment!

Kim
06-07-2007, 22:30
I was the same, Clo. I only started liking it about a week ago, and I couldn't get my head around how it had managed to be the only song at number one for as long as Gnarls Barkley - Crazy in a year. With it being so overplayed, though, I think I will tire of it before long.

CrazyLea
16-07-2007, 23:06
Anyone heard the Biffy Clyro version of this song?

Sooooo much better than whiny Rihanna! I actually like the song by them.

Jessie Wallace

I'm so with you on that, everyone on Radio 1 loves the Biffy version better.

I hate the song when done by her tho

this is by far the most annoying song this year.. it is overplayed and it does my head in

Xx-Vicky-xX
17-07-2007, 11:12
I used to really like this but ive gone off it - i think its played to much really, though if it comes on when i have my ipod on i do still listen to it but often get half way through and skip it cos im sick of it

Katy
17-07-2007, 11:21
if i hear it one more time i will scream, it seems everytime i put on a radio its playing, its driving me mental.

Bryan
17-07-2007, 11:24
9 weeks at the top!? am i missing something - it's not even a good song! so WHY!?

Timbaland and Fergie were both robbed from top place by this rubbish.

Still how suited is this as our summer song, with all the rain we've been getting

Katy
17-07-2007, 11:27
yeah i suppose although its still irritating. What was a tune i cant actually hear anymore just a sort of whining sound. Some one must be buying it nine weeks at the top.

tammyy2j
17-07-2007, 11:55
I like the version now with featuring Chris Brown but the song in general is becoming very annoying

Jada-GDR
17-07-2007, 12:11
I dont like it as much as I like her other stuff.. It's okay but I wouldn't buy it :)

OMG please someone lend me a sledge hammer all i constantly hear is Rhiana- Umbrella or Nelly furtado - say I am

I do not denial that i like some R&B songs even though i am not a big fan but if hear either one of these songs again i going to scream. I did not know something could be played so much has their record not worn out yet.

18-07-2007, 10:46
The song is bearable until she starts going umberella-ella-ella :wall:

Why has it been so long at the top though? It's a song about umbrellas. basically..:rotfl:

Chris_2k11
22-07-2007, 22:48
I think this'll be the last week now, i can't see her doing it again next week

.:SpIcYsPy:.
22-07-2007, 23:30
Wow the last time an artist made it No1 for 10 weeks was back in 1994... Well done Rihanna! As much as I like this song and I sort of sing it whenever it comes on the radio I like the Chris Brown cinderella version much better IMO, I don't think it should have been No1 for this long. Can't believe but well done to her lol!

CrazyLea
23-07-2007, 00:34
I've never understood how people make it week after week.. 1 okay, 2 maybe, 3 what? 4... okay what's going on.. I mean the ones who like it surely they buy it within a month? And then the few waiths (sp) and strays that are the last to hear it will buy it but ya know..

Chris_2k11

Rihanna has broken a chart record after she held on to her number one spot for a tenth consecutive week yesterday with single 'Umbrella'.

The song is now the longest running chart topper this century and the longest running number one since Wet, Wet, Wet released 'Love Is All Around' in 1994.

Rihanna is one of only seven acts to reach that record for that length of time.

The longest-running song ever was Bryan Adams' 'Everything I Do (I Do It For You)', which stayed at the top of the charts for 16 weeks in 1991.

The top 10 UK singles in full:

1. (1) Rihanna ft. Jay Z: 'Umbrella'
2. (8) Fergie: 'Big Girls Don't Cry'
3. (2) Kate Nash: 'Foundations'
4. (-) Timbaland ft. Doe/keri Hilson: 'The Way I Are'
5. (23) Arctic Monkeys: 'Fluorescent Adolescent'
6. (3) Avril Lavigne: 'When You're Gone'
7. (4) Enrique Iglesias: 'Do You Know'
8. (5) Hoosiers: 'Worried About Ray'
9. (16) My Chemical Romance: 'Teenagers'
10. (7) Natasha Bedingfield: 'Soul Mate'

Rihanna has agreed to capitalise on the success of her Umbrella single - by launching her own range of brollies.

The R&B singer has teamed up with US company Totes, which will produce the designer umbrellas. Prices are expected to range from £10 to £25.

The most expensive umbrella in the collection, the Rihanna 2 Color Satin Stick, was used by the singer during her performance at the MTV Awards earlier this year.

She has been at the top of the UK chart with Umbrella for ten weeks.

ok a bit too far now :rotfl:

I don't think it would sell if that happened..

£10 quid for a brollie, you are having a laugh..

Abigail

Prices are expected to range from £10 to £25.

Thats ridiculous, they only get blown inside out by a gust of wind then they're broken. I wouldn't pay more than a fiver for a brolly, they don't last long enough to justify £25.

This is just going too far now.

My mum keeps saying that all the rain we've had is because of Rhianna's song has been at Number 1...now since she's been knocked off the number 1 spot, we've had really nice weather and it's been sunny (in my area anyway) coincidence or not? :rotfl:

CrazyLea

Def Jam and SRP have big plans for Rihanna in 2008. According to an article from the Nation News, Rihanna is going to be visiting Africa, South America and Japan early in 2008 and then will do a huge United States tour from May to July. Rihanna’s production and management team of Evan Rogers, Carl Struken and Marc Jordan are looking forward to things to come.

“After July we will focus on movies and give her a break from being on the road, where she has been for a year straight,” Rogers told the Nation News.

He also mentioned two more singles are going to be released from her recent album, Good Girl Gone Bad.

“We’re only scratching the surface of where Rihanna is going. Movies will be a big part of her future,” he added.

Rogers also stated that the team is also looking forward to the Grammy’s in February 2008 saying they are “unpredictable” but they “like the chances”.

Rihanna has been forced to cancel three UK concert dates by her doctor.

The 19-year-old singer was due to perform in Nottingham on Saturday, but she pulled out and postponed the concert. She also cancelled her scheduled gig in Bournemouth last Tuesday.

The 'Umbrella' hitmaker was due to play Birmingham's NEC Arena tonight but her doctor advised her to not go through with the show.

A representative from the NEC said that Rihanna "appreciates the love and support of all her fans and wants nothing more than to see and connect with them".

The reason for the doctor's order has not been confirmed.

Rihanna started her European tour in Paris last month and was due to finish on December 21 in Russia.

The Good Girl Gone Bad tour keeps rocking its way through Europe, as Rihanna’s most recent stop saw her performing for fans at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Dressed in her usual dominatrix outfit, the 19-year-old R&B sensation did her best to show fans why she’s nominated for 6 Grammy awards - which she can’t believe herself.

"Oh my God, I can’t believe it. Six Grammy nominations?” Rihanna said to mentor/composer Evan Rogers, who relayed news of the nominations from the United States. “I just can’t believe this is happening to me. I almost have to pinch myself to believe this is happening to me,” the Umbrella hitmaker continued.

Along with being up for the prestigious Record Of The Year bid, Rihanna’s also up for Song Of The Year, Best Dance Recording, Best R&B Song, Best Rap/Song Collaboration and Best R&B Performance.

"Yesterday, Rihanna was a guest at UK’s Radio One, for their Live Lounge series - an in-studio song session. Rihanna sang “Hate That I Love You” and “Umbrella.”

You can listen to the session and interview (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainframe.shtml?http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio1_aod.shtml?radio1/whiley_rihanna) on the BBC Radio site. Rihanna talked about spending her Christmas in Barbados; and toward the end, Rihanna told the story of how Mary J. Blige almost stole the biggest hit of her career."

Proof that she can sing :) dont think much of the backing singers though!

Bajan singer, Rihanna, last night copped her first ever Grammy award for the song that has taken the globe by storm, 'Umbrella'.

Rihanna, wearing a purple Zac Posen knee-length dress and sporting a shorter hairstyle, looked visibly nervous as she walked on to the stage and was shown to the mike by mentor and record label exec, Jay-Z.

She dedicated the award, the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, to her father, as well as her mother and brothers and to Barbados. This as Jay-Z interrupted to thank producers and others at the label.

Rihanna also performed at the ceremony, appearing in a short khaki-colored dress that looked almost like a grass creation held together by a black belt with matching black boots.

She opened with her global hit, 'Umbrella', before transitioning off to hits by The Time and the Recording Academy's chairman, Jimmy Jam, with whom she shared the stage.
