View Full Version : Freeview recorder
I already have a normal freeview box in my room but I want one that records. I've seen them in Tesco ( http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-2601.aspx http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-0942.aspx and http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-6277.aspx ) and Argos ( http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5320871.htm and http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5320864.htm )
Does anybody have one of these and are they any good? I don't want to spend a lot (less than £120) on one seeing as I don't have much money but I would like a decent one that looks nice. I know some come with a DVD recorder included but I'm not bothered about that. What should I look for as standard/basic requirements?
at first i didn't understand but i do now, some of them have hard drives you record on to .... durrr
I odn't know excatly what requirements you should be looking for but i persume one with a reasonably good sized Hard Drive.
I Have a DVD recorder with Freeview included, but it was rather expensive, but it is great!!

The only thing I would say is to stick to known brands. You need to conisder if you would ever want channels like UK Gold on it, and if so, you would need one that is top up tv compatible. I'd avoid Goodmans - I had a £80 CD player and it broke within a month.

I've some Goodmans product, and they've been working perfectly well for years!
I agree JW - I've had many Goodmans products tv's, videos etc that have lasted for years and then had Phillips products which have lasted 3 months. I've also had a DVD player that cost me £20 to buy, unknown brand which lasted 3 years until I decided to get a DVD Recorder and even then its now in my son's room.

Its often said that the cheaper your DVD player the better it is. They play most formats whereas more expensive brands only play Region 2 (Europe.)
I'm not too fussed about the top up channels, I can't afford it.

Plus, the other thing to remember is that everything that is sold must be fit for purpose, no matter what the make model or cost. If it isn't then you can take back for a full refund/replacement.
