I need help!!! I took my PC into work yesterday to get the techy guys to have a look at it as I was having a few problems with it. When I got it home I discoverd there was no sound. I checked the control panel for sound and devices and the part that says mute or place icon on task bar is ghosted. I went into device manager but the speaker Icon had a yellow exclamation mark on it. when I clicked trooublshooter it says this device has a code 10 it is not working properly. I spoke to my nephew and he suggested restoring the systems to an earlier date but the college techs have installed the college anti-virus software for me and a genuine copy of windows XP so I don't want to undo those installs if I do. I took it back into work today and the tech said it would be one of the drivers and he would fix it. However when I got home the problem is still the same. I have tried installing drivers for it but it just keeps saying you won't fine a better driver than is already installed. Is there anyway I can install drivers for it from the net as I'm not back in work until Tuesday.

no Alan I didn't I couldn't see what I was supposed to be looking for when I clicked on the link. I spoke to my nephew again last night. He is going to pop up over the weekend and try and find drivers or a new sound card for it. If not I will have to wait until Tuesday and take it back into work again.

i believe a driver is what you need for a sound card, i'm sure that's what i had to get for my friends laptop, when i lost her sound for her!

Have you tried looking on the general download section on that page too?

You will find one that;'s right on that website, it's just finding it hun! If you tell it the right information, it will just lead you to a link to download a new driver for your sound. Well that's what i had to do with my friends laptop.

Good luck tho, i'm sure you can do it :D

I am pleased to announce that the sound has been restored in my PC. I spoke to the techy guy Kev at work on Tuesday to explain that the sound was still not working. I took it back into work on Wednesday for him to look at it. Apparently the sound card has somehow disappeared so he installed one that had fallen out of another PC. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

I don't care where it fell out of Alan. My PC is working and that's all that matters. I ask no questions and get told no lies :D
