A gang of six youngsters recently caused £50,000 worth of damage to the Hogwarts Express used in the Potter films. The group, some as young as 10, broke into the West Coast Railway depot at the former Steamtown site in Carnforth, England and destructed the train's windows using its emergency hammers.

Patricia Marshall, managing director of West Coast Railway, said: "It will take at least a month to repair, because so much damage was caused."

That is shocking and the little pigs will not be charge with criminal damage as most of them will probably be too young to be held accountable. They will thinks it one big joke.

Shame they aren't forced to contribute to the cost of the damage in one way shape or form, but like you say Kath, they'll probably say they were too young to understand what they were doing :wall:

They should be done, thats one part of the law i dont like. Infancy as a defence, basically under 10, (it was 14) then you cant be charged with anything. Its blatent that the intentions there.

I dont get kids these days.

Well, you can get away with murder these days so getting away with smashing windows should be a doddle. If you have epilepsy you can use it in your defence and claim diminished responsibility!! It's true, I was shocked when I heard it and Epilepsy Action are now campagning to get the law changed so it can't be used as part of a defence. Read more here http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/research/current.html

But back to the topic, it's a pity some parents couldn't keep their little hooligans in check and take responsibility for them instead of blaming everybody else.
Even if they do get found guilty they'll probably only get community service or a £50 fine.

Omg I can't believe this! Kids as young as 10?! What on earth are these parents doing while they are out vadalising everything?! But I guess you can't really blame the parents. I think they really should be punished and this should not be allowed. If kids young as 10 are allowed to do this then the age limit for the 'younger prison' should be lowered!

Found some extra info. and I thought I'd share it:

The train, which takes them to wizard school in the films, has had 200 of its 230 windows smashed.

----

Sadly, this isn't the first time the iconic train has been vandalised.

In September 2003, one of its carriages had to be repainted after it was covered with graffiti.

Ten boys have been arrested after the Hogwarts Express was badly damaged.
The train, which takes Harry Potter and his friends to wizard school in the films, had about 200 of its 230 windows smashed in March.

Police said 10 boys, aged 12 to 14, had been arrested and released but have to report to the police again in May.

The train's going to cost £50,000 to repair so it might be a while before it can leave the imaginary platform 9 3/4 at London's King's Cross station again.
