Here is an extract from the interview:
I believe Coronation Street is the most important programme in the history of British television. It's hugely significant, culturally and economically at all sorts of levels and particularly for this city and this region." And he also knocks out this little gem: "When we get it right in Coronation Street, it's the ability to tell a story that intense, dramatic and tragic, and lace it with humour. That's very important. As long as I've got anything to do with it, the show will carry on doing that."
