Just a comment about John Inman dying and how programmes like "Are you been served" and "til death do us part" are not longer PC for today's world. I was watching Friend last night and the word "porn" was blocked out. They have even changed Children's story to be PC, there is no more ugly old witches/troll or billy goat saying that the next one along is fatter.. Please!! is everyone that easily offended that we have to watch everything we say???

So do you think we have gone overboard with the whole PC thing or do you feel that there are still things out there that can be brought more in line?

definitly gone overboard. Its absolutly ridiculas the amount of times you get corrected. Its like brainstorms in school. or Spider diagrams. You cant use those terms anymore as its a mind map.

:hmm: I think some things have gone OTT, but then others, I could see why they may have wanted to change them.

But there seem to be so many words that can be deemed as offensive to people now, that you have to watch everything you say/do etc, for fear of reprimand for it.

Could you imagine Alf Garnet on tv these days! Its like Tom and Jerry - where they've deemed that its depicting cruelty to animals etc - it never encouraged me to do anything bad to animals, I just sat, watched and laughed.

Although its not directly related. with the whole political correctness and health and safety.

Bench balls is apparently banned in many schools.

How stupid is that

Childrens programmes like Balamory makes me laugh with the whole political correctness.. not that I watch it  But I've seen the odd episode :p. The older childrens problems didn't do it so much as these days. I've found anyway.

Also, the whole Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep... is a black person honestly going to get offended with it being Baa Baa Black sheep

I think the world definately has gone mad with it to be honest. And I agree with Ems, that you got to be careful what you say these days, something really small, which isn't intended to be offensive or something, "can be". I use the quotations, as most of the time, it's just people being really picky, they probably don't even truly find it offensive. Just want to make something out of nothing.

I think the world has gone mad, particularly with the use of interactive whiteboards in schools. We now have them in nearly every room, even ones that aren't taught in very often. I think a few of them were stupid enough as the teacher just seems to pull a load of resources from the net, show it, then expect you to learn it all. It seems an invitation for teachers to be lazy. I'm sure I got more benefit from lessons before all of that.

White boards are definatly ways for teachers to be lazy they can come up with one lesson then show it to all their classes and just change it slightly for the next yr.

Some classes they are a benefit so they teacher can show a short animation to explain something or demonstrations in ICT

Whiteboards are ways for teachers to be lazy? I would beg to differ.....

Interactive whiteboards are a useful teaching aid. Erm....they may help teachers find resources etc...quicker than say getting a book, then having to scan the contents, but I dont see how that would make a teacher lazy...:hmm: The teacher has still to plan, and teach the lesson!:p

Also I think one of the reasons for being soooo PC is fear.....which is down to the blame culture we have in this country.

I think we have I mean, at school no one really is but sometimes there will be the odd one that says " You cant say that its not PC" in a jokingly kind of way cos they think that there is too much PC around now.
But then again the only reason I think its come about is becuase too mnay people these days use words in the wrong sense and many words have become used regulary as insults.

Not quite sure what whiteboards have to do with political correctness, as I can't see anyone finding them offensive for them being "white" boards.

Plus, I really don't see how they can mean a teacher is lazy. A teacher still has to sort lesson plans, ensure that those lessons are directed in a way that the pupil understands what is being said etc, and they still have to mark the work that is handed in by the pupil apart from other things.

If, you are saying that whiteboards cause laziness, I don't think, personally, that you have a full understanding of what teachers have to do in preparation of ensuring that you are receiving the education that you need in order to pass your exams and ensure a future for yourselves really. Plus - the same could be said for those pupils that use the internet for research for their homework etc couldn't it.

It's a shame that, in the democracy we live in, we can't say what we feel/sing nursery rhymes etc without the fear of offending anybody.

I'm not sure if the is PC... My 2yr old niece is toilet trained during the day and wears knickers to nursery. One day she had an accident, her mum had sent her changes of clothes including knickers but the nursery couldn't put her in her own underwear because "they're not allowed." So they put a nappy on her. That doesn't help her or her parents in t-training. If they're allowed to put a nappy on, provided by the nursery, why are they not allowed to put her a pair of knickers on? What's the difference?

I think its a fear of the nursery staff being sued probably.. but i remember when i did work experience in a nursery a few years ago, my friends son had an accident and they had to call her up and get her back again so she could sort it. It just seemed a little wierd that shed put him in nuresry so she could work.then couldnt...

the world has gone mad, nursery rhymes have all been changed, tv programes are deemed not politically correct enough to be shown. who are these people who are changing nursery rhyme names etc i would love to meet them and tell them to lighten up!
