Hairspray
Hairspray, New Line Cinema's upcoming film version of the Broadway smash, is currently in production for a July 20th release.

The film will star newcomer Nikki Blonsky as heroine Tracy Turnblad, who helps to integrate a Baltimore dance show and wins the heart of Link Larkin in the process. Hairspray's star-studded cast will also feature John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma Von Tussle, Brittany Snow as Amber Von Tussle, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Elijah Kelley as Seaweed, and James Marsden as Corny Collins.

Produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who previously brought Chicago to the big screen as an Oscar-winning movie musical, Hairspray will be directed by Adam Shankman. The film will feature a screenplay by Leslie Dixon, who will adapt it from Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell's original book, as well as a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who will contribute new songs to their existing Tony Award-winning score.

Abbie I also got HAIRSPRAY for Christmas , I thought it was cute,I see that Zac Efron was in it as well,, interesting..I thought he was crap in the HS musicales he was over doing the lip sync...just my 2 cents worth.....I loved Queen Lafit and John Travolta,, about pooped in my pants when I saw Christopher Walken "dance" LOL

Only just got this on dvd (was supposed to get it for xmas but my mother forgot to buy it ) It's quite strange at first but it suprisingly turns out to be quite a good film.

John Travolta as a woman is rather strange but it actually works. Songs are fab, would have to say my fave is "without love" or "cant stop the beat" but the others are good too

Zac is rather gorgeous as always....the hair is a bit strange but can totallyy over look that because he is rather hot  You have got to love Queen Latifah in this too.

I think Wilbur is a strange character though, not sure if i like him or not really

Hairspray creator John Waters has been hired to write the story for a sequel to the hit 2007 musical.

Director Adam Shankman plans to return for the second film, along with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Shankman told Variety: "I never thought of musicals as franchises, but it certainly worked with High School Musical, and the idea of working with that cast again, and creating new material and music, is a dream come true.

"John (Waters) has such an original and extraordinary voice; we all can't wait to see what he has come up with."

Waters originated Hairspray as a movie in 1988. It subsequently became a stage musical before being brought back to the big screen last year.

I have a problem with sequels,, some times they should leave a good thing alone,, but hey who am I to tell them what to do LOL Not all movies and their sequels/or spin offs have been a success..
But I do wonder if the same cast will return ??? Since the "kids" were already pretty much grown up, and U can't change John travolta or Christopher Walken ( he has gotten scarier looking as he gets older )
Whatever John Waters churns out I am sure it will be interesting,,, onwards and upwards :D

Dimarco ,, the movie is really cute,,John Travolta is hilarous ..the dance numbers are cute and energic..but I HONESTLY hand on heart can not see the sequel being its equal :searchme:

Aww I don't think this ill happen. Like Jodi said, leave good things alone.
I sooo enjoyed the first Hairspray, loved it. One of my fave films and all that and I cannot slate it at all... I jsut think they covered the point in one film... what else could they possibly do with it?
I can't see it being as good as the first.. but I suppose we'll jsut have to wait and see :)
