EASTENDERS has suffered a new blow — being left off the shortlist for a prestigious best soap gong.

Rival ITV1 shows Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The Bill will get a clear run as nominees at next month’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards.

The snub comes after critics slammed EastEnders for boring plots and acting.

Recent depressing storylines in the BBC1 soap include Honey and Billy Mitchell discovering baby Petal has Down’s Syndrome.

Last night, an EastEnders source insisted: “We’re fine — we won the National TV Award.”  :crying:

Oscar winner Dame Helen Mirren is up for best actress for Prime Suspect.

And Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are jointly nominated for best presenter. :cheer:

It's no surprise that they have been left out of these awards with some of the boring storylines they have had recently. The real test will come when the soap awards are announced and whether they win anything there.

That doesn't surprise me - great news about Richard, Jezza and James, and Dame Helen - lets hope she adds this one to go with her Oscar.

Not even Winston? Surely he must be up for an award of some sort?

Winston for Best Actor, although that would seem like a raspberry award for Winston, as competition for this award is rather flat.
