EASTENDERS has suffered a new blow — being left off the shortlist for a prestigious best soap gong.
Rival ITV1 shows Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The Bill will get a clear run as nominees at next month’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards.
The snub comes after critics slammed EastEnders for boring plots and acting.
Recent depressing storylines in the BBC1 soap include Honey and Billy Mitchell discovering baby Petal has Down’s Syndrome.
Last night, an EastEnders source insisted: “We’re fine — we won the National TV Award.”  :crying:
Oscar winner Dame Helen Mirren is up for best actress for Prime Suspect.
And Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are jointly nominated for best presenter. :cheer:
