View Full Version : Coronation Actor leaving after 5 months !
One of Coronation Street's newest characters has sensationally quit the soap after only five months on screen.
Sean Gallagher, who plays Paul Connor on the Street, is understood to have taken the decision to leave after a heart-to-heart with executive producer Steve Frost.
The 40-year-old actor's character will be killed off as co-owner of knicker factory Underworld this summer in a dramatic storyline that will place his family at the forefront of the Weatherfield soap.
Speaking to the News of The World, Gallagher revealed: "Working on Corrie was everything I hoped for and more. But I like variety and I'm looking forward to taking on some new roles."
Frost confirmed: "Through discussions with Sean it as been agreed that he will be leaving the show at the end of his current contract.
"We are working on a very dramatic exit storyline that will propel the Connors into even more explosive plotlines throughout the rest of the year."
Gallagher's character is expected to be killed off in Underworld itself, but it is not yet clear how he will meet his end. The fate of his on-screen wife - glamourous Carla Connor - now has a question mark hanging over it.
The Connor family joined the soap in July last year, making their first appearance as a unit in September. Carla - played by Alison King - first appeared at the beginning of December.
How blooming ridiculuous, five months is pathetic, and he hasnt even been in it that much yet!
I just hope the fabulous Alision King stays in at after this idiot leaves!

She is, but she's a bit bland, much like her brothers. Michelle's the best of the lot but hardly a diamond. What will probably get them going is a gritty/meaty storyline. Alas, it is too late for Paul Connor now.
Connor's a gonner!
I thought 5 months isnt long enough to make an impression. I agree about Alison King though, i hope she stays.

I'm surprised he is leaving so soon as the connors haven't had much time to settle into the show to get any gritty storylines yet, but he must have his reasons. Good luck to him let's hope he doesn't regret leaving the show so early.

Yeah i really hope Alison stays too, i actually quite like Carla, it's wether she will still be as close to the other Connors once Paul has gone. Surely though she might end up owning half the factory due to her being his next of kin.
I am absolutely gutted not to mention shocked as for me Paul Connor is my favourite Connor and personally I think he is absolutely   , his character was developing nicely (Witty, Charming, Caring, Warm, Loving, Playful, Cheeky, Moody and at times we saw a bit of ruthlessness in him) he also has some lovely facial expressions. He's the backbone of the Connor family, the father, brother, uncle and loving husband all roled into one, don't know how Liam, Michelle, Ryan and even Carla will cope without him. It is a real shame as we were just starting to find things out about the man of "mystery" and I had high hopes for the character :crying: just as I do for the rest of the family.
I can't quite understand his decision to quit a long running soap where he's character, a popular one at that, would become more and more central and would be in the forefront with the rest of the Connors with big storylines and therefore would more than likely end up being in the soap for several years. I just guess Sean is one of those actors who doesn't do "long term", surely he must of known that there was a pretty good chance of him being exactly that when he joined? Maybe he had some better offers after joining Corrie or for some reason just changed his mind and decided it wasn't for him. (Maybe I scared him off:lol: )
Still for whatever reason it is a real heartbreaker for me especially as they are killing him off:crying: , again maybe a joint decision or the actor has decided this is what he wants (dreading this episode)I wish Sean all the best as I think he is a great actor but would of loved for him to have stayed in Corrie..

You'll have to change your avatar now Mrs 14. Who would be the new hottest babe? Les Battersby?

Correction I am a Miss and proud of it:p and don't be silly by new hottest babe is naturally Norris:lol:
Mr    Connor will keep his pride of place until his very upsetting depaure from the soap. Why the hell do they have to kill them all off:angry: They could of decided to kill Cilla off instead, would of been happy with that and let Mr Connor senior live and leave the door open for a possible future return.
I still cannot understand his decision to leave, still that's the world of TV, characters come and go, actors want to understandabley move on and no doubt I will move on to my next victim:D
Edit: Just read an upcoming article on the ITv website about a big storyline and dark secret regarding Mr C (think I know what this will be) and can see how everything is going to tie in together which leads to my own theory on Paul's demise:( (plus an alternative happier ending for the same scenareo LOL!!) (Sorry I just can't help mself!) This looks like it will be a fantastic dramatic and very emotional heart wrenching storyline.
So even though I am p/d off about Sean leaving I can see why and why now...
I don't think there will be any need to write Carla out of the soap, as she would fill the role of what will be later her late husband Paul's perfectly, unless there will be a reason that she won't want to..
Carla on her own though won't be the same.
