i have naturely curly hair too and i hate it! my mum bought me the nicky clarke ones (the ones with blue plates) for my bday and theyre fab, they work really well, they ones i had before didnt do anything at all but these are great! sont know how much they cost though my mum said they were quite expensive. it takes over 2 hours to straighten it though but its well worth it, although i dont do it all the time as it takes too long!

I'd kill for curly hair, every time I go to the hairdresser they ask me if I want them to blow dry it straight I dont beleive it looks like that normally. Must invest in soe heated rollers!!!

My hair is also naturally straight and id love to have curls I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. GHDs are supposed to be really good but wet to straight dont really de frizz your hir it jus straightens.

My friend has some that keep your hair straight until you wash it again, I think they are GI ones

I do like my straighteners but ive started to get bored of the flat poker straight look (very girls aloud)- started to wear mine more wavy recently - my hairdresser said that more natural styles with a bit of body in are in at the moment.

Luna

I've just bought a really good pair just new out. None of the others worked on my hair cause it's naturally frizzy

I love my hair straightened. My hair is wavy... I don't suit in curls. I got 3 straightners - Nicky Clarke, Morphy Richards, C something (not carmen girls, they are rubbish) Its all really good and get it strightened top to bottom very good!! :D

.:SpIcYsPy:.
11-05-2005, 15:41
GHD's are meant to be the best in the universe!! :D I should get that one to and add it to my collection. Don't ask me why I have so many! Straightners are meant to starighten your hair in about 15 minutes most for wavy hair...

11-05-2005, 18:11
Ive got some GHD ones, they are expensive but well worth the money. As long as you use a heat protector with them, the results are brilliant.

I tried loads of different ones before getting my GHDs and nothing worked, now it takes me about 10 minutes to straighten my hair whereas before I would spend ages blow drying it and straightening it, and it still wasnt right. Plus they only take about 10 seconds to heat up too and are really light to use.

11-05-2005, 18:26
GHD's now are really good i got a pair when they first came out and had them for two years and then they exploded....uhoh! but it was a design fault in the early ones which is fixed now so they probably are the best. at the moment of got Kado ones which are an american (i think) version of the GHD's and they are just as good.

SarahWakefield
11-05-2005, 19:22
Yes GHD'S are well worth the money you pay for them! they are excellent. best thing in thw world like i said before! i would recommend them to anyone. they must be good anyway cos all the stars use them!

I used to have really expensive ones that my hairdresser got at cost for me but they broke after a year, I bought babyliss ceramic ones to do me for now but they are great - I have really fine hair and it takes seconds to do but I just use them to straighten out kinks in my hair, not an all over job!

ive got the nicky clarke ones and theyre brill! my hair is really curly and thick and they work great and only take about just over 1hr to get my hair completely straight, which is good as other straightners i tried didnt work at all. and mine heat up really quickly, maybe yours are broken, you should take them back and ask for a replacement

they work ok , but sometimes they either make your hair look greasy 'cause of all the moisture or just make it frizzy , it depends what your hair is like though :)

I own PBM Ceramic hair straighteners.....I had to run upstairs to find that out :D
I know that they are the equivalent to GHD ones, I got them off my cousins girl friend for 50 pound as she is a hairdresser. They should have been about 100 so I was pretty chuffed.

I don't own a protector spray, so I try to use mine in moderation, I've have enough split ends already!

Sorry if that its a bit long

I did use frizz ease, but as you said, it was too expensive to get the whol range. If you do get it all it actually works on my hair

the frizz ease works on my hair sometimes but other times it makes it worse. i dont wear my hair down unless ive straightened it cos its almost like an afro sometimes lol! when i wash my hair and i leave it to dry naturally then it goes all curly and nice but if i hairdry it or brush it once its started to dry it goes all frizzy so i normally brush it when its wet and it keeps the curls

yup mine is exactly the same 'cause you dont know if its going to work or not 'cause if it does then it will go nice if you leave it naturally but sometimes it goes bit and fluffy when you leave it to dry narurally with frizz ease i had my hair down ones 'cause i thought it will go nice 'cause of the frizz ease but it went wild when i was doing a show .

If youve got blonde hair which i have the toni and guy blue shampoo for blondes is brill, bit scary putting dark blue shampoo on blonde hair but it really tones it and leaves it shiny.

my word of advice- as a supposed straightening freak, USE HEAT DEFENSE SPRAY and even more importantly DO NOT ALWAYS STRAIGTEN UR HAIR. i hated my hair before- it was frizzy, thick/bushy- then i discovered the wonders of mousse and although its thinner now I DO NOT RECOMMENT USING THEM 24/7!

I always straighten my hair but in an hour or so it starts to go all kinky. All the other girls have dead straight hair and use GHD's and so does my friend but her hair goes kinky along with mine but everyone else seems so light, wavy, dry but smooth and silky. It just flows in the air lovely but ours goes kinky however much we straitgten it!! Its really annoying!! Help!!

mousse makes my hair worse , it makes it even more bushy and harder to straighten it is good to use on me thought if im going to leave it to dry naturally though 'cause it goes very curly but nice .

what is it when you have your hair relaxed ?

It basically changes the structure of your hair from tight little curls to straight. It is permenant and you have to go back every three months to get the new hair relaxed as that will be curly. I have been having it done since I was 11

Omg , why do you have to straighten your hair if you have it relaxed would your hair still be wavy ?

When it grows the new hair would be. It doesn't change your DNA or anything!

kat 4 alfie
23-07-2005, 12:47
oh thats ok but it will probs muck up your hair and get it all split endy like dying it does to it .

Abi
23-07-2005, 12:49
It would dry out a lot more i guess, and i guess you would get lots of split ends, but if you hate your hair, then that can be easily solved by conditioning and regular trimming

Bad Wolf
23-07-2005, 12:55
only bleaching really causes split ends- if you use a good conditioner it shouldnt really happen. straightners wreck your hair, but there are other factors

it sounds mad, but since i moved to Leicester, my skin and hair get dry easy- i'm using moisturiser by the bucket- its to do with the water, either hard or soft- i cant remember which way round it is

Abi
23-07-2005, 13:04
I have hard water cause of being in greater London, so when i go into soft water areas, my hair literally puffs!

Dr. Tangliss
23-07-2005, 15:01
So, is permanent straightening only for certian hair types or can it be used on all?

Abi
23-07-2005, 15:02
I think on all, but you still have to use straighteners and have it re-done every 3 months

Dr. Tangliss
23-07-2005, 15:05
Great!! As my hair is strange. When it's wet it goes very curly. However, if I leave it to dry naturally, is puffs up and goes wavy! I really hate it when that happens. But as my hair is so thick, it takes me ages to get it how I want it, and when it's hot it's awful.

I have noticed that a local hairdresser is now offering the service, so I am going to take a walk, when I am better, and find out more about it:)

Abi

yeah go for it

Watch the price though, it might be expensive- i'd look at several places to see if it is a resonable cost

Dr. Tangliss
23-07-2005, 15:12
That's true, especially as my hair is so thick, they may bump up the price. I get that quite a lot

Abi
23-07-2005, 15:16
really? I have thick hair and they dont. I guess it depends on the amount of customers they get, because if they have loads and they spend ages on your hair then they might be missing out on other customers so charge you more

Haveing said that, its not very good, because you cant help it is you have thick hair

Dr. Tangliss

I agree. I get annnoyed because, I can't change something I was born with:mad:

i have really thick hair and the only thing that will work is the really thick ghd ones (designed for afro hair)

Dr. Tangliss
23-07-2005, 15:28
The thin ones work on me, but I have to spend about 2 hours on it, lol!

Everytime I go to a hairdressers, I always hear the same old, 'I have never come across hair as thick as yours'. It's getting too repetitive now.

I've got thin dead straight hair. I wish I had really curly thick hair you can do so much more with it

Dr. Tangliss
23-07-2005, 15:32
I wish I had thin hair. One good thing about thick hair, you don't have to wash it evry single day, but that's about it. Well, for me it is.

So, is permanent straightening only for certian hair types or can it be used on all?

Its for Afro style hair really.

o that sound good im gonna get it done ive been wonderin if there was a sortof perm thing that you can do but it straightens ! do ya know how much it costs every time ?

Its costs anywhere from £25-£25 a turn. Once you start you cant stop. You do have to go back for new growth though. It is mainly for Afro hair as you cannot just straighten that, unlike loose curls

I know its not that amazing that some people have thicker hair than others. Thats why I am getting GHD straighteners though as it makes hair SO flat

straightening damages and make your split ends worse and even causes them so i would think relaxing it would be worse and it would cost quite a bit going to the salon to get it trimmed every 2 weeks or what ever 'cause i only go once every month now but i already condition my hair most washed so that wont be a problem .

Tamzi
23-07-2005, 16:27
Relaxing hasn't damaged my hair at all and my hair doesn't get split ends really as I wear it in a bun to protect it so no trimming required. I only go to the salon every 3 months for a relax and I wash my hair 3 times a week to keep it in great condition. It really works for people with Afro hair

kat 4 alfie
23-07-2005, 16:46
for the people who have had it done what do they (the hairdressers) actually do when they relax it ?

Abi

I'm sure thats already been answered in this thread somewhere....

23-07-2005, 19:30
sorry i havent seen it ! and theres loads of pages so its hard to catch up

Abi
23-07-2005, 19:31
It basically changes the structure of your hair from tight little curls to straight. It is permenant and you have to go back every three months to get the new hair relaxed as that will be curly. I have been having it done since I was 11
xxx

This is the bit

They do it with chemicals

kat 4 alfie
23-07-2005, 19:35
i knew about that i just wanted to now how they actually did it though and what they put your hair in basicly and how long it takes

Abi
23-07-2005, 19:37
oh right sorry

Well perms take a couple of hours, so i guess this would be pretty similar

kat 4 alfie
23-07-2005, 19:49

Abi
23-07-2005, 19:49
If your serious about wanting it done, then i'd go chat with a hairdresser. it might not suit your hait type

kat 4 alfie
23-07-2005, 19:52
yeah ! 'cause its made aspesially for afros isnt it . mine is naturally very curly so do you abi or anyone els think i will be able to have it done ?

Abi
23-07-2005, 19:53
Probably, but as i said i'd ask your hair dresser

kat 4 alfie
23-07-2005, 19:55
yeah best asking the profesionals

Abi
23-07-2005, 20:09
I say this because my friends have dyed their hair at home and havebeen allergic to it, or have done something wrong to make it go horrible. If they had gone to the hairdressers and spoken about it then they might not ahve done it wrong.

plus you might not be able to have it done, or your hairdressers might not even do it

Dr. Tangliss
24-07-2005, 08:20
When I had my hair coloured, I had to go for a patch test, in order to determine as to whether or not I would have an allergic reaction

Tamzi
24-07-2005, 08:51
yeah ! coz its made aspesially for afros isnt it . mine is naturally very curly so do you abi or anyone els think i will be able to have it done ?

You'll have to check if your hair can take it. What they do basically is check your hair to see if it would be able to cope. When you go to get it done they comb your hair through and apply a protector throughout the scalp so the chemicals dont burn it. They then apply the chemical and it will be left on for about 15-20minutes. It will then be washed off and your hair will be properly conditioned. They then blow dry and tong it. After about 4 weeks you go in for a steam and every 3 months you get a relax done again. You are also unable to wash your hair 2 weeks before the relax as the chemicals cling to the dirt.

My hair is naturally dead straight. But beacuse the way i've had it cut and the layers in it it always flicks out and and goes all horrible. its still straight until you reach the layers so now i have to keep straightening it!!!

I used to do it everyday, but it damages your hair so much i only do it when i know i am leaving the house. i dont see the point in straightening it if i am just gonna sit in doors all day seen by no one but my family. lol. my hair even stays dead straight until i wash it, unless i put it up and get a big kink!

Once this is so embarssing but id straightened it the day before and i was in such a rush that i never even brushed my hair the fololwing day and it looked fine beacuse it was still straight and tangle free. weird i know!lol.

Straighteners are just great!

That is exactly what happens to me! And you really have to starighten the layers- especially if i have a pony it goes all puffy! I dont use them all the time though! I've got babyliss ones they are a bit rubbish!

I have ghd's i spent £105 on them, which is quite alot but i can assure you it is really worth the money, if i rush i get kinks but when i do take my time it will stay straight for a long time!
