Those 0870 numbers

I am fed up of paying the vast amounts of money it costs to ring these 0870,0845 numbers etc. You ring get up on hold and then when you do get through, they keep you talking, WHY to make money ofcourse. Most of the companies, we have to contact have a 0207 or 0208 number but they usually give you the premium rate number instead. Well not anymore,I have found this wonderful site you put in the company etc and it gives you the 0207 or 0208 number for that company.

I agree about premium rate numbers, but in defence of 0845 numbers where there isn't a "press 1 for such and such, then press 2 after" and so on till after 5 mins when you finally talk to a human, we were looking into an 0845 number for our company, simply to hide our location. We take our business nationwide, but if people saw where we were based, it could well put people off of using our services.

Thanks Hazey this is a great site. I have all witheld numbers barred from my home telephone. I still get the odd one slipping through on an 0870/0845/0800 number. They usually want to sell me something. Now I can check who they are and decide if I need double glazing, a new kitchen, life insurance or a mobile phone

Do you have the TPS service in Ireland Alan?? Its a good one over here as if you are registered for it, they don't phone you and if they do, and you tell them you are a member they run scared as they aren't allowed to contact you by law if you are on the register. May be worth seeing if they have something similar over there.

If they ring asking to do market research tell them you work in MR. They can't ask you anything if you work in MR. Same if somebody approaches you in the street.
TPS is really good. We have it and nobody rings us asking if we want to buy a phone or if we need double glazing.
You can also get premium numbers blocked as well. Only problem is, if you like to vote for X Factor, Big Brother etc you can't cos the numbers are blocked.
