Five Life has acquired the multi-channel rights to two of Britain’s most popular dramas, Bad Girls and Footballers’ Wives.
The deal was negotiated between Katie Keenan, deputy controller of acquisitions at Five, and Tom McClelland, sales director at Screentime Partners, the distribution company recently acquired by Shed Productions, who produced both shows.
McClelland, said: “These two iconic Shed dramas have generated huge audiences in the UK and around the world over the last few years. We are very pleased to reach a deal with Five Life which will allow British viewers to continue enjoying them.”
Both shows will be broadcast in the spring, beginning with series four of prison drama Bad Girls, and series one of Footballers' Wives.
Nick Thorogood, controller of Five Life and Five US, said: “Bad Girls and Footballers’ Wives are terrific dramas; groundbreaking and great fun - perfect additions to Five Life where we have already brought our viewers a rich mix of drama and entertainment.“
Though both series' have ended on ITV1, US network ABC is planning an American version of Footballers' Wives, which will be a co-production between Shed and Touchstone Television. The show clocked up five series in the UK.
Bad Girls finished with its eighth series and a Christmas special in December. The second series is currently being shown on ITV3.
