This thread can be used for General discussion of Soapstar Superstar which will air on ITV1 daily from Friday 5th - Saturday 13th January 2007.

These are the litle snippets given by Inside Soap

HAYLEY TAMADDON - emmerdales Delilah Dingle
She says - I think ill handle the judges quite well but if they say i have fat arms ill cry.
Inside Soap Says - She may be little, but her years working in musicals have made her a vocal powerhouse.

LEON LOPEZ - Brooksides Jerome Johnson
He says - " My Musical influences are Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Im really excited about being on the show, and cant wait to perform on stage. Im sure the other contestents are really talented, but im looking forward to the competition - and id be lying if i said i didnt want to win!.
Inside Soap Says - Leon has serious star quality - but is it enough to propel him to first place.

ELAINE LORDON - Eastenders Lynne Hobbs
She Says - I;ll be doing a lot of low songs as i have got a very deep voice - deeper than Rod Stewards!. I have an ecletic taste in Music, anything from Robbie Williams to The Jam. I think my friends and family will find this funny, and im sure they will do lots of clapping for me in the audience.
Inside Soap says - A bit of an outside chance.

ALAN FLETCHER - Neighbours DR Karl Kennedy
He Says - Im in a band called Waiting Room and we do our own material as well as covers. I find singing and acting go hand in hand - both are about interpreting a story. Im not scared of the judging panel, i have been an actor 30 years, with plenty of bad reviews along the way. Inside Soap Says - It will be a bit like your dad doing Karaoke but the mums will love him.

TUPELE DORGU - Corries Kelly Crabtree
She says - i love Beyonce Knowles style and my two favourite artists are Corinne Bailey Rae and Shirley Bassey. My family and friends are really excited about the show though i reckon my folks will also be nervous for me. Inside Soap says - She has a big personality but will Tupeles voice match up.

MARK FURZE - Home and Aways Ric Dalby
He Says - Music is a big part of my life, but i have had no vocal training. Im into classic heavy metal but really respect Jamie Cullum. Its probably the most terryfying thing i have ever done. Inside Soap Says - Mark is handsome and talented - the girls will sure be voting.

GEMMA ATKINSON - Hollyoaks in the city Lisa Hunter
She says - I like alot of Pinks music, and my singing style is quite simular to hers. Hopefully im going to surprise a few people.
Inside Soap Says - sassy, but not as high profile as the others.

MATTHEW WOLFENDEN - Emmerdales david Metcalfe
He Says - My forst singing experience was a musical version of Romeo and Juliet. I saw Barbara Windsor sitting in the front row. It was terryfying. I think my voice lends itself well to rock. Inside Soap Says - If Matthew sings half as good as he looks we will be onto a winner.

JANE DANSON - Corries Leanne Battersby
She says - My music collection ranges from slushy Ballads by celine Dion right through to Snow Patrol
inside Soap Says - If she proves herself as feist as Leanne, Jane could go far.

ANTONY COTTON - Corries Sean Tully
He says - Ive actually got a recording of my earliest singing performance, me and my brother belting out Away in a Manger when i was three. I sang with a lisp !!. Inside soap says - as sean Antony can do no wrong, the viewers will lap him up.

VERITY RUSHWORTH - Emmerdales Donna windsor Dingle.
She says - Ill be going for exciting performances and do a lot of jigging about. Ive been practicing strutting and i will definalty give it my all. Inside Soap Says - Veritys one to watch. this talented girl could end up surprising us all.

Sequels to reality shows rarely surpass the orginal. Look at big brother, brilliant first series, every one after that just got worse.

I think Sean would be a brilliant winner, I think he'll be amazing on stage.
Oh its just been announced that the winner takes £50k for their charity. Thats good.

What did everyone think to tonight's show? There weren't any acts that really stood out for me. Elaine was awful, she deserved to go.
What were the wardrobe and make up/hair departments thinking? Some of the acts looked ridiculous. Gemma's hair was stupid.

I missed some of it, but i really liked the guy from Emmerdale Matthew i think his name is. Alan is just a legend. On the little snippet you get on the voting, i thought Leon, Verity and Hayley sounded good, i'll have to try and catch it tomorrow.

Alan Fletcher was great i agree. I tink he will be in for a long time. I thought that Hayley was good as well especially since she opened the show. Elaine definatly deserved to go. She was shocking. Tupele was better out of her and Jane.

I really think that they used the X Factor stylists. They need sacking.

I don't think Mark has a great voice, I think his looks will carry him forward more than his voice.

I thought most of them were good tonight, Alan was amazing i was nearly welling up! Loved Gemma, Hayley, Matthew and Leon again. Mark was good, but he messed up on the words, don't think the judges picked that up tho, so he did well to cover it.

I thought she did well with that song, it is really hard to go out and sing something like that, with no music and the different key changes all the way through.

I kept flicking between the two of us on BBC 1. From What i saw Leon was really good cant believe he is in the botom to. There are a lot worse singers that should go. Verity comes to mind. I like Hayley as well, and Alan.

I noticed the Mark messed up afew times, he missed out words and add some in, I'm not sure who i want to stay in tonight therre both so good and some good songs for them to perform. I'm really Hayley, she reminds me so much of her character, hope she does well. Looking forward to hearing Gemma singing I Love Rock and Roll as well.

god, is anyone else getting really annoyed by Gemma? she basically said tonight 'i could have sung it better in a different key, but then i wouldn't be able to wiggle my bum and pout so much, so i decided against it' and the judges only ever talk about how good she looks and never about her singing!

not surprised to see verity and Tupele in the bottom two as they were the weakest of all the singers. Once again I had a limp in my throat listening to Fletch singing. He is going to be the dark horse of the competiton.

For the 1st time since it started I watched it all the way through last night and the ITV2 show (normally caught snippets) Can somebody tell me how or what Martine McCutcheon is doing on the panel, she is a joke, can't make a constructive comment, "I feel for the competitors, before they go on" yeah I bet you do, Cilla Black was better last year (and I dont like her) at least she has experience of singing etc.. Martine, one hit record, a couple of albums that did nothing, Oh yeah My Fair Lady in the West End, only trouble is she was sick for most of her run..

I remember reading in the papers that the soapstars were "outraged" that Martine was on the panel as she used to be an ex-soapstar herself. She used to play Tiffany in Eastenders.

i was watching soapstar superstar on sunday or monday night and i pressed the i button on sky remote and it came up soapstar superstar ................. presented by fern britton and vernon kaye (i think). isn't that a bit weird.

didnt think mark was as good tonight as other nights because the music kinda drowned him out on livin on a prayer, Anthony was amazing singing mad world especially when he had no real music to help him with tuning and to hide any mistakes i thought it was really good. But on the whole i like mark a lot - very cute!
Gemma atkinson looks like she has been slapped in the face with a wet fish, there's no enthusiasm there, hardly ever smiles, although she can hold a tune quite well, didnt like the pink medley though

As it is the semi final tonight will they still be allowing the evictee to save a fellow contestant, giving them a gaurenteed place in the final??? If this is so then which ever corrie star doesnt go tonight the other will be in the final for sure. Which is harsh because neither is a superstar and i think both Haley and Mark deserve to be in the final. Anthony can not sing! and Tupele is never consistant with her vocals. I cant remember if they allowed the perosn who went out to save someone and put them in the fainl this late stage in the competition. Can anyone else remember???

No, final save was last night so I think its all down to votes tonight as to who goes through. Or maybe the judges might get a say in it?

good so last night was the final save...? Lets hope so. I really dont care who goes tonight. Tupele 5 times in bottom two to me says that she isnt well liked. But the public have saved her each time. But then again if antony were to go that doesnt make tupele more liked. so then she will def go and it would be mark haley in the final.

Id rather hear tupele sing than have to go through another performance of Antony's. I could go on forever about his singing and acting skills but i'd be here all night and all tomorrow! He isnt doing anything! He cant sing all he can do is perform. If you can call it that. He is just getting on the stage and being himself! Acting the way he is as a person. Everyone else is havign to actually sing and work on themselves performing and being in front of an audience and over coming fears. Antony is just going up and being him. theres no real hard work there. Its the same with his acting skills which is a whole other matter. He is just acting as himself, he gets all the easy to sing camp gay songs and he doesnt have to challenge himself like everyone else.

Enough of me ranting about him becuase like i said i can go on all night!

As we saw last night, Tupele and Antony are facing the normal overnight vote for their chance to stay in the competition.
And, as usual, whoever is saved will go on to try and wow us with their warbling!
But after their performances, the remaining three soap stars will face another phone poll where us viewers will vote for the person we want to win.
Whoever receives the most votes will be saved, but you’ll need to vote again to save your favourite in the bottom two.
Two evictions in one night! Sounds like double trouble to us.

i dont think anthony should have even gotten this far it certainly isnt because of his singing abilities, he is still in the show because he is forever getting songs like copa cabana and people love his personality but its asinging contest not a personality contest last year when richard won he honestly deserved that, as for mark i believe he has deserved to have gotten this far he has made so much progress i mean after all half the songs he hasnt heard of but he has still came out and sang them and gave it his best shot, hayley best girl in the comp but i think mark deserves to win and i believe tupele and anthony should go tonight

How are they going to fit all this into 90mins? Two evictions and two phone polls. And each act is singing 2 songs, one of them a dance routine.

Everybody loves watching a gay guy performing camp songs.

Mark has done so well to get to the semi final considering he lives on the other side of the world and not much british music reaches there. I really want Mark to win.

Tupele to go first then Antony next, leaving Mark and Hayley in the final. I think the biggest threat to the final two is Tupele. She's been in the bottom two five times and people keep voting her back in, presumably the legions of corrie fans. She really does not deserve to be in the final.

Im not normally a fan of programmes like this but have to say Im addicted. I dont care which of the two finalists actually win. I love them both. Anthony is the better showman of the two and honestly Hayleys dresses let her down. Still she has a great personality so she will be a worthy winner too

Talking about clothing, was it me or did Tupele's outfits get smaller each night? I think the wardrobe people could have gone out the the contestants and found dresses that actually suit them.

here here about the dresses! the stylists really should be sacked after this series, there's been some truly horrible things worn. and they just seem to put Hayley in slight variations of exactly the same dress every night.

The former Corrie star – who took both the Soapstar Superstar title and Roxy Pallett’s heart last year – is back for one final performance.

And you can guarantee it’s going to be good.

Richard will be singing alongside the other boys on the final show – but we're not sure whether foxy Roxy will be cheering her man on.

And that’s not all!

To celebrate our spectacular finale, all the boys and all the girls will come together for the first time in one great, big sing-song.

Yes, the girls will be belting out Atomic Kitten’s Whole Again, while the boys will be wrapping their tongues around Boyzone’s Love me For a Reason.

You can rest assured this is going to be a spectacular finale – and it’s not one you’ll want to miss!

Soapstar Superstar's Hayley Tamaddon is hoping to hold on to her job by winning the show.

The Emmerdale actress was told before Christmas that her character Delilah Dingle will be written out of the soap, but she believes that producers will change their minds if she is crowned the winner.

Hayley told DS: "They were actually planning to axe me before Christmas until they realised how popular Delilah actually was."

Monday sees the release of Soapstar Superstar 2007 - The Album, and will feature performances from all the contestants.

Among the highlights are Emmerdale star Hayley Tamaddon's rendition of Son of a Preacher Man, Neighbours' Alan Fletcher singing Tears in Heaven, and Hollyoaks: In the City hunk Leon Lopez's version of Mrs Robinson.

There will also be group songs featuring the boys and girls, and a bonus track by last year's winner, ex-Corrie actor Richard Fleeshman.

I think he won because most of the voters where voting Corrie above Emmerdale rather than concentrating on the singing talents. Hayley was a far better singer than Antony was.

i didnt really watch it this year i got bored half way through. I think it went on for too long and compared to just the two of us it was really bad in comparasion. I only heard Antony sing once so i cant really judge but i didnt think that he was that bad when i heard him. Hayley was good as well.

I though Hayley was amazing but Antony did well, i think he improved the most as from the first night i though oh no, he'll be gone within the first 2 days as he was so nerves and that affected his signing, but by then end i thought his signing actually sounded good.

Hayley totally deserved to win in my opinion! She had by far the best voice! I don't even know how Antony got to the final! Mark was way better than him. Hayley and Mark by far had the best voices and were cheated out of 1st and 2nd place. Antony only won for his humour and energy which isnt what Soapstar Superstar is about!

Ive already ordered my copy! I loved Hayley's version of Son Of A Preacher Man! It was amazing! and all of Mark's performances were good but i wanted them to put either Livin On A Prayer or Its Not Unusual because those were his best ones!

Soapstar Superstar has been dropped from the ITV lineup despite its success during the last series.

It has been running for only two years and last year's final pulled in roughly 7 million viewers.

However, executives at ITV have decided that the show has run its course. A source told The Sun: "ITV1’s new bosses think it’s time to give it a rest.

"They feel it is a bit too similar to X Factor. We know this won’t go down too well among some viewers — but we are planning to come up with other great shows instead."

A spokeswoman for the broadcaster said: "We have decided to rest Soapstar Superstar next year. But it may well come back one day."

I'm glad they've actually axed this show - i did enjoy it, but i do agree with ITV, that it did seem a bit too much like X Factor with its format etc. Hopefully ITV will now focus on making some new decent dramas to fill its slot.
