It is £3.99 from amazon. The author is Philip Pulman, the guy who wrote the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy.

yep his dark materials are fab, as is the series the ruby in the smoke comes from "the sally lockart quartet". i recorded this so need to get round to watching it as i loved the book
