Exclusive from The Sun:
DR Who star David Tennant is to quit the show — leaving BBC bosses looking for their 11th Timelord, The Sun can reveal.
David, 35, will leave in the middle of the fourth series.
The Scot is still filming the third series of the sci-fi favourite, which is set to be shown in the spring.
He has told the Beeb he will return the following year — but will not do the entire nine-month shoot. David has been bombarded with film offers after appearing in the last Harry Potter movie.
Producers are keen to get another Scot, Trainspotting star Robert Carlyle, 45, to step in.
They are also talking to David Morrisey, who was in BBC drama Blackpool with Tennant, as well as in Basic Instinct 2.
Tennant became Dr Who when Christopher Eccleston quit after one series. David stars with newcomer Freema Agyeman in the third series. She replaces Billie Piper, who left this year.
David refused to deny he was quitting when asked earlier this month, insisting he was “non-committal” about his plans.
He joked: “From the moment I accepted this job, everyone said, ‘When are you leaving?’ A boy could get a complex!” A Dr Who spokesman declined to comment.
Thats a shame, I have quiet enjoyed David in the role, but I suppose it's best to keep the character fresh, new actors in the title role is just what Dr Who is all about.
I wouldn't like David Morissey in the role as he just creeps me out and if it were Robert Carylye I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about his role as Renard in The World Is Not Enough.
Any thoughts on who could be the next Doctor? :hmm:
BBC Denies Doctor "Quits Report
David Tennant is "committed" to Doctor Who, the BBC insists, despite a report that he is leaving the sci-fi drama.
The Sun claimed the actor, 35, planned to depart next year, in the middle of the fourth series of the hit programme.
But he was currently filming the third series, a BBC spokeswoman said, adding that any episodes beyond that had yet to receive the go-ahead.
"When a further series is commissioned, we will be able to confirm his involvement," she said.
Star cast
Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the spring, following a Christmas special featuring comedian Catherine Tate.
Freema Agyeman (l) will play the doctor's assistant
Freema Agyeman will co-star alongside Tennant as the Doctor's new companion after the departure of Billie Piper at the end of the last series.
Spooks actress Miranda Raison, Holby City's Hugh Quarshie and Ryan Carnes of Desperate Housewives will also make appearances.
Earlier this month Tennant was named the best Doctor in a poll of 4,000 readers of Doctor Who magazine, beating Tom Baker into second place.
For two years running the show has scooped three prizes at the National Television Awards.

:hmm: So is he not leaving? Or pehaps the BBC, are just covering? Either way, I hope that he doesn't leave, out of him and Christopher Eccleston, he's the only one, where I've watched the whole series. (Never seen the other Doctors.)
How can they say that he's only going to do half of series 4, when series 4 hasn't even been commissioned yet?! Theres too many things that would be ackward if he left half way through, anyway. If he did leave, he would leave at the end of a series, surely?
I mean, come on, who'd be on the boxset? And who would be in the books? :p Things like that would just get complicated if he left half way through
I'm not too sure but didnt the BBC try and deny that Billie Piper was going to leave, but then she did, my old grey matter cant remember that far back and it was only earlier this year!!!
Yeah, they did try to deny it. But at least Series 2 had been commissioned when they did it. For all we know, the show will end at the end of series 3.

we all know what papers are like they often make up this rubbish, and the bbc have obviously denied it, so it probably isnt true.
however David can always have a guess that there will be a 4th one, actors have to make plans in the future, for a show as popular as dr who its fair for David to assume there would be a 4th season. Let's hope there will be 4th season and David stays for as long as possible :)

It would be a shame if David did leave as he has grown on me. I wasn't too happy about him taking over from Christopher Ecclestone but he has done a fine job as the Dr. I have to disagree with what you say about David Morrissey Bryan, He's not creepy he's a hottie but I see him more of a James Bond or even a James Bond baddie. If the BBC are looking for a new Dr I would like to suggest Richard Armitage who is Guy Gisborne in Robin Hood and recently in the Vicar of Dibley.
If he is to leave, by true Dr Who tradition, it shouldn't be till the end of the series, whether that be 3rd or further on, if further series are commissioned. The BBC have issued a statement saying its not true, especially as a 4th series has not yet been commissioned, so thats enough for me.
