Author JK Rowling has revealed the title of the seventh and final Harry Potter book.
It will be called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The announcement was made on the writer's official website.

Despite the publication date not being known, the book is tipped to be a big seller, like the rest in the series.

Speculation about the plot has surrounded the book after Rowling admitted two characters will die - some think it could be Harry Potter himself.

'Elated and overwrought'

The title has certainly got some fans excited.

Harry, 13, from Leicestershire emailed BBC Newsround and said: "It sounds interesting, but a bit sinister."

Book chain Waterstone's children's buyer, Sam Harrison, said the announcement had been greeted with "huge excitement" among Potter fans.

"This is a wonderfully intriguing and ominous title, with all the sense of magic and adventure that any true Potter fan has come to love and expect," Harrison added.

I'm now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more

JK Rowling

The last book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, broke UK records by shifting just over two million copies on its first day of release.

Sales of all Harry Potter titles now total more than 52 million worldwide.

This week Rowling revealed how she has gone back to writing in cafes - as she did 13 years ago when starting to write about the boy wizard.

She has also admitted how she has been dreaming of the character.

Writing on her website she described it as an "epic dream" where she was Harry and the narrator simultaneously.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

In a recent web posting, she said she has been working hard on the last book.

"I'm now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more," she said.

She also described feeling "alternately elated and overwrought" at writing it and joked she cannot decide if she wants to finish it or not.

The first four novels in the series have been turned into films, while the fifth, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is currently in production and is due for release in July 2007.

Helena Bonham Carter joins the cast as the evil Bellatrix Lestrange and Imelda Staunton will play the part of dark arts teacher Dolores Umbridge.

I want the book to be realised but yet i dont want it all to be over. HOwever it makes a lot of sense for jk rowling to kill harry off because it means no other autor can write a sequal to the series

Its odd with it being the last book and the characters growing up with me as i was 10 when Harry was 10. In this book he will be really old.

If two people are going to die I wonder if one will be Harry and the other will be Voldemort.
I can't wait for the new book to come out. It will be the end of an era :( Its a shame she's only making it a 7 part series but I suppose she can't make Harry stories last forever and convincing.

I've seen a couple of theories....

One of them...the people that have "died" (if Dumbledore really is dead as there are a lot of theories etc that Snape and Dumbledore faked Dumbledores death :searchme: ) are only those that have actually said Voldemorts name. So if thats the case, apart from Harry, only Prof Lupin and Hermione are the only two other characters that aren't worried about saying his actual name...

Another thought I've seen, is from when Prof Trelawny first came onto the scene. It was holiday time at Hogwarts and everyone was sat down to dinner and Trelawny shouted out for Harry and Ron not to stand up because they were dining at a table with 13 sat at it. She replied, "Thirteen to dine, First to rise is the first to die" and both Harry and Ron ignore her and both stand up at the same time.

Could this be the case?! :searchme:

Harry Potter's arch enemy, Lord Voldemort, is the odds-on favourite to kill off the famous boy wizard in the final instalment of the series.
Bookmaker William Hill said Potter punters are throwing their weight behind Voldemort - and even Harry himself - to bring about the demise of the schoolboy.
The revelation comes just days after the name of JK Rowling's long-awaited seventh book was revealed as Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.
Now that the title is in the open, the bookie said Potter fans have switched their attention to the question of who might kill the popular magical hero.
Multi-millionaire Rowling recently hinted that two characters are expected to die in the finale - and Harry himself might not survive.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said of the recent betting trends: "JK mentioned that Harry might be killed off and the general consensus seems to be that Harry is the final Horcrux and to ensure that Voldemort dies he will need to be sacrificed."
He added: "Most of the early money has been for Harry, who has been cut from 10/1 to 6/1.Voldemort remains the odds-on favourite."

i think the boy will die - i think both he and voldemort will be killed off in the final chapter

i think dumbledore has really gone and wont be coming back (sob)

I always thought that Ron would be one of the main characters to die but I amy be wrong. If her infulence has come from LOTR then its more likely to be Harry and Dumbledore with a tear jearking finish.

Yes they are both dead, i don't see how she could bring either of them back, or why she would want or need to.

i don't think there is a date for the book yet, although i read on teletext that royal mail are already working out how to plan delivering the 500,0000 pre-ordered book's that are expected.

I don't think it will be 7/7/07 as she hasn't finished writing it yet. Add into that editing which can take a while and then publishing, I recon its going to be about september/october :(

I think RAB is Regulas Black, Sirius' brother. If you remember it was the locket in the bowl of liquid that Dublebore had to drink. Cast your mind back to book 4/5, I can't remember which. Do you remember when Sirius was cleaning out the Phoenix HQ and he came across a heavy locket that was unopenable in a cupboard? I'm thinking is it the same locket? Regulas is the only significant person in the books tht I can think of with the initials. Yes, I know he is a long time dead but it is possible.

It also means, that whoever RAB is, sombody else knows about the horcrux's. Dumbledore needed Harry's help to get into the cave, get across the water, drink the liquid and then get back across the water and out of the cave. RAB could not have done that on his own. So that begs the question, how many others know about the horcurx's?

And Dumbledore really is dead. Click here http://www.mugglenet.com/books/futurebooks/book7/rumors.shtml for debunked rumors.

Got this from http://www.mugglenet.com/books/futurebooks/book7/looseends.shtml
I edited it to include the more intriguing bits only.

Because Book 7 is going to be the last book in the series, we can assume that it's going to tie up all of the loose ends that have accumulated over the years. Here's a list of those questions that will probably be answered in the last Harry Potter book.

* Will Hogwarts open up again? And if so, will Harry, Ron, and Hermione attend for their seventh year?
* Is Snape good or evil? Where do his loyalties lie?
* What is the significance of Harry having his mother's eyes?
* Why did Dumbledore trust Snape so much?
* Why was Voldemort prepared to let Lily live after he killed James at Godric's Hollow?
* Who is R.A.B.?
* Are Dumbledore and Sirius actually dead? Update: JKR confirmed in New York that Dumbledore is in fact dead - but we still don't know about Sirius!
* Where are the remaining Horcruxes? And furthermore, was Dumbledore right about what the remaining Horcruxes are? If he wasn't, what are they?
* With Dumbledore dead, who will lead the Order?
* Is Bill Weasley a full werewolf?
* Did Voldemort go to Godric's Hollow alone the night he tried to kill Harry? If so, how do people know the events of that night?
* What was the 'gleam of triumph' in Dumbledore's eyes at the end of Goblet of Fire?
* Is there more behind Voldemort wanting the DADA teaching position so badly, or is it just because he simply wanted the job?
* How will Peter Pettigrew repay his life debt to Harry?
* If Dumbledore and Petunia were in contact before Harry was taken to Privet Drive, then what were they discussing in their letters?
* How exactly did the Potters and the Longbottoms 'thrice defy Voldemort'?
* Will the terms of the Prophecy be fulfilled? If so, will Harry kill Voldemort, or will Voldemort kill Harry?
* On her website, JKR stated that "there IS a significant - even crucial - answer" to the following question: How and why did Dumbledore have James' invisibility cloak? What is the significance of this?
* What happened to Ollivander? And since there was no sign of a struggle when he disappeared, who's side is he on? And what about Florean Fortescue - are their disappearances linked?
* If Voldemort lost his body at Godric's Hollow, then who retrieved his wand?
* Why did Regulus choose to leave the Death Eaters?
* What happened to Dumbledore's wand after his death?
* How did Dumbledore know the details of Lord Voldemort's murder of Lily - how LV offered to spare her life and how the charm that protects Harry was formed - if no one else was there to witness it? Was Dumbledore actually there to witness it?
* What went on in the period of time between baby Harry's rescue from the ruins of Godric's Hollow and being left the NEXT DAY at the Dursley's doorstep?
* What were Dumbledore and Snape arguing about that Hagrid overheard at the edge of the forest in HBP? Was it about spying on Draco, or was it something else?
* What will become of Draco, Lucius, and Narcissa Malfoy? Specifically, will Draco stay loyal to Voldemort, or will he change his mind and fight for the other side?
* Where did Snape and Draco go at the end of the sixth book?
* Assuming Hogwarts stays open, will the curse that Voldemort presumably placed on the DADA position ever be lifted?
* Who did R.A.B. get the locket from the cave with? (Dumbledore made it clear that two people were needed to get past Voldemort's enchantments) And where is the locket now?
* JKR said that someone will manage magic very late in life in Book 7 - who is it going to be? Filch, perhaps?
* When Harry was taking Occlumency lessons from Snape in OOTP, he put more than one memory into the pensieve. What other memories did he want to hide from Harry?
* When Snape is about to kill Dumbledore, Dumbledore says, "Severus... Please..." Was Dumbledore asking Snape to kill him or was he asking for mercy?
* What was the potion that Dumbledore had to drink in the cave?
* How will Harry find his parents' home in Godric's Hollow? After all, Wormtail is the secret-keeper, and as far as we know the only way to find the home would be for Wormtail to tell Harry its location.
* Do we know the full reason that Voldemort decided to try to kill Harry instead of Neville?
* How did Hagrid retrieve Harry from the ruins of his parents' house if he was not told the location by the secret-keeper?
* Now that Dumbledore's dead, who is the secret-keeper of the Order of the Phoenix? Is the spell broken?
* Is there more to the curtain that Sirius fell through in Order of the Phoenix?
* Why did Dumbledore give Snape the DADA job?
* Will Voldemort be angry that Snape killed Dumbledore rather than letting Draco go through with the job?
* When Dumbledore is explaining to the Dursley's that the magic protecting Harry will cease to operate on his 17th birthday, each of the Dursley's reactions are given, and it says that Aunt Petunia "was oddly flushed." What is the significance of that? Does she know something more?

Sorry for the long list - it was 3 times as long before I edited it! Still though, lots of questions that still need to be answered :hmm:

Just finished reading Half Blood Prince and it's occured to me that two people would be needed to get into the cave and get the horcrux (Dumbledore said it was virtually impossible for one to do it alone). The boat they used would only take the magical weight of one qualified wizard so whoever RAB is, he had an acomplice that was underage.

The last instalment of the Harry Potter saga will be published on 21 July, author JK Rowling has announced.

She confirmed the date fans will be able to get their hands on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her website.

Rowling has said two characters die in the final instalment and fans will want to know if Harry is one of them.

The Potter books have sold 325 million copies worldwide, have been translated into 64 languages and spawned five blockbuster movies.

This is the 10th anniversary of the first book of the hugely successful series being published.

Shops opened at midnight and queues formed when the last book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was released.

It sold 2,009,574 copies in Britain on the first day of its release, publisher Bloomsbury said.

The firm said it would publish a children's hardback edition, an adult hardback, a special gift edition and an audio book on the same day.

Waterstone's has announced plans to set up a special helpline for fans after Deathly Hallows comes out this summer. JKR revealed in June that two more characters would die (who she hadn't intended on dying), and the UK book chain says "this could be a similar moment to when Take That split up - there could be a lot of upset teenagers out there. We are looking to set up a helpline for them."

Who do you think are the two who will die? I can't decide between Harry and Voldermort, one of them has to die because the prophecy states that neither can live while the other survives. Maybe Voldermort dies to make it a happy ending for the wizarding world. After all, if Harry doesn't kill him then who will?
I'm not sure on the other one, maybe Snape or Hermione.

JK Rowling has spoken out about her heartbreak after completing the final Harry Potter book.

The author recently finished the seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is due out on July 21.

Rowling admitted that her feelings were mixed as she wrote the final words of the epic series, and that the sense of completion was a hard one to come to terms with.

"I always knew Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye was just as hard as I knew it would be," she wrote on her official website. "Even though I'm in mourning, I feel an incredible sense of achievement. I can hardly believe I have finally written the ending I've been planning for so many years.

"I have never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric."

I'm going for Harry and Hadrig but there will be a twist at the end perhaps we will see Harry reunited with his parents in some after life existence and we will see Ron and Hermione sobbing their hearts out along with everyone else. similar to LOTR when Frodo and Gandalf went of on the ship

Harry will return to the home of his non-magical (Muggle) relatives, the Dursleys, during the school holiday. The magical protection Albus Dumbledore arranged, which requires Harry to have a home with them, is set to expire on Harry's 17th birthday July 31.
Harry plans to visit the remains of his parents' home at Godric's Hollow. Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger plan on accompanying him on this trip.
Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour plan on getting married in August. Several of the main characters have been invited.
It is unclear what will happen to Hogwarts after the attack on the school at the end of book six, but Harry has said he will leave school to continue his battle against Voldemort. If the school reopens, new instructors will be needed for Defence Against the Dark Arts (replacing Severus Snape), and possibly Transfiguration in the event Minerva McGonagall becomes Headmistress.
Harry comes of age (for wizards) when he turns 17, and is therefore entitled to perform magic outside of school and to obtain a licence to Apparate. His friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and many of his classmates, already turned 17 during the sixth year, and Neville Longbottom turns 17 on July 30 - the day before Harry does.[15]
There is no explanation at the end of Half-Blood Prince as to the true identity of the mysterious "R.A.B.", who claimed to have stolen one of Voldemort's Horcruxes with the intent to destroy it, while replacing it with a fake that was recovered by Harry and Dumbledore.HBP Ch.28 The most likely candidate is Regulus Black, who Rowling said was "a fine guess" for R.A.B.'s identity in an interview. Also in book 5 when cleaning out the cupboards in 12 Grimmauld Place Mrs. Wealsey finds a heavy locket that she was unable to open.[16]
Because Harry convinced Remus Lupin and Sirius Black to spare Peter Pettigrew's life in the third book, Pettigrew owes Potter a yet unpaid life debt.
The quest to identify, locate, and destroy Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes will continue. The remaining Horcruxes must be destroyed before Voldemort can be successfully conquered.
Harry will have his final battle with Lord Voldemort by the book's end.

Didn't Peeves stay in book 5 that there are things worse than death? It was towards the end, after Sirius had died and Harry went looking for Peaves to ask him when Sirius would return. Peeves said that you have to do something to leave an imprint on earth to come back as a ghost. I know that in this book we find out more about ghosts so maybe it's related.

Another thing on the ghosts, aren't there four ghosts altogether? I can only remember Peeves, Nick, the Bloody Baron and I can't think who the other one is.

Just had a thought while writing this, what if Voldemort has done the same thing and plans to come back as a ghost if he gets killed?

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - usually the book title has something to do with Harry that affects him in a personal way.
Deathly - that would imply somebody dying. Hallows means "to make sacred by a religious rite." So I'll draw a conclusion that somebody will die in a religious way.

Dumbledore: back (in some form) in Book 7
The Times Online and The Observer have both released new interviews with the Harry Potter actor.

Of particular interest to book fans, the latter website provides an interesting experience Dan had with Jo during one of her OOTP set visits:
"Jo came down to the set at one point and I said, 'Oh hello, why are you here today?' And she said, 'Oh I just needed a break from the book - Dumbledore's giving me a lot of trouble.' And I said, 'But isn't he dead?' And she said, 'Well, yeah, but it's more complex...' I was like, [briskly] 'OK, I'm not gonna ask anything else!'"The interview (http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,,2008889,00.html) also includes talk on Equus and Dan's personal life. The Times article (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/stage/theatre/article1353034.ece) finds Dan discussing what he wants to happen to Harry at the end of Deathly Hallows:
"I want him to die because I have a melodramatic yearning for a death scene. And the prophecy in the fifth book says only one of Harry and Voldemort can live. Or is it that neither can live while the other survives? Oh God, what is it? The fans will kill me if I've got that wrong."

Abigail
11-02-2007, 22:31
I think I have to agree with Dan in the Times article. In order to "free" himself of the Harry sterotype, Harry has to die. Bit worried that he can't remember what the prophecy says though!

Jo going to see Dan in Equus with naked scenes. If that were me I wouldn't be able to look at him in the same way again.

Scholastic announced today that the US edition of Deathly Hallows will contain 784 pages, making it the second longest book in the series behind OOTP!

Since the US versions of the books are published in a larger font and contain chapter pictures, this should mean the UK version will be around 700 pages long.

The US version of the book will have an initial print-run of 12 million, and the publisher has also revealed that each of these copies "will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste (pcw) fiber."

The President of Scholastic Trade Publishing and Book Fairs said, "Scholastic worked hard with our suppliers and the Rainforest Alliance to secure this extraordinary amount of recycled and FSC certified paper for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As a company with an ongoing commitment to protecting the environment for this generation and generations to come, we believe producing this book and our future reprints of Harry Potter books with a minimum of 30% pcw recycled paper is an important publishing decision."

what dont they just print the exact same books - does it men they are getting 84 more pages of info than we are????

Abigail

I think the US and UK versions are slightly different, the US version sometimes contains parts that aren't in the UK version and vice versa.

They only have an extra 84 pages because they have larger fonts and pictures in. Why can't we have piccys?

Has anybody read any US version of HP?

The world's most famous wizard is seen lunging over a pile of treasure in the cover of the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series.

Potter's best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, also feature on the children's edition of the book, which was unveiled by publishers Bloomsbury.

The adult version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows shows a pendant embossed with a jewel-encrusted 'S'.

Author JK Rowling's previous six Potter novels have sold 325 million copies.

The writer had always planned seven books, each following the characters for one school year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Rowling has revealed that two characters die in the final book, prompting bookmakers to take bets on whether Potter could be one of them.

But the text on the book covers gives nothing away.

"Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task," reads the back of the adult version.

"He must leave the warmth, safety and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear the inexorable path laid out for him."

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is due to be released on 21 July.

Okey dokey, I'm going to have a go at interpreting these covers. Feel free to correct me :)

UK adults version has the slytherin locket on it (has an 'S' on the locket the slytherin's green colour). The locket is presumably a horcrux. Can't think of ny other significance than that.

UK children's version with the money kinda reminds me of Gringotts with the gold galleons. Ron has a sword in his hand - Godrick Gryfindor's perhaps? It has a red thing on the bottom of the handle - red is Gryffindor's colour.

Ron seems to be falling back in to the circle thing whilst Hermione and Harry seem to be diving forwards. Harry and Hermione also have cuts on their arms.
Hang on, just looked at the pic again and there's somebody else there apart from the trio. Look at Harry's right shoulder, there's somebody's hand there. The hand thats holding the sword looks to belong the person that has his hand on Harry's shoulder. Voldermort maybe?

Not quite sure what the pearly white things are at the bottom.

On the back cover is the castle at night with the Whomping Willow and the moon. The castle door is open and a light is shining. Is this tower the place where Dumbledore died?

On the inside of the cover is Harry's patronus, the stag, which means dementors and a circle with a image of a window reflected on it. Is there one or two snakes in the circle? I can't tell. Maybe the snake is Nagini?

US adults version we have Harry and Voldermort in a arched circle thing. Reminds me of the colleseum. Broken wood at the bottom of the picture and torn curtains to either side. Suggests a stage? There also seems to be silouhettes of people, possibly death eaters, around the stone thing. They both seem to be reaching out for the same thing.

US child's version is pretty much a close up of Harry on the adults version.

_________________________

The US versions are rubbish, they don't give much away.

Jut checked mugglenet again and it says this:
Bloomsbury also announced today that the UK edition will be 608 pages long. As previously announced, the US version of the book will have 784 pages, making it longer than GOF. However, the UK page count makes DH shorter than the British GOF (which is 636 pages long). We presume this is due to an increased font size for the US version.

Also:
Arthur Levine, the US Potter editor, spoke this morning on the TODAY show about the American cover:
"We're seeing Harry in a very interesting situation. Readers will find out exactly what the situation is.
"When I was reading it, I had both the excitement and the power of the book, and the plot, driving me forward. But I was also feeling a little sad. It's the last time."
When Levine admitted he "sobbed and sobbed" while reading Deathly Hallows, he was asked the following:
"That means someone we like dies, doesn't it?"
"Well, it means it is a very, very emotional book," he responded.

I finally finished reading the last 200 pages.. took me 3 hours  I haven't been reading in a long time but once I got near the ending I just couldn't stop reading!..

The bit about which Dumboldore said it was either Harry or Voldmort to live reminds me of Book 7.. 2 charcters will die? I'm thinking it's Harry because otherwise the books may be continued in some way... and someone else. Or something goes wrong and they die together.

Well not sure yet obviously but I guess I have to get Book 6 and see what else I find.. God I was crying loads once Siruis slipped behind the viel :( and everytime his name was mentioned :( Bad I know!

I hated it when Sirius died. Harry finally had somebody who would take care of him and love him like his parents would have done (aside from the Weasleys). And then evil Bellatrix Lestrange killed him.

I'm not sure if Harry will die. I like to live by the "good always wins out" phrase. So I'm hoping Voldermort will die and the Wizarding World will be the happy place it once was. I'm not sure who I want to die, it's so hard to decide.

I think this book is going to be so different because there won't be much of Hogwarts in it, which was what made the books interesting for me. And no Dumbledore either :thumbsdow. Who's going to help Harry? I don't think there's another wizard that can match Dumbledore's intelligence except Voldermort.

Last Sunday, we received a very, very surprising call from the Harry Potter publishers. They wanted us to have a preview of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As you can imagine, we were utterly flabbergasted. We, just like you, weren't ready to read the book, but we couldn't pass up that opportunity, now could we?

There's a catch. The publishers requested we only inform them of our thoughts on the book, and not post them online. But we really can't do that to you guys! Only a few of our staff members have so far finished it, and a little glimpse at their feelings can be read below. More will be added throughout the day. Enjoy...and shhh!

**Spoiler Alert**

"Dumbledore's triumphant resurrection, complete with the gaudy descent from the heavens on Sirius' motorbike was completely and utterly unnecessary...but at least we now know where the motorbike actually is and the significance of where it went after Book 1." -Brendan

"I couldn't believe Snape was the long lost love child of Aberforth and that goat. It explains so much, including Severus' appearance. And we now know why he told Harry to never call him a 'cow'-ard, because he was in fact part goat." -Micah

"It was great to find out what happened to Ollivander. I loved it when he walked into the Order meeting wearing a pink Hawaiian shirt, a straw hat and sunglasses and received a room full of blank stares. It was particularly funny when Lupin turned and said, 'Well, look who decided to show .'" -Andrew

"You know, I always had an inkling that there was more to Hermione than meets the eye; her immediate knack with magic, and her irregular mood swings towards supposed 'friends,' Harry and Ron. I should have known she'd switch to the Dark side eventually. I just wish she hadn't killed the whole of Ravenclaw in the process - I suppose it was just her annoyance at not being sorted there initially." -Ciaran

"Funny how things turn out, who would have thought Ron would become the ninth member of The Weird Sisters. Ron with long hair and living the rock star life? Shocking!" -Rachel

"I couldn't believe Harry slipped on a slice of carrot cake and fractured his pelvis. I thought it was uncalled for humor in an otherwise serious and superb book." -Jamie

"I never thought the wizarding world would get their revenge on Snape; however, I commend JKR for proving me wrong. The Order using spells to hold Snape down and wash his hair multiple times was the worst kind of punishment imaginable for him." -Mandie

"So Dudley's worst memory when attacked by the Dementor was being told he had to diet." - Nick

"I still laugh every time I think about Draco and those geese. I guess it's not just sleeping dragons you're not suppose to tickle." - Natalie

Only 109 days until it's released! Can't wait. I'm hoping Hermione doesn't go over to the dark side :)

Courtsey of mugglenet:
"I think this is the first time I've ever seen corporate sponsorship of a novel. I was, quite frankly, startled by Jo's decision to make Voldemort's eight (yes, EIGHT) Horcruxes be hearts, stars, and horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, pots o' gold and rainbows, and a red balloon. Even worse were the subtleties throughout when Ron would say things like, 'This Horcrux hunt is magically delicious, Harry!' Honestly..."

Found this when I was looking on mugglenet. Each of these points have been confirmed by an official JK Rowling source:-

Character Information
* We will find out something "incredibly important" about Lily Potter
* We will find out who R.A.B. is
* We will discover more about Dumbledore's past
* We will discover where Snape's loyalties lie.
* Something will be revealed about Petunia Dursley, although it will not be that she is a Squib
* Viktor Krum will return (World Book Day, 2004 interview)
* We will see a reappearance of Dolores Umbridge - "It's too much fun to torture her not to have another little bit more before I finish." (MuggleNet/Leaky Interview)
* JKR has said, "There is a character who does manage, in desperate circumstances, to do magic quite late in life, but that is very rare..."

Plot Information
* Harry will face Voldemort for the final time
* Harry will be attempting to find and destroy Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes
* Harry will return to the Dursleys' during the school vacation, but the magical protection Dumbledore arranged will expire on his 17th birthday when he comes of age
* Harry will visit Godric's Hollow
* There will be a reappearance of the two-way mirror
* We will see the wedding of Fleur and Bill Weasley
* The fact that Harry "has his mother's eyes" will prove to be an important plot point
* At least one character will die

Other
* The last word is expected to be "scar," but may change
* We will finally learn the full reason why some people become ghosts when they die and others don't
* The final chapter, which has already been written, will detail what happens to the characters that survive
* There will be no more Quidditch matches

I wonder if Petunia can do magic :hmm:
Maybe the character who does magic is Mrs Fig. There's only two squibs in the books, Arabella Fig and Filch, that I can remember.

Is Snape friend or foe? I'm not sure. I think he killed Dumbledore because he made the Unbreakable Vow to Draco's mother (can't remember her name) and he would have died if he broke it. But why did Dumbledore trust him? The explanation that was given in book 6 didn't really satisfy me. There seems to be something missing :hmm:

The British Harry Potter publisher has revealed some of their security measures to ensure the magic of Deathly Hallows is maintained until July 21st.

According to The Scotsman, the book will only be delivered to bookshops one day before the release and they will be sealed in crates bound by steel chains. Furthermore, security guards will be deployed to printing plants, and Amazon has agreed to store its copies in warehouses at secret locations.

'Deathly Hallows' Special Edition at 816 pages
Scholastic has updated their bookseller information page with a page count of 816 pages for the US Special Edition of Deathly Hallows. A description, which has been available for sometime, explains what the extra 32 pages will hold.

A fake version of the latest Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has appeared on the internet.

An anonymous author wrote a 250,000-word version of the seventh book in the series and put it up online.

Book publishers Bloomsbury have insisted that the version is bogus.

According to The Sun, only three other people other than J K Rowling have read the book - all of which are publishing bosses.

A spokeswoman for the company said: "We are aware of the internet version but it is not the real thing. People will have to wait until 21 July."

Jo Rowling has updated her website with her plans for the release of Book 7. According to Bloomsbury:

To celebrate the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on 21st July 2007, J.K. Rowling will be signing the night away at the Natural History Museum in London.

Ten years after publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the launch of this, the final book in the series, returns to where it all began: with a book, the author and her readers.

1,700 fans will have the opportunity to meet J.K. Rowling and have their book signed at the Natural History Museum. The first 500 randomly selected winners will attend the midnight reading with J.K. Rowling. The subsequent signing is expected to last until dawn. Every ticket holder will receive a free book from Bloomsbury Publishing.

Tickets to the event are free and will be available by online draw from 23rd May. The deadline for applicants is 11th June. To apply for tickets visit Bloomsbury's website.

US residents can apply at scholastic.com. Other English-speaking publishers may also be allotted tickets; keep an eye on their websites. (for the US).

Jo says, "It has been a long time since I've done a signing and had the chance to speak to readers individually, so I'm delighted that we are launching the book in this way. It will be wonderful for me to get the chance to speak to people who have already read a few chapters while in the queue!

"Good luck if you're applying for tickets, and if you're successful, I'll see you shortly after midnight on July 21st!"

UPDATE: Good news! Raincoast is now offering one Canadian fan a chance to also participate in this event! Thanks to Shoshana for the tip.

Swedish Deathly Hallows translation may give clues
Tilden, the Swedish Potter publisher, has revealed on their official website that JK Rowling has provided an alternative DH title to foreign countries: Harry Potter and the Relics of Death. The second title was released by Jo and Bloomsbury because the phrase "Deathly Hallows" is hard to translate without being able to read the novel.

Relics of Death can easily translate to dödsrelikerna, and now many are speculating over exactly what these relics are. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with this information!

Printing of DH begins in Germany
Printing of DH begins in Germany The Mirror is reporting today that initial printing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has begun at a GGP print factory in the small town of Poessneck, Germany. Reportedly, staff at the factory are searched when entering and leaving the factory each day. Furthermore, they are forced to work in "total darkness" to prevent them from reading the book. While we already know that security is stricter for this book, this seems to be a rather outlandish measure (and, well, The Mirror is a tabloid).

Scotland now under consideration for HBP filming
The Scotsman is reporting that Warner Brothers is looking into several locations in Scotland for Half-Blood Prince:

Warner Bros, which is preparing to shoot Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, has sent an executive to the cliffs and caves around Cape Wrath, and also to a sea cave close to the Whaligoe Steps near Wick, and has been in talks over filming in the north.

The producers are interested in using the caves and cliffs as part of the dramatic climax of the new film - the sixth in the series - in which the heroes wind their way along a sea-lashed coastline in search of the soul of the evil Lord Voldemort.

Sue Quinn, a London-based locations manager with Warner Bros, travelled to Scotland last month, taking a boat trip from Lochinver around Cape Wrath towards Durness, and then heading to Wick to check out the shore and caves at Whaligoe, near Lybster.

You can find a list of areas Quinn checked out on the Scotsman's website. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

I know this isn't strictly HP news but it's a good idea. From the usual place:

According to a new report today, Jo Rowling may have bookmarks bearing the face of missing UK child Madeleine McCann placed in each copy of the British Deathly Hallows.

Madeleine's father says, "There has been some indirect contact with her. We are thinking about getting bookmarks with Madeleine's photographs and getting the author's agreement. Someone like JK Rowling has got massive appeal and a Harry Potter book would be ideal."

You may remember that Jo already donated money to the reward for anyone who can help find this girl.

An update on that crazy woman who is trying to get HP books banned from school libraries:

A judge in Gwinnett County, Georgia ruled on Tuesday that the Potter books can stay in school libraries (after local concerned parent Laura Mallory tried once again to have them banned from schools and libraries). After all of these attempts in court, Mallory has finally admitted she may "need a whole new case from the ground up."

I don't get why this woman would think that a court would dream of banning HP books. It's not like the books are telling people to go out and do witchcraft (it's wizadry in the books, Laura) and kill people. It's fiction and it's not to be taken seriously! Get a life woman.

Yeah, the price is a bit extreme (about £32 I think) but lots of people are going to want to buy it, if only to read the extra 32 pages. To be honest though, it would make more sense to put the whole series in a box set type thing like this.

A computer hacker has posted on a website what he says is the ending of the final Harry Potter novel.
He claims to have hacked into the computer system at publishers Bloomsbury and knows who dies in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

A spokeswoman for Bloomsbury played down the claims, saying there were "lots of rumours on the internet."

Author JK Rowling has already said that two characters will die in the book, which is published on 21 July.

A spokesman for the book's US distributor, Scholastic, said: "There is a whole lot of junk flying around. Consider this one more theory."

The hacker - who calls himself "Gabriel" - said he posted the spoiler "to make reading of the upcoming book useless and boring."

Autograph party

Rowling told fans last month to be wary of false rumours regarding the plot.

"There will always be sad individuals who get their kicks from ruining other people's fun," she said on her website.

She hoped, however, that her readers would "embark on the last adventure they will share with [Harry] without knowing where they are they going."

JK Rowling has said she will miss Harry Potter

Rowling is to take part in a marathon overnight autograph session in London to celebrate the publication of the final book.

The author will read from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the Natural History Museum at midnight on 21 July.

She will then meet 1,700 fans and sign their copies of the book in a session that is expected to last until dawn.

The fans will be chosen in a ballot.

The Potter books have sold 325 million copies worldwide, have been translated into 64 languages and spawned five films.

The fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, will be in cinemas next month.

OOTP conference yields clue to Book 7
At Saturday's OOTP press conference in London, producer David Heyman was asked which character was referred to when they were advised by JKR not to cut it from the movie. Heyman responded with this:

"Jo reads each draft. She reads each screenplay, and she said, 'You know, I wouldn't do that if I were you. Or you can, but if you get to make a seventh film, you'll be tied in knots.'"

"Which character was it?" he was asked, but Heyman teased, "I thought you might ask that. I'm not going to say."

Luckily, however, MTV News caught up with director David Yates yesterday where he submitted. Please highlight below to see what he said because it contains Book 7 spoilers:

“It was Kreacher, actually. We took Kreacher out, and Jo said, ‘Listen guys, you don’t have to put Kreacher back, but I’m just telling you, if you want to kind of keep a thread going for six and seven, you might want Kreacher to come back.’ She basically told us Kreacher plays a role in Seven, in a sense. She hinted. We thought about it for five seconds, and he came back.”

Scholastic preserving the 'magic moment' http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,28804,1637886_1637891,00.html
Time magazine has a fantastic new article on the impending release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It examines the stringent security measures surrounding the handling of the book until its release, and how these are meant, in Scholastic's words, to preserve the "magic moment" of euphoria when the reader finally turns the first page of the book at 12:01 AM on July 21st.

Scholastic won't give out the locations of the printing plants it uses or even how many there are. The finished books travel to stores on pallets, sealed in black plastic, in trucks tracked by GPS.

But Scholastic's reach can extend only so far, and once the books are delivered, security is in the hands of the bookstore owners, all of whom sign a long, tightly worded legal agreement requiring them to keep the boxes unopened until 12:01 a.m. on July 21. "No one here sees them," says Kim Brown, vice president of merchandising at Barnes & Noble, which hires an outside security firm to guard the padlocked trucks in which it stores its copies of Deathly Hallows. "We have our fulfillment centers cordon off a special section for the Harry Potter books," says Sean Sundwall of Amazon.com. "Only a very small number of people are allowed to look at it—or breathe on it—and even a smaller number of people can touch it."

The article does, however, note that while a leak from a large retailer is unlikely, the books are simply kept in a box dubbed "HARRY POTTER" in the smaller bookshops.

Bloomsbury to launch HP box set http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6248342.stm
Bloomsbury, the UK Harry Potter publisher, has announced plans to release a box set of all seven Harry Potter books on October 1st. An article by the BBC also mentions how the firm is eager to find another hit series after Potter ends.

"Whilst Harry Potter remains a key ingredient in the group's future success, management are now having to look beyond the initial euphoria created, with new authors and acquisitions being sought."

what use is this to all those fans who already have the full set? Unless they come up with something pretty spectacular to put on the cover then not many people are going to be interested in buying another set of books.

'Deathly Hallows' virus infecting computers'
PC World is reporting a Harry Potter virus that has surfaced online. Security companies have found emails that contain an attachment suggesting to be Book 7, when in fact it infects the receiver's computer when opened. The worm creates new users on Windows such as "Harry Potter," "Hermione Granger," and "Ron Weasley." Then once Internet Explorer is opened, it redirects users to an Amazon page for "Harry Putter and the Chamber of Cheesecakes."

There are no spoilers contained in this article, as the attachment is fake.

We advise you to be safe on the internet and not to open any suspicious email from an unknown source that claims to have information on Deathly Hallows.

Author JK Rowling has said she felt euphoric but "devastated" as she penned the last words of the final Harry Potter book, The Deathly Hallows.

Speaking on Jonathan Ross' chat show, she said: "When I finished one chapter near the end I absolutely howled."

She also revealed the character of Harry was "totally imaginary" and not based on anyone else, while Ron Weasley was a lot like her oldest friend Sean.

The interview will be broadcast on BBC One on Friday night.

'Sobbing'

She was in a hotel room alone as she finished writing the book.

"I was sobbing my heart out, I downed half a bottle of champagne from the mini bar in one and went home with mascara all over my face, that was really tough," she said.

When asked about whether "scar" was the last word in the book as had been reported, she said: "Scar? It was so for ages, and now it's not. Scar is quite near the end, but it's not the last word."

She also said it had been a "a hell of an achievement" to keep the cast of all the Potter films British.

Nearly 1.6 million copies of the final Harry Potter book have been pre-ordered online ahead of its release on 21 July.

The latest film in the series, The Order of the Phoenix, had its European premiere in London on Tuesday.

The film opens worldwide from 11 July.

Can I just add my pennies worth before Harry Potter fans start throwing things at me. I haven't read any of JK Rawlings books but I have seen the films and her eldest daughter attended the same primary school that my child attends. (how's that for a claim to fame). Anyway I believe that she will adapt the story simillar to LOTR as Harry will die but will be reunited with his parents. I can understand that she has become emotional as when she wrote the first HP story it was in a cafe and her child was in a buggy. Now look at her she is a millionaire.

A lot of people on the web have been talking about the horcrux's and if Harry is one. JK Rowling drafted the last chapter of the final book several years ago to give herself an ending to work towards-last week she revealed one of the last word of the final chapter of the book would be 'scar'.

It's very likely that this refers to the lightning-shaped scar on Harry's forehead-but doesn't help readers work out whether he's alive or dead.

However, she HAS confirmed that two major characters will die at the end of the final book.

"There are deaths, more deaths coming," she said.

"A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil. They go for the main characters."

Rowling has toyed with the idea of killing off her hero so no other authors can write unofficial sequels to the original seven Potter books.

She once joked: "I can completely understand an author who thinks, ‘Well, I'm going to kill them off because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels.'"

It's possible that Harry himself is one of the six Horcruxes created by Voldemort to make him immortal-meaning that in order to finish off He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Harry will have to kill himself.

But as you'll see below, we don't buy this theory-because we've worked out what the remaining Horcruxes are.

The real question here is, would JK Rowling really want to upset her legions of fans by killing off a character beloved to millions?

We think not. Harry's just too beloved of too many readers to be disposed of in such a way.

But it IS possible that he'll lose his magical abilities after Voldemort is gotten rid of and the prophesy is fulfilled-neatly preventing any unofficial sequels without having to butcher the poor lad.

So which main character is for the chop?

We think the smart money is on Snape, who will die after Voldemort learns that he played a key role in the conspiracy against him-read more about this theory below.

Who's the second casualty? How about Hagrid-why not.

MYSTERY TWO: WHO OR WHAT ARE THE DEATHLY HALLOWS?

SINCE the title was revealed in December last year, fan speculation has raged over its meaning-and what the Deathly Hallows might be.

JK Rowling has already said: "Any clarification of the meaning of ‘Hallows' would give away too much of the story."

The dictionary isn't much help, as to ‘hallow' something is to make it holy or pure. The word is most commonly used today in Halloween and dates from the days when it was still a religious festival.

However, foreign editions of the book have slightly different titles-also created by Rowling-which shed some more light on the matter.

The Swedish title is "Harry Potter and the Relics of Death", and the Japanese title is "Harry Potter and the Secret Treasure of Death."

So it's very likely that the Deathly Hallows are a collection of special treasure items.

This fits with the plot at the end of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Harry now has to track down four treasure items known as Horcruxes, each of which contain a part of Voldemort's soul.

More clues can be found on the cover to the children's edition. The illustration shows Harry, Ron and Hermione falling away from or onto a massive treasure trove.

Gripping Harry's right shoulder is a spindly grey hand, possibly belonging to Kreacher, the Black family's House Elf-who Rowling has revealed plays a key role in the seventh book.

In the creature's other hand is a silver sword with a red gemstone mounted on the hilt. This blade perfectly matches the description of Godric Gryffindor's sword in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

In Arthurian legend, there were four artifacts known as the Holy Grail Hallows: a sword, a spear, a plate and the Holy Grail.

And JK Rowling has already mentioned Gryffindor's sword, Slytherin's Locket and Hufflepuff's cup as three key artifacts in the Potter books.

Could it be that there is a spear-like item belonging to the fourth Hogwarts founder Rowena Ravenclaw-and that these four items are the Deathly Hallows Harry must locate to kill Voldemort once and for all?

MYSTERY THREE: IS SNAPE GOOD OR EVIL?

SEVERUS Snape is the sinister Hogwarts teacher who killed Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Since Harry's first day at Hogwarts, he's never trusted Snape-who has links to the Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort himself.

But we think that the final book will reveal Snape to have actually been on Harry's side all along-and he'll make the ultimate sacrifice to enable him to fulfill his destiny.

Dig out your copy of Half-Blood Prince and look again at the scene where Snape tops Dumbledore.

The wise old headmaster is described as "pleading" with Snape-but he NEVER explicitly pleads for his life. Could he be pleading with Snape to go through with his mission and kill him instead?

The events that follow-Harry being hit with a deadly curse, Snape raging after Harry calls him a coward-are all ambiguous enough

Earlier in book six, Hagrid overhears Snape telling Dumbledore that he can't cope any more and that perhaps the Hogwarts headmaster is asking too much of him.

Harry assumes that this means Snape is cracking and will betray the Order of the Phoenix.

But the Potter books are packed with overheard conversations where someone gets the wrong end of the stick-and there's no reason to think that this one is any different.

We reckon that Snape's apparent ultimate act of evil-killing Dumbledore-was actually part of a greater plan that HINDERED rather than helped Voldemort.

Wouldn't Snape tell Dumbledore that he thought he was asking too much of him if the headmaster ordered him to kill him? It's certainly possible.

Another important clue was revealed in an interview given by JK Rowling when she was quizzed about a "redemptive pattern" to Snape's behaviour.

She blustered: "He, um, there's so much I wish I could say to you, and I can't because it would ruin.

"I promise you, whoever asked that question, can I just say to you that I'm slightly stunned that you've said that and you'll find out why I'm so stunned if you read Book Seven.

"That's all I'm going to say."

If Snape is going to redeem himself in an incredible way, it's not too hard to imagine him making the ultimate sacrifice to allow Harry to finish Voldemort once and for all.

Snape is better informed about the Dark Lord's darkest secrets than virtually anyone else in the books.

What better final twist could there be than Snape finally opting to side with Harry-even if it means losing his own life?

And let's not forget the most important thing in Snape's favour: Dumbledore trusted him. As Lupin says: "It comes down to whether or not you trust Dumbledore's judgement. I do; therefore, I trust Severus."

Dumbledore has never made a bad call throughout the first six books-and he's not about to be proven wrong in the seventh.

Snape's a goodie and he's going to die saving Harry's life. Trust us on this one.

MYSTERY FOUR: IS DUMBLEDORE REALLY DEAD?

JK Rowling has always been at great pains to stress that, even in the wizarding world, when people die they stay dead.

"You can't reverse death-that's a given. Without it, the plot would fall apart," she said in an interview way back in 2000.

"Though in Book Seven you'll see just how close you can get to the dead."

Rowling clarified that "Dumbledore is definitely dead" when asked by Sir Salman Rushdie.

However, on the set of the Order of the Phoenix film, she remarked to Daniel Radcliffe: "Dumbledore's giving me a lot of trouble."

When Daniel asked "But isn't he dead?" she clarified, "Well, yeah, but it's more complex."

Strictly speaking, then, Dumbledore is really dead and will stay that way.

But in Harry Potter there are plenty ways for the dead to communicate with the living-as ghosts, or living paintings, for example-so it's very likely he'll be making an Obi-Wan Kenobi-style return to help Harry out.

Back at the end of Goblet of Fire, Dumbledore had a "gleam of triumph" in his eyes when he heard that Voldemort had used Harry's blood to resurrect himself.

We've still not exactly found out why this is-but rest assured it will be a key part of Voldemort's eventual undoing.

MYSTERY FIVE: WHO STOLE THE HORCRUX?

AT the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a mysterious note signed ‘R.A.B.' tells how one of Voldemort's Horcruxes-objects containing his soul-has been stolen and replaced with a fake.

R.A.B's identity isn't known, but it's very likely that he will be Regulus Black-the younger brother of Sirius Black, the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Regulus was a Death Eater-one of Voldemort's followers-who tried to turn against his master at the 11th hour.

The translator of the Portuguese Harry Potter books said that Rowling told her R.A.B. was a male called Regulus Arcturus Black during a discussion about translation.

And Rowling has already said in an interview that Regulus Black is "a fine guess" for R.A.B.'s identity.

Regulus has so far not been a major character in the Harry Potter series.

But despite being mentioned only once in the first five books, his name crops up three times in book six-suggesting he is about to play a much bigger role.

MYSTERY SIX: WHAT IS AUNT PETUNIA'S SECRET?

HARRY'S unpleasant Aunt Petunia has always played a lowly role in the Potter books-but there are big things in store for her in the next book.

Rowling said back in 1999 that a non-magical character will perform magic in "desperate circumstances"-but this hasn't happened in any of the first six.

And at the 2004 Edinburgh Book Festival, she mentioned that something more would be revealed about Petunia Dursley in future.

"There is a little bit more to Aunt Petunia than meets the eye," she teased. "She is not a squib (a person of wizarding heritage who lacks magical ability), although that is a very good guess.

"Oh, I am giving a lot away here. I am being shockingly indiscreet."

However, in August last year, she stressed that Aunt Petunia will NOT perform magic.

Rowling has never fibbed about what's coming up in the next Potter book, but she has been deliberately misleading before.

Is it possible she'll be used as a conduit by Dumbledore-who wrote Petunia a letter before he died?

Or is it possible her son Dudley has inherited some magical ability down the family bloodline and is just a late-bloomer?

Either way, we reckon there is still a partularly important skeleton in the Dursley family closet that not even the odious Uncle Vernon is aware of.

MYSTERY SEVEN: WILL RON AND HERMIONE GET TOGETHER?

THE short answer is yes. Rowling said she was surprised that Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron had put things into the movie that, "without knowing it, foreshadow things that are going to happen in the final two books."

The only vaguely important addition Cuaron made was to add a splash of simmering pre-sexual tension between Ron and Hermione, which wasn't in the book.

The Harry Potter books have never been big on romance so don't expect any long, drawn-out lovey-dovey stuff.

A chaste kiss in a Hogwarts corridor is about all we'll get-but it'll definitely be in there.

i was just reading right at the beginning of the threads and i saw that people were writing about possible people who might die in the finale of Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and i wanted to put my two-pence worth in lol. my theoriue is that ron will die along with a not so popular character whom has a fairly big part such as neville and/or that harry potter will indeed be one of the two people that die but may be able to return someway or another...as much i hate to admit however, i think that it would be best to kill harry potter off as this would be the only way to truely finish the harry potter series, as if he was to live the reades will still live in hope of another book!

another thoery is that when the last harry potter book comes to the end, jk rowling will introduce a new fresh character with a new background, maybe not so dark and not so young perhaps, to continue the harry potter series under a different name and there introducing a whole new legacy of books with the same feel but different texture if you know what i mean!

"There are deaths, more deaths coming," she said.
"A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil. They go for the main characters."

Sounds like a few more than two to me :hmm:

Who do you class as main characters? Obviously, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Hagrid. Are the Weasley's, Snape and the Malfoys main characters? :hmm:

Either Voldy or Harry has to die (the prophecy) so I'm hoping its going to be Voldy then the wizarding world can be a good place again  I think Hermione might die too. I really wish Sirius was still alive, I'm not particularly bothered that Dumbledore is dead.

I remember JK saying somewhere that there would be no new characters coming into the last book. I'll try and find it.

And everybody has known about RAB since the last book, there is only one person we know with those initials. I'm reading OOTP and Sirius has just told Harry that Regulas was murdered by Voldy so maybe Voldy found out that Regulas knew about his horcruxs and killed him before he could spread the word.

Oh I can't wait for the book.

Ok, next question: Is Snape a goody or a baddie?

Voldermort has to die he's the baddy and good has to triumph over evil. But it won't be without tragedy and heartbreak. Either Harry and Snape or Harry and Hadrig will die, so before you start reading the final book make sure you all have a large supply of kleenex beside you.

I think the most interesting theory i've come across so far is this......

1. Lily and Petunia are the decendents of the Slytherin bloodline. Tom Riddles mother, Merope, had a daughter, as well as a son...Petunia and Lily's mother. Harry is therefore Voldemorts great nephew...
2. Petunia when applying at Hogwarts was discovered to be the most powerful wizard in the entire wizarding community, therefore, she was sent away...she later reveales my next spoil..
3. Lily and James were experts in Horcruxes and were obsessed with killing Voldemort. When Voldemort tries to kill Harry in the first book, Lily actually turned Voldemort into a Horcrux and split Harrys soul. You can make a Horcrux not only with evil, but with love, as well.
4. In the last book Harry does die, but is able to come back because Voldemort is Harrys horcrux...

Some very interesting theories there.

If Lily died before Harry then how could she make a horcrux? You have to kill somebody/something to make a horcrux (as far as I can remember).

Aunt Petunia isn't a witch or a squib, therefore she can't do magic or be any relation of Slytherin's.

There might be something in that. In the first one, it was said that Harry couldn't die because of what Lily did for him, but unless she did make a horcrux in Voldemort or something, I can't see how it could have saved him.

Harry didn't die because his mother's love protected him. Her protection runs through his veins and thats why in COS Quirrel's face crumbles when Harry touches him; because Quirrel was being possessed by Voldy (who can't feel love) he also couldn't stand to feel love. Voldy admitted in GOF that he overlooked the ancient magical rule of love. He couldn't harm Harry whilst he has his mother's protection and can love.

Horcruxes weren't mentioned until HBP.

Its really complicated, its amazing how JK managed to write 7 books and link what happened in the first to what happens in the last.

I was thinking, in OOTP Hermione knits hats for the House Elfs in order to free them. But as Hermione isn't their master (Dumbledore is) then how can she set them free?? :hmm:

The final Harry Potter novel could hit shelves before its official release next week.

Some shops are not expected to keep a written agreement which prevents them selling the book before 21 July.

"It's quite possible one will break the embargo," says Katherine Rushton from The Bookseller magazine. "They'd do it to be first, and for all the PR."

The book's publishers, Bloomsbury, said it had "no reason to believe anyone would want to ruin the excitement".

"If such a thing were to happen, we believe that the public would make their feelings known by not buying it from such a spoilsport retailer."

However, it added, "it is our intention to vigorously enforce the embargo if required".

The secret police are out there ready to jump on anyone who breaks the embargo with a terrific sledgehammer

Robert Webb, book seller
Author JK Rowling has also stressed the importance of keeping to the official publication date on her website.

"I want the readers who have, in many instances, grown up with Harry, to embark on the last adventure they will share with him without knowing where they are they going," she wrote.

Embargos on previous instalments of the series have generally been observed because Bloomsbury threatened to withhold future Harry Potter books from stores who flouted the rules.

This time there is no such incentive.

"Because it's the final Harry Potter, Bloomsbury doesn't have that same power," says Rushton. "It has played its last ace card."

Midnight openings

JK Rowling has amassed a £540m fortune from writing
Bookshops around the UK, many of which are opening at midnight to sell Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, have mixed opinions on whether the embargo will hold.

"I'd be very surprised if anyone sold it early," said Tim Curtis of The Little Apple Bookshop in York. "I'm not sure consumers would want it."

"People like to be part of the midnight thing," agrees Suzanne Jones of Heffers in Cambridge.

"I've got an 11-year-old who has got it in her diary and she wants to go out and be part of it."

"To buy it in the cold light of day on a Friday is just not the same."

But Robert Webb, who has run Kingsthorpe Book Shop in Northampton for the last 34 years, says it is "a miracle" the embargo has held in the past.

"It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it did get broken this time.

Hundreds of fans queued overnight to get hold of the last book
"But I think the secret police are out there ready to jump on anyone who breaks the embargo with a terrific sledgehammer."

'Spoilsports'

Harry Potter mania has led to the book becoming available in locations where you would never expect to find works of literature - such as garages and hardware stores.

It is thought that these shops - which have less to lose by souring relations with Bloomsbury - are the most likely to reveal the boy wizard's fate ahead of time.

"I don't think you'll get traditional bookshops doing that," says Rushton. "Inside the industry and outside the industry they'd be seen as spoilsports."

But the security operation surrounding the publication of the novel is so tight that anyone who does break the embargo is only likely to get a few hours head-start on their competitors.

They may also find themselves at the centre of legal action.

Everyone who stocks the book has had to sign an indemnity form, which makes them liable for damages and "other equitable relief" if they do not keep their side of the bargain.

No photos

The release date for the book was announced on JK Rowling's website
As well as setting the embargo, the document imposes stringent conditions on retailers to ensure the plot of the book is not leaked.

Retailers have to keep boxes containing the novel "in a secure area under lock and key", and they definitely must not be "visible to the public for any reason".

It is not even permitted to take a photograph of the books being delivered.

One shop-owner who will not be complying with the regulations is Mr Webb in Northampton - because he has decided not to order any copies of the last ever Harry Potter.

"There's a branch of Asda 100 yards away from our shop," he explains. "We're advising our loyal customers to take advantage of their generosity.

"They'll save three quid - which they can come and spend on something else here!"

ITV is set to broadcast a documentary on JK Rowling this winter called "A Year in the Life...JK Rowling," and some excerpts from the special have been released.

IT IS the clearest sign yet that the last in the Harry Potter series of novels will not end happily. The author JK Rowling is seen in a forthcoming TV documentary looking over the just-finished version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her laptop. She declares: "Yeah, think I've finished."

As an off-camera film-maker offers his congratulations, Rowling, 41, says: "Thank you...yeah, you don't know, it might be rubbish. Some people will loathe it, they will absolutely loathe it. For some people to love it, other people must loathe it. That's just in the nature of the plot."
Advert for SuperScotCasino

She adds, "I'm actually really, really happy with it", before bowing her head on the keyboard to exclaim: "Oh my God!"

The remarkable footage is from ITV's documentary A Year in the Life...JK Rowling which it says has been made with "unprecedented" behind-the-scenes access.

Excerpts released at STV's scheduled launch in Glasgow yesterday might add fuel to the conspiracy theory gripping Potter fans across the globe - that the boy wizard Harry dies at the end of the seventh and final novel. The rumour mill has gone into frenzied overdrive in the run-up to the worldwide release of the last Potter novel on 21 July.

Rowling has remained enigmatic about the fate of the character who first appeared ten years ago in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. However, she has also done little to dampen speculation that dark clouds are gathering over her bespectacled hero. In a recent interview, the Edinburgh writer - who was filmed finishing the last book in room 652 of the city's Balmoral Hotel - confessed she "sobbed her heart out" and downed a half bottle of champagne in one after penning the final words.

If tragedy is looming, it may well be the climax of the eternal fight between good and evil. In the documentary, Rowling describes her works as "profoundly moral", adding: "I think it is a lie to pretend that even children of 11 don't have to make moral decisions. I think it's an outrageous black lie."

The last novel in the Potter series is virtually guaranteed to become the fastest selling book in history. The publisher, Bloomsbury, is thought to have delayed final printing until the last moment possible to minimise the chances of it leaking, and the documentary follows the completed manuscript's delivery in a locked suitcase to Rowling's agent at Heathrow Airport.

It also emerges that Castle Duart on Mull is one of the real-life locations that inspired parts of the Potter saga.

Potter fans across the country yesterday had the chance to catch preview screenings of the latest film in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Glasgow's Cineol cinema showed it no fewer than 22 times and nearly all showings were either sold out or had only "limited availability".

Many critics have praised the film as the strongest of the series, and on the whole those watching in Glasgow agreed.

Rona Scott, 19, from Airdrie, said: "As we were sitting watching it, I thought 'this has to be the best one yet'. It remained pretty true to the basic plot of the books."

Martin McLeay, from Glasgow, said: "It's a lot darker than the others. There are very few laughs in it and you could see the characters were getting older. But we all enjoyed it."

IS THIS THE OPENING OF THE FINAL NOVEL?

A PRINTED manuscript in the documentary trailer shows what appears to be the opening sentence of the last novel.

When it was written is unclear; a note written in pen on the manuscript refers to a version saved on computer dated 23 October, 2006.

However, JK Rowling reportedly worked on the final draft up until January this year. Some scenes in the book are thought to have been planned by Rowling more than a decade ago.

MAGIC AT THE BOX OFFICE

HARRY Potter and the Order of the Phoenix netted magical box-office takings of just over £36 million on its first night of release.

In the United States alone, eager fans bought £22 million worth of tickets as thousands flocked to special midnight screenings yesterday.

The figures smashed the previous record for a Wednesday night opening in the US, which was held by Spider-Man 2, released in 2004.

The Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book was published on 21 June, 2003, and that day it sold almost seven million copies in Britain and the US.

The first four Potter films, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone have generated £1.7 billion in worldwide ticket sales for Warner Bros.

With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

EDIT FROM MUGGLENET:
Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

Bloomsbury, the publishers of Harry Potter, has insisted Adsa will not stock the final installment of the boy wizard's exploits, after the supermarket chain accused it of ripping off children.

The publisher sent Asda a legal warning over a press release it issued last weekend and also pledged it will not supply the supermarket chain with copies of the seventh and final book in the series, to be published on Saturday.

Bloomsbury has cancelled Asda's half-a-million copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Bloomsbury said last night that it was cancelling the supermarket’s order for half-a-million copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - one of the largest placed with the publisher - because, it claimed, Asda had not paid bills, some going back three years, on other books which it had supplied to the chain.

Asda, which had boasted that it intended to slash the cost of Deathly Hallows to £8.97, infuriated Bloomsbury at the weekend by accusing the publisher of “blatant profiteering” and of “attempting to hold children to ransom” by setting the book’s recommended retail price at £17.99.

Peter Pritchard, Asda’s director of general merchandise, said in a press release on Sunday: “It seems like Bloomsbury need to do a quid-ditch as they have sent their prices up north on the Hogwarts Express. By setting the RRP at this level can only be seen as blatant profiteering on their part.”

The release went on to say that Asda was cutting the cost to “champion the right of young readers” and that £17.99 was “twice the average child’s pocket money and £5 more than the average kids’ hardback bestseller”.

Bloomsbury retaliated yesterday with a fierce statement of its own and this morning accused the chain of "potentially libellous" action.

The publisher said: “Asda’s latest attempt to draw attention to themselves involves trying to leap on the Harry Potter bandwagon. This is just another example of their repeated efforts at appearing as Robin Hood in the face of controversy about their world wide group which would suggest they are perceived as more akin to the Sheriff of Nottingham.

“Loss-leaders were invented by supermarkets and have nothing to do with Bloomsbury Publishing or Harry Potter and we deeply regret being dragged into their price-wars.”

Last night, Bloomsbury said that it was cancelling all Asda’s orders - including the half-million copies of Deathly Hallows expected to be delivered to its stores in the next few days - until the company honoured an agreement struck between the two companies four weeks ago to pay Bloomsbury money it claims it is owed.

Minna Fry, a Bloomsbury spokeswoman, would not disclose the size of the alleged unpaid bills.

She said: “The two matters are completely unrelated. We decided today that we could not risk having arrears with anybody.”

But she went on: “The point is they (Asda) are happy to go around saying we are ripping children off.”

This morning Ms Fry defended the price of the book, saying at 608 pages long it was not an ordinary childrens' title.

An Asda spokesman said that it owed Bloomsbury £38,000 but claimed that Bloomsbury owed Asda £122,000.

He said: “That money will be in their bank account tomorrow. Customers can rest assured that they will be able to pick up a Potter at an Asda price.

He claimed: “It looks like Bloomsbury is trying to do everything they can to stop kids getting the latest Harry Potter release at a price they can afford.

“The RRP of the first book was £11.99. This one is £17.99. It’s a huge price hike.”

If this has been going on for three years why has Bloomsbury not taken legal action before now? Its not as if Asda can't afford to pay them, they are one of the four major chains in the UK (and America).

Can't see how people are going to get their copies at Asda when the order has been withdrawn. I doubt Bloomsbury will take the risk of supplying 500,000 copies when they have been in this situation before.

Sounds to me like this is just a huge publicity stunt by both parties in the run up to the release.

The dispute affected an order of about 500,000 Harry Potter books
Supermarket chain Asda has apologised for criticising the publisher of the new Harry Potter book for a "potty" recommended retail price of £17.99.

It had accused Bloomsbury of "blatant profiteering" in a press release and in an interview with BBC Radio Five Live.

Bloomsbury then cancelled a delivery of 500,000 copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but cited a row about "unsettled bills" as the reason.

However, Asda has now stressed the book will now be on its shelves after all.

It is currently advertising it for less than half of the recommended price - £8.87 - on its website, the same as arch-rival Tesco.

Many other chains are offering similarly large discounts, but independent bookshops have complained that they cannot compete with this pricing policy while still hoping to make profits.

'Long-running' row

Asda had accused Bloomsbury of "attempting to hold children to ransom" by pricing the book at nearly £18.

Before the apology was made, company spokesman Ed Watson told BBC Radio Five Live that he believed it was no coincidence the publisher wanted to stop Asda's order.

"It just seems funny that after we expose the potty Potter price hike, Bloomsbury are trying everything they can to stop kids getting hold of Harry Potter at a price they can afford," he said.

However, Bloomsbury always denied that this statement had been a factor in the row.

Instead, marketing director Minna Fry blamed a dispute about invoices had been "going on a while - going on for weeks, actually".

"We always said we wouldn't provide them with the books until that was sorted out," she added.

On the subject of the book's price, however, Bloomsbury did maintain that "at 608 pages, £17.99 is extremely good value".

The release date for the book was announced on JK Rowling's website
Now, though, Asda has withdrawn its previous statement and has apologised unreservedly.

"We look forward to a good relationship with Bloomsbury going forward, including selling the latest Harry Potter book from 0001 BST on Saturday, 21 July, and many other Bloomsbury books in the future," said an Asda spokeswoman.

And for Bloomsbury, Ms Fry added: "We are pleased that this situation has been resolved and look forward to working with Asda in the future."

Many bookshops are planning to open at midnight on Friday evening to satisfy demand for the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which will bring to an end JK Rowling's tales of a teenage wizard's adventures.

Internet 'leak'

Picture of book pages
The pictures show what appears to be a US edition of the book
With fewer than four days to go, pictures of what appeared to be pages from the new novel have been circulating on the internet.

Minna Fry told the BBC: "There have been so many fake books going up on the internet over the past four to six weeks. We have no reason to believe that these are anything other than fake either."

Meanwhile, the Royal Mail has issued commemorative stamps to celebrate the young wizard's success.

There are seven first-class stamps, each featuring the sleeve artwork from a different Harry Potter book.

And there is also a separate sheet with five stamps featuring the crests of Hogwarts School and its four houses - Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.

The Royal Mail said the stamps have "some heat-resistant ink that will reveal exciting secrets if you touch them".

Book Seven has a suprise ending
So are the words of US audiobook narrator Jim Dale, in a new interview. A further extract: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/17/books/17dale.html?_r=3&pagewanted=1&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

“Deathly Hallows,” which runs to 784 pages in the ink-and-paper version, took about two and a half weeks, working six-and-a-half-hour days, recording about 18 to 20 pages an hour, to finish. As with the other books, Mr. Dale received the manuscript only two or three days before he was scheduled to begin recording.

“That makes it impossible for me to actually read it before recording it,” said Mr. Dale, who does not possess the 13-year-old megafan’s ability to inhale the book in a weekend.

So he read about 100 pages ahead, and noted all the different voices he needed for the first few days of recording. The benefit of reading in chunks, Mr. Dale said, is that: “I don’t ever know how the book is going to end so I can’t unconsciously lead you in the direction that the book is going. I don’t know who the villain is because I am just reading 100 pages at a time.”

OOTP cast and other celebs voice theories
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Immelda Staunton, Bonnie Wright, Alan Rickman, and a bunch of other celebrities have spoken out about what they think will happen in Deathly Hallows.

Radcliffe: "One of my theories is stolen from someone else. He thought Snape is going to turn out to be the tragic hero, and I thought that was a really good idea. I think J.K. Rowling would have possibly gone down that route — but possibly he is pure evil, and we'll all just find out."

Bloomsbury forks out to keep Book 7 safe
A new report analyzes the measures taken by UK Potter publisher Bloomsbury to keep Deathly Hallows unspoiled. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/News/International__Business/10-mn_pound_security_to_shield_Potter_secret/articleshow/msid-2206188,curpg-1.cms

It is from Tuesday, however, when copies begin to be sent out to retailers, that the most crucial part of the security operation will come into effect.

The trucks Bloomsbury will use are fitted with satellite tracking systems costing up to £1,000 pounds, which will reveal whether any of the vehicles deviate from their intended route. The books are on sealed pallets fitted with alarms to prevent tampering.

A spokesman for Bloomsbury said: “we have a litigation specialist poised 24 hours a day, seven days a week to deal with any breaches. It is our intention to enforce the embargo vigorously and seek an immediate injunction if required.” While experts put the cost of all this at £10 million, the lengths to which publishers have gone are not surprising.

PRESS RELEASE:
Scholastic has recently learned that some individuals have received copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the mail , beginning on Tuesday, July 17th, as a result of a breach of the on-sale agreement by the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and shipments made by DeepDiscount.com, a customer of that distributor. We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.

We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21st.

Scholastic is especially grateful to the other retailers and distributors for their careful attention to keeping the books secure until the release time and for planning thousands of spectacular midnight parties where fans will celebrate together. And we ask everyone, especially the media, to preserve the fun and excitement for fans everywhere.

The fans themselves have made it abundantly clear that they are looking forward to going to the midnight parties, receiving their very own copy of the book and finally getting to read the book they have so anxiously awaited.

JK Rowling: "Help preserve the secrecy"
JK Rowling has made a small update to her official website asking everyone who "calls themselves a Potter fan" to help keep the plot of Deathly Hallows from being spoiled:

We are almost there! As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the web and in the press on the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very short time you will know EVERYTHING!

We, of course, support Jo's statement and ask all of our visitors to avoid spreading information about Deathly Hallows in our comments. With the book release being less than three days away, there's no point in spoiling it now.

Instead, talk about the latest episode of SpongeBob or perhaps the upcoming Hairspray film. If you need any other topic ideas, please e-mail i need something better to do than spoil the book for everyone three days prior to the [email protected].

NY Times posts early review of DH
After receiving an early copy of Deathly Hallows from an unnamed bookstore, the New York Times has posted a review of the book which also contains a few plot details.

UPDATE: In response, JK Rowling has spoken out about this New York Times review and numerous others:
"I am staggered that American newspapers have decided to publish purported spoilers in the form of reviews in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry’s final destination by themselves, in their own time. I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry’s last adventure for fans."

Bloomsbury has also addressed this concern:

The release date and time embargo of 00.01AM BST on Saturday July 21st is being enforced unflinchingly and without exception by the publishers. We confirm that all Bloomsbury’s customers in 93 countries worldwide are robustly supporting this embargo time to ensure secrecy for the children and adult readers of Harry Potter.

PRESS RELEASE:

Bloomsbury Publishing, originating publisher of Harry Potter, was extremely dismayed to learn last night about early sales in America of a small number of copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows prior to the UK, US and worldwide embargo time agreed with retailers, suppliers, and all third parties involved of 00.01AM British Summer Time on Saturday July 21st 2007.

We are aware of some speculation in the media that internet “spoilers” purporting to be extracts from the book have come from the few early copies sold. We confirm that this is not true as is clear from the press release of July 18th issued by Scholastic Inc, the US publisher of Harry Potter. The “spoilers” remain unauthenticated.

We would like to thank our customers and suppliers again for their full support given in so many different ways. We would also like to thank the worldwide media for their own observance of, and strict policing of, the embargo to preserve the secrecy of the plot for the readers of Harry Potter.

JK Rowling said at 1pm today, ‘I am staggered that American newspapers have decided to publish purported spoilers in the form of reviews in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry’s final destination by themselves, in their own time. I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry’s last adventure for fans.’

There was something about a 59 year old man I think it was, that went into a shop yesterday and asked if he could come back at midnight to get a copy. The shopkeeper said he could have it then, and put it in 2 bags so no-one would see. Then it's in the paper.

I'm on chapter 8.
