Wren Boys: Part One
Tara Fitzgerald joins the cast of the international, Emmy Award-winning Waking The Dead, which returns to investigate more dark, gripping tales of murder mystery.
Tara plays Eve, the team's new forensic scientist, who brings with her the resources of the UK's first and only Forensic Anthropology Observation Unit – or Body Farm, as it's commonly known – a unique facility providing controlled studies of human decomposition to determine time and manner of death.
In tonight's opener – the first of a two-parter – Boyd and his Cold Case team, Grace, Spence, Stella and Eve, investigate the death of a teenage boy found on a building site some years ago. Crucial evidence links the body found on the site with a badly injured teenager dumped at a hospital late one night. Boyd dispatches an unwilling Stella to dismantle a Catholic shrine close to the crime scene for evidence. The shrine and body dumpsite are on land owned by the nearby Abbey which is on a dissolution order. Boyd and his team find themselves investigating pagan and druid rituals, stigmata, Irish travellers and bare-knuckle boxing.
Trevor Eve plays Boyd, Sue Johnston plays Grace, Wil Johnson plays Spence, Felicite du Jeu plays Stella and Tara Fitzgerald plays Eve. The cast also features Daragh O'Malley as Sean Killigan Snr, Carey Mulligan as Sister Brigid, Tony Scannel as Papa McDonagh and Gabrielle Reidy as Nana McDonagh.
Special guest stars to look out for this series include: Alex Jennings, Polly Walker, Graham Crowden, Alison Doody, Oliver Ford Davies, James Fox, Jemma Redgrave, Michelle Forbes and Dame Eileen Atkins.
To complement the new series of Waking The Dead, the BBC is launching a groundbreaking interactive service which is available via broadband and the Red button. By pressing the Red button, or visiting the Waking The Dead website, viewers can discover more about the facts behind each story from the team of experts in forensic science and psychology who work alongside the production team.

Deus Ex Machina: Part 1
Khaled Ahmad, a Sudanese politician in the UK, goes on hunger strike in protest at the UK's continued refusal to hand over the skull of the "Mahdi" – a Sudanese ruler from the 19th century – originally stolen from a Sudanese mausoleum by British Forces, in the first of a Waking The Dead two-parter.
Boyd and the Cold Case team are asked to investigate the current whereabouts of the skull so that UK authorities can return it to Sudan.
At the same time, a retired MI6 agent, Sir Cyril Barrett, asks Boyd to reopen the case of Omar Jaffiri, an Iraqi refugee found murdered in his London grocery shop 20 years previously. Barrett tells Boyd the two cases are connected. The team discovers that Jaffiri was tortured before being murdered, and that his young daughter, Leila, may have witnessed the killing. The team questions Leila, now in her twenties.
Meanwhile, Michael Leonard from the Foreign Office tells the team that he used to be a member of the Fakirs, a university drinking society, and that they have a skull which he suspects may be the Mahdi's.
The team breaks into the Fakirs' house during an initiation ritual and takes the skull away for forensic examination. Boyd questions both James Andrews and Elaine Wilson, the married couple who are in charge of the Fakirs, and bullies Wilson into giving him information about the skull.
Trevor Eve plays Boyd, Sue Johnston plays Grace, Wil Johnson plays Spence, Felicite du Jeu plays Stella, Tara Fitzgerald plays Eve, Alex Jennings plays James Andrews, Polly Walker plays Catherine Braithwaite, Graham Crowden plays Sir Cyril Barrett, Abdi Gouhad plays Khaled Ahmad, Alex James plays Michael Leonard, Houda Echouafni plays Leila Jaffiri and Lisa Jackson plays Elaine Wilson.

The Fall: Part 1
In the first of a two-part story by Damian Wayling, the team is called in when workmen dislodge two sexually conjoined bodies which fall through the ceiling in a former City bank which folded after Black Wednesday.
A 13-digit number on a gold ingot matches that found on a cold case river corpse from 1993. The City bank corpse is bank director Mervyn Simmel, who disappeared and was suspected of skipping the country with the bank's funds. Simmel's co-chairman, Lucien Calvin, who was released following imprisonment for fraud, now masquerades as a therapist, preaching against greed.
Journalist Lisa Tobin takes a keen interest in the case. The female corpse is identified as Katherine Keane, reported missing by her husband, Declan Keane, in 1992. Tobin makes a connection between the two corpses before the team does and explains that she was researching Katherine's biography, and she knows Katherine had three other wealthy lovers at the time of her death: City Alderman Philip White, banker Anthony Garland and shadow Trade and Industry Minister Ian Taggart. Garland had an alibi but is now deceased so the team checks out Taggart and White.
Eve finds evidence of mortification on Katherine's thigh which links to Opus Dei. Boyd is warned off by Opus Dei's London director, Hugo Keegan. Meanwhile, the river corpse is identified as Brian McGurk, aide to an Irish Ambassador in London until he was sacked in 1992. The trail takes the team to Dublin where the case takes a dramatic turn when one of the suspects falls to his death as Boyd watches on, helpless.
The story concludes on Monday night at 9pm on BBC One.

I can't belive that Esther leave after only one series. It was bad enough when Holly went, and then just as i got used to that and had warmed to Esther, she goes and leaves too
i know what you mean, and i dont like the french woman that much either, but i think thats because she came after Claire Goose which was quite a touch act to follow. Spence is still there though hes my favourite, i like Sue Johnstons character as well GRace. I think shes really good. Oo its on tonight, my nan phoned me before saying how she was looking forward to it.
*starts getting all excited as its on tonight, so reminds self that won't be online till at least afterwards :D *
I love this programme, not sure why Esther decided to leave that quickly, but then she didn't really make that much of an impression on me unlike Holly.
One of the best bits though - Boyd has kept the beard!!! Oh yes - thank you Trevor!! :rotfl:
(That and the brilliant storylines etc aswell mind)
my mum says that about trevor as well, the beard does him more justice than no beard.
The only problem with this show is it needs my full concenmtration otherwise i have no idea what is going on.
Its one of the only programmes I must stay off the net to watch. Most things I can multi task, but what with looking at Trevors beard and then getting the storyline, PLUS chatting on net - its kind of impossible for me :rotfl:

Oh yes Trevor and the beard   one hour of bliss :D
Yes Holly was better, but then i've followed her carer for years and have always liked her. But i liked Esther too, so here's hoping i like the new girlie.
One hour to go and the gorgeous Mr Eve will be back on our screens!! *starts doing a little dance*
Tara Fitz is quite a good actress isn't she (from what I remember anyway). I preferred Holly Aird too, found her better in that role than Esther, although in a strange sense, I thought they both looked quite similar. It will be interesting to see if this new character is going to be completely different to both predecessors and to see how the rest of the team accept her, aswell as explain why there is a new bod in the place

an hour  *run's to have a bath* Will come back in fluffy dressing gown and fluffy slippers, all ready to sit and watch the main man :D
I'm not sure if i've seen her in anything before, i can't remember. They never really explaned Frankie's (Holly) leaving.
They didn't did they, although I think her leaving was mentioned at the beginning of the series wasn't it.....
If its the same actress I'm thinking of, I've seen her briefly in a couple of things, and seems ok - we shall soon see :D

What a great episode !!!!!!! Trevor Eve never fails to deliver a smashing portrayal of Det. Boyd.. I am so glad Sue Johnson is back as Grace.. whoa what a turn around for Spence ( he no longer dresses like a Wall Street broker ) he had tattoos,, wow,,
The new girl..... boy,,, she spent time at the body farm, dang..again I am reserving judgement,, I miss the other gal Frankie (what happened to her in the last series I forgot )
This is one program me and my hubby absolutely LOVE.. !!!
Bring on tomorrow nites program :cheer:
Kudos to the entire cast !!!!!!!!!!!:cheer:
It was really good last night, cant wait to see the conclusion tonight. those dogs really freaked me out. You have to love botd, i cant even think of a word to describe him. When he was talking about the shrine, theres a nun thingy.
I was really surprised that it was Killigans son who killed Davy. Had a feeling that the stigmata gorl was esthers child
I was surprised too - almost right till the minute I didn't realise.
I know that obviously finding a childs skeleton is upsetting, but any thoughts on why Stella ran off like that?
I thought she was the daughter too - was good to see them reunited.
I think id run off if i had boyd for my boss, i think she was upset that she had to go to the shrine and remove the things. I kept havong to tekll my mum it was only a TV programme.
Those dogs freaked me out just watching them on the screen.

Great program !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to explain to hubby that taking those things from a shrine was a scarilage ( sp ) he was getting ready to argue I said remember when we went to WOUNDED KNEE, there were indian things and they told you not to pick them up or move them,, he said yea ,, I said same thing goes for the things put on the shrine, he was like OHHHHHHHH I get it now ,,, duhh
I had a feeling that the stigima nun was the lost baby from the moment that esther was shown giving the baby away..
Does any one think that maybe Boyd may be an atheiest ???
I was also a bit surprised about Killigans son killing Davey as well, but hey it kept us on the edge of our seats.
Bring on next weeks episode !!!!!!!!!
Boyd an atheist, never!!! no i think he is the impression he was giving. I know im looking forward to it. I didnt think that i would like Tara Fitzgerald either but i thought she was really good in it. I think ill like her.
I really recognised the guy who played Joe McDonnagh but i cant htink where i recognise him from its doing my head in.

I've just found this on the Waking the Dead website - looks quite interesting.

I love this program. And Last nights/Sunday Nights was brilliant - although the nuns were slightly scary and got me all confused, but good episode.
Trever and Sue just make a great double act - love them!

I absolutely love this programme! Loved Sunday/Monday's two parter- i agree, Trevor and Sue make a wonderful double act, and it was a brilliant plot as per usual! Those dogs were scary and those nuns were too. I guessed that nun was Esther's child but the murderer being Killigan Junior totally shocked me! This show never fails to dissapoint me! I can't wait until next week's two parter.

yeah i agree, i honestly thought it was going to be daddy killigan, rather than junior. love the show, definately one of my favourites
i actually quite liked eve. i was so upset when holly left and then i was just getting used to the one from the BT adverts (sorry, i can't remeber her name), when she goes and leaves too. i didn't think i would like eve, but i didn't hate her and i think she will grow on me over time - providing she doesn't leave after one series as well of course!!!

Mask Of Sanity: Part 1
When a long-term patient in a secure psychiatric unit is released on the same day that the wallets of his murder victims are sent to the wife of one of them, the spotlight falls again on James Jenson in the latest two-part story for the Cold Case team.
Jenson was the prime suspect at the time of the three murders but was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial following a confession. One of the other suspects was Dr Bruno Rivelli, but this line of enquiry was dropped when Jenson confessed. Grace goes to interview Dr Rivelli, who now runs a successful paediatric psychiatry unit, having previously run the council-owned Hickley children's home.
A former resident of Hickley, Jenson returns to the children's home, now derelict, and remembers incidents from his childhood. Boyd decides to stir things up by telling Jenson that his friends sent the wallets in order to implicate him in the murders.
Spencer follows Jenson to the launch of a new housing development, where Jenson confronts Harris Wall as he makes a speech presenting the new development. The situation is defused by Wall's wife, Sophie, who clearly has influence over Jenson.
Alan Pierce, an old friend of Jenson's from the children's home, gives him a message – Sophie wants to meet with him after the presentation. But when Jenson arrives for the meeting, he is set upon by Harris Wall's security guards. Jenson sees off the security men and manages to escape. Alerted by Spencer, Boyd and Grace race to Pierce's flat but arrive too late – Alan Pierce has been murdered...
The story concludes tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.
Nicholas Beveney plays James Jensen, James Fox plays Dr Bruno Rivelli, Sue Johnston plays Grace, Trevor Eve plays Boyd, Wil Johnson plays Spencer, Martin Marquez plays Harris Wall and Jemma Redgrave plays Sophie Wall. The cast also includes Tara Fitzgerald as Eve and Felicite du Jeu as Stella.

well, i can honestly say i have NO idea what was going on in this episode. i am usually ok with all the storylines and i love the show, but last night i didn't have a clue
i think i just about understand the two cases, but what was the connection between the two???
anyone who could explain it to me would be great
thanks xxx
p.s. sorry for being dumb!
I have to admit having missed the first part on Sunday, Mondays part made no sense to me at all apart from the horrific torture the victims underwent - I'm still not sure why they were torturing them in the first place..
Dont worry em, i saw Sundays and it made no sense come mondays it still made no sense. So no wonder only watching one was confusing. I just could get to grips with what was going on.
Dont worry em, i saw Sundays and it made no sense come mondays it still made no sense. So no wonder only watching one was confusing. I just could get to grips with what was going on.
Phew Katy!! It sort of made some sense, but I didn't get why they were torturing those people in the first place. Glad they unsewed that blokes mouth come the end though
Me as well, the first thing you saw was him sewing up his mouth and these drops of blood, from then on i knew it might be a bit difficult to understand.
Where have the days gone of being able to instantly understand what was happening??!!
Eg: There was a murder so many years ago which is unsolved, but doesn't involve religious sects/cults etc (Or maybe that was Sunday's part lol)
I know what you mean but i did really enjoy last weeks. With the travellors. Boyd was on top form as always though so it didnt really matter, i like his comments.
Yeah, last weeks was brilliant and easy to understand. This week I just got confused, but I didn't mind so much - whilst Trevor is on my tv, I'm happy

The Cold Case team is called in when escaped psychiatric patient Daniel Lennon directs a family to unearth a male body in their Hampstead garden, in the penultimate instalment of Waking The Dead.
Unable to remember killing his parents, for which he was convicted, Daniel is off his medication, on the run and has started taking drugs.
The team discovers that the body in the garden is Austrian student Rolf Voller, who went missing in the Sixties. They question elderly consultant psychiatrist Dr Raymond Parke, who worked with Voller. Both knew Daniel. Parke warns them to find Daniel quickly.
Believing the answers to Voller's death lie in the case of Daniel's murdered parents, Eve examines the murder scene. Meanwhile, Daniel cons his way into the home of Dr Parke. Trapped in his own home, Parke frantically tries to get away.
Please note that the sixth and final two-part story in the current series will broadcast on Sunday 18 and Monday 19 February at 9pm on BBC One. On Sunday 11 February, BBC One will screen the Bafta Film Awards.
tidying things up.......merged :D
It was much better last night as i actually understood what was goingon. They didnt do a very good job though, i dont think they caught anyone. Alive anyway.
I agree Katy - I missed Sunday (sorry 24 far more important!!) but was able to catch up and work out what was going on last night. I guess that the Irish Police Officer had a role somewhere in it as he was so desperate to go back to London with Boyd and Spence, plus, I dunno, something just told me he was involved in some way.
I didn't think she was going to kill him at the end though, I thought Boyd had got through to her so as not to kill him...

It was absolutely fantastic last night! I just love this show, so many twists and turns! I was surprised that the journalist was Catherine Keane's daughter! And that detective being involved, i didn't expect either!
The end had me on the edge of my seat, i thought Boyd was going to get through to the journalist and she wouldn't shoot him so i was totally shocked when she did!
Must say last week's story, i didn't understand at all and i nearly fell asleep on the Monday episode as it was so boring and i didn't get what was going on...glad i wasn't the only one! But this week was an absolute turn-around.. I was totally gripped!
I had a feeling she'd be the daughter but I was wondering if her father would actually be the guy she shot at the end...
This is the sort of Waking the Dead I love, not like last weeks and I'm glad it came back to us this weekend. I hope next weeks is similar, less confusing than the previous one
i thought that to, i had no idea she was her daughter but my mum walked in and was like its her daughter, i was like thanks for that.
It was really good though. I agree about the irish garda. he was really odd, and i knew that man would be a complete psycho, it was those pictures above his bed when i realised he was really perculier.

Yahrzeit
In this special final episode of the current series, the Cold Case team digs deep to unearth the secrets buried for over 60 years in a house owned by a London family.
Boyd receives an anonymous package in the post – a Nazi ceremonial dagger. Attached to it is a Cold Case number: the unsolved murder of a young girl whose body was found on an East London street in May 1945. Boyd discovers that the last person to look in the file was his old colleague, Mel Silver, two weeks before her death.
The trail leads to a dealer in war memorabilia and the team learns that an American woman called Sarah, the same woman who was in touch with Mel before she died, bought the dagger. The team then visits a house to talk to the Polish builder who took the dagger to the dealer to be sold. He is not there, but they are shown where the dagger was hidden.
Outside, Boyd confronts Sarah. She tells him she is working for Interpol on war crime cases and wants to be included in the current investigation, but Boyd refuses.
Simon Dusniak, the owner of the house, is shocked to discover that his mother, Abigail, has returned to the UK from her home in Panama. She challenges him about putting her father in a nursing home.
When the team heads back to the dealer's shop it has been ransacked and the dealer is dead. Boyd reluctantly lets Sarah tag along as an observer.
Back at the lab, Eve finds a military tattoo on the torso of a suicide victim. The number appears to identify him as Nazi doctor Martin Heiss, who worked for Josef Mengele in extermination camps in Poland during the Second World War. But what is the link between the unsolved murder of a young girl in 1945, the late Mel Silver and an SS dagger..?
Trevor Eve plays Boyd; Michelle Forbes plays Sarah; Nicholas Palliser plays Simon Dusniak; Dame Eileen Atkins plays Abigail Dusniak; and Tara FitzGerald plays Eve. Sue Johnston is Grace; Wil Johnson is Spence; and Felicité du Jeu is Stella.

Well that was one terrific episode.. since I grew up in the 60's I have seen what LSD can do to a person..and it is not uncommon what u saw in last nites episode..Many Vietnam vets became acid droppers to forget what they saw in 'nam.
Thats what they called a BAD TRIP.
In the early 70's they had acid patrols at rock concerts,, saw a guy being carried out cos he was trying to scratch his face off,, so really the graphic part was what the person taking acid thought he was seeing.
I applaud the writers for the story and the directors for the vision they gave us,, it was spot on !!!!
Also Trevor Eve gave us some terrific acting as usual, I do hope Grace eventually comes back...

Ooh wasn't last night episode goood. All the twists and stuff, got me a bit confused at one point though. Deffinately one of the best episodes this series :)!
I was a bit confused at one point but it started making sense. I thought it was odd a link with Mel but when we saw Sarah it became a bit less confusing. It was so horrible what they did to that familiy though, the scenes were rather graphic, Cant wait till tonights concluding part.

What a great ending to the series, and in a way i hope it's the end of Waking the Dead, as much as i love the show, i think that the ending was the best. With Boyd and Mel etc....
thats what me and my mum said Dawn, as its like in a way you know Boyd is happy. And that if there were never to be another episdoe it ended really well. I think it did the show justice pulling all the stories togeter and finally putting a close on Mel. I thought it was really nice when Sarah told boyd that Funerals arent for the dead person but the people who they left behind.

i agree that it was a great ending. would have made it completely complete with a little bit of frankie in my opinion. maybe if she had appeared at the end in the graveyard, after boyd and sarah had walked off. just to let us know she was there and thinking of mel!
anyway, it was truly brilliant and had me nearly crying at the end! it was so emotional!

BBC cop drama Waking The Dead has been thrown into chaos because the show's star Trevor Eve is facing a family crisis.
Trevor, 55, was forced to halt filming for the programme's seventh series and take a flight out to America when he heard that his 20-year-old son had been arrested in Los Angeles for assaulting a police officer.
A show source told The Sun: "We don't know how long he'll be gone and everything is right up in the air. He's the main character, so filming has been suspended on location and the cast have returned to the main film studios. They will have to shoot scenes that Trevor does not appear in until he gets this sorted and comes back to work.
"Trevor is obviously extremely concerned for Jack and desperate to do everything he can for him."
