Strictly Come Dancing star and cricketer Mark Ramprakash has admitted cheating on his wife of 15 years.

The former England batsman, 37, said he had been having a secret affair with Sadia Saleem, 27, for "several years". Ramprakash told the Sunday Mirror: "I am distraught at the grief I have caused my wife and family, who I love very much."

His wife Vandana, 36, cheered him on in the audience of BBC TV's Strictly Come Dancing. Ramprakash smiled and hugged his dance partner, Karen Hardy, after they were voted through to the semi-final.

Ramprakash's lawyer Nanesh Desai said there was no question of the couple separating and that the affair with Ms Saleem was over.

The cricketer - one of the favourites to win the popular dancing show - met Ms Saleem several years ago while playing county cricket for Surrey in Cardiff.

Mr Desai confirmed he broke off the relationship several months ago before becoming involved in Strictly Come Dancing. Mr Desai said that Ramprakash had admitted the affair to his wife.

Mr Desai confirmed the newspaper report that Ramprakash had sat Vandana down at the family home a few weeks ago and broke the news that reportedly left her devastated.

Mr Desai said: "As far as he's concerned there's nothing more to say, apart from he's very sorry for the hurt he's caused his wife and family."

Mr Desai said there was no suggestion that Ramprakash and his wife would be separating, adding: "As you can see, she's at the show. They are not the actions of people who are splitting up."

Ramprakash and his wife have two young daughters. The couple met 18 years ago and married at Harrow Register Office, followed by a traditional Indian wedding in Birmingham in 1993. They live in Harrow, north London.

Anyone else find the timing of this "announcement" coincidental with the upcoming semi finals of SCD etc?!

yes i do. Why is this important. Who cares about his personal life. Lots of peoples have affairs why should it get published in the papers its not fair. Especially to his family. The press have no thought or consideration for hte families of these peoples.

I think this is trying to ruin his chances of winning SCD. Yes he shouldn't have had an affair, but its a private matter between him and his family, nothing to do with anyone else, so shouldn't be released. I hope he wins now just to show those people who were seemingly hoping this would ruin things for him (IMO) that they can play this kind of game with peoples lives

 But he actually commented on it. If he wanted it to remain private, why fuel the rumours by admitting to it?

I personally have no sympathy for him. He shouldn't have had an affair, it's as simple as that, so if it did affect his chances of winning SCD, it's his own fault.
His lover actually had the cheek to comment on the affair, which shows what a sort of person she is.
'I've been a fool.. I am distraught at the grief I caused my family' - Mark last night.
Shouldn't he have thought about that when he was screwing his mistress..?

Good on him for admitting it. He could have done a beckham and denied it but he actually told his wife so good on him.

No he shouldnt have had an affair but its over and done with, all outin open so noone can sell their story for shock value, Lets hope him and his wife sort it out.
