Max and Steph appear to be getting back on track. They address their intimacy issues and Elle seemingly offers an olive branch in the form of a profitable deal with the garage. With everyone left questioning Max’s fragile mind, only Elle holds the key; she was the one who deviously orchestrated everything.

Stingray falls from the Kennedy roof after Rachel’s plan for him to sober up goes badly awry. Hospitalised for a groin injury and scared of losing Rachel, Stingray promises her he won’t touch another drop. Susan’s delighted to have Karl back home - unlike Audrey - until she notices some odd changes. For every decision she includes him in regarding the kids, Karl becomes more distant and detached.

With Charlie found safe in his crib, Max protests his innocence and has a revelation: perhaps Paul is somehow responsible? Steph gives qualified support to this theory but angry Lyn tells her Paul wasn’t involved, and counsels Steph to get Max professional help. Toadie also suggests Max needs time away to heal his mental wounds. At a loss, Steph asks Max to consider treatment. Max looks set to accept but then a strange order at ScarletBar points to another culprit – Elle.

Elle steps up her vendetta against Max by drawing Boyd into the plot. After detailing Max’s odd behaviour – and seeding the idea Toadie has the hots for Steph – Elle ‘helps’ Boyd by looking after the bar. Boyd catches Toadie comforting Steph, and sees red. Learning Toadie’s not accepting a job in Sydney, Boyd confronts him, irrationally certain that Toadie’s doing his best to break up his family.

Paul continues his attempt to be a normal neighbour, much to Lyn’s delight and Elle’s distaste. He invites Karl and Susan to partake in a couple’s dinner but the evening’s a disaster, leaving Paul wondering if he’ll ever attain his suburban dream.

Susan takes issue with Karl over his lack of support dealing with Rachel. Upset by Zeke and Rachel’s apparent rejection of him however, Karl is not willing to be a parent for the Kinski kids; he’s happy just being their mate.
