Bond 22 - Direction Continuation Of Casino Royale

Storylines Hinted

“At the end of this film there’s unfinished business,” she told CHUD. “It’s clear in this story that there’s someone out there. In fact there’s a line at the end of the book Casino Royale where Bond makes a decision that he’s going to take on this task, he’s going to become a warrior and try to find the hand that holds the whip. The big menace out there, the man who manipulates people and gets them to do evil things. That’s very much the spirit of the book and that’s the direction we’re going to continue on.”

But just because this is a Bond prequel, don’t expect to see remakes of previous Bond films or the reappearances of old villains like Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger. Says Broccoli, “That’s not the plan. The plan is to continue down this path.” That path will be a little more realistic than the last few Bond film, which Broccoli felt went about as far to the fantastical as they could, but won’t be as grounded in real-world politics as the Bourne series. “Although these are not political films, we like to get the atmosphere of the world situation, and terrorism is a big subject on everybody’s mind. It’s not just the terrorism but the financing of terrorism, and that’s a big challenge for all the secret services of the world, to find the financing and track the financing. When we did Casino Royale it was easy to adapt the Le Chiffre character and make him the banker to the world’s terrorists. I think we’ll continue down that path of trying to find a relevant and more realistic story – not a political story.”

Daniel Craig, the new James Bond himself, agrees that there’s unfinished business at the end of this film. “We’ve set up this idea that there’s an organization out there, and maybe there’s one person who’s responsible. The fact is now he has to go and get them. That’s where the next film is going to take us,” he said.

Craig, who is signed on for three films, wants the next film to also explore more of Bond. “I don’t think he’s rounded yet. I don’t think he’s finished. He’s got some more lessons to learn yet, and to me that’s where we take it now. I’d like to see him get into situations we might not have imagined him in before. That’ll be the difficult thing, trying to find situations and scenarios.”

Broccoli agreed. “There’s unfinished business in terms of an evil force but there’s also unfinished business internally that he has to resolve. We’re planning to go forward and resolve some of this. Quite how we do it, I don’t know at the moment. It’s a great starting point for the future journey.”

The plan right now, according to Craig, is to get everyone together in January and hammer out ideas for the next film. The actor can’t wait. “In June of this year, when I finished this movie, the last thing in the world I wanted to do was make another Bond movie. I now feel much more pumped up about the idea of taking this on, and it’s going to be interesting.”

Vesper's Boyfriend For Bond 22 Vilain Role?

In a recent interview about her work on Casino Royale, Eva Green (who plays Vesper Lynd in the film) gave away a few spoilers on the 22nd James Bond film, due out November 7th 2008:

How did you manage to keep straight in your own mind Vesper's shifting motivations and loyalties?

I think it's too confusing. But they're going to do a second [movie] where you'll understand what's going on in her mind. It was really hard, and Barbara Broccoli helped me understand. You would think, wait a minute, she had an Algerian boyfriend, and she's been sent on this mission, and then she begins to feel guilty. She's in love with Bond. It's a deep love. The Algerian boyfriend was something light, an affair. So there's an internal conflict. The plan is, the Algerian boyfriend is going to be the baddie in the second Bond, and we'll understand [better]. But you don't have to think about it too much.

Vesper To Return In Bond 22?

For many years, any woman who tangled with James Bond either died a grisly death or was forgotten as soon as the British superspy received orders for his next mission - reports The Australian.

But the era of the Bond girl as a one-night stand will end on November 14, when Vesper Lynd, played by Eva Green, makes the first of two appearances in the film series.

Eon Productions, which owns the Bond film franchise, has suggested that Green's character will return in Casino Royale's sequel, which has the temporary title of Bond 22. It's the first time in recent history that one of the spy's love interests has featured in more than one film.

Green, who co-starred with Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven, is expected to appear as a pre-recorded video message transmitted over the internet.

Barbara Broccoli, the daughter of Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and co-producer of the Bond series since Goldeneye, has said Bond 22 will continue where Casino Royale left off. "We're already thinking about the sequel," she said. "We're in the early stages. It is an original story, but it's going to

Giancarlo Giannini Returns As Mathis!

Giancarlo Giannini has confirmed he has signed up to reprise his role from "Casino Royale" in the 22nd James Bond film - due to start shooting in January 2008.

The Italian actor played 007's "ally" Rene Mathis in Daniel Craig's debut outing as 007.

Giannini confirmed to Italian magazine Il Giornale that he has signed up to Bond 22.

His character's motivations were left unclear at the end of Casino Royale, although Giannini is reported to have said that he will turn out to be one of the "good guys" after all. His double agent status will be used by Bond to reach to top of the organisation Le Chiffre worked for.

I wouldn't like to think of him in any role, famous faces often dont go down too well in the Bond films becuase people think of what theyve been famous for rather than the character they are playing.

Keifer will always be Jack to me, it would be weird seeing him as a villian, he's too nice lol!

Im just a bit confused with Bind as in the timeline of when each film happened if that makes any sense.

Each Bond film, in theory is a stand alone film, with the storyline resolved by the end. There is usually the ocassional cross reference i.e his wife's death, and the returning characters that he works with.

In terms of Casino Royale, it was meant to be a reboot. Brining it back to the beginning, in theory none of what we've seen over 40 years should have happened, they've whiped the slate clean and this film was meant to be the start of his career.

Bond 22 is going to be a direct continuation from Casino Royale.

Hope that's cleared some things up for you :)

ER Star For Bond Villain Role?

According to a Croatian newspaper this week, "when auditioning for Bond in Casino Royale, Goran Visnjic did such a good job he burned into the minds of the EON psyche. So powerful was his performance that he single handly won the role of next Bond Baddie in the upcoming Bond22 film with Daniel Craig."

"It is rumoured that Goran's agent has confirmed the star is working on something massive and will be taking a well earned break from ER in late 2007. It is rumoured that Goran will be playing Vesper Lynd's former love interest and that his role will be sizable, meanacing and significant to the plot of the upcoming Bond adventure. Bond 22 is continuation of Casino Royale and will be forming a trilogy story for Daniel Craig's rough and tough Bond."

Casting director Debbie McWilliams confirmed to the Australian press in December that Goran Visnjic was screentested for the Bond role but was 'just too young'.

Visnjic reportedly quit his role in the hit television series "ER" earlier this week.

Craig Signed for Four More 007 Movies

Apparently having overcome the snide comments that greeted the announcement that he had been chosen to play James Bond for Casino Royale, Daniel Craig has signed on to play him again for four more films, according to published reports. MGM chief Harry Sloan told the Hollywood Reporter that Craig had been signed because franchises are "the basis of any studio." Meanwhile, it was reported that writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash) has delivered his screenplay for the next 007 movie to MGM, just beating out the November 1 WGA strike deadline.

Leona Lewis is in line to sing the next James Bond theme, it has been reported.

Producers are rumoured to be considering the X Factor winner after dropping plans to hire Amy Winehouse.

A friend of the singer commented: "Leona's beaming from ear to ear at being asked to be part of such a huge movie.

"She thinks it's a real honour to follow in the footsteps of some of the world's biggest female names including Shirley Bassey, Sheryl Crow, Madonna and Tina Turner."

A spokesman for Lewis's record label Sony BMG explained: "Leona's management are in talks with various movie producers at the moment for a number of projects."

French actor Mathieu Amalric has confirmed rumours that he is to play the villain in the 22nd James Bond film. Amalric confirmed his status on the production in an interview with Empire magazine. He is the first actor in years to publicly confirm his casting ahead of an official announcement.

Last week, there were rumours that Sony had picked Mathieu Amalric, star of the upcoming "The Diving Bell And The Butterfly", with Fox News saying it was a "a done deal:"

Speaking to Empire, Amalric said "I will, it’s true. I play the villain, yes. James Bond.It has to do with childhood, you know? To be a villain in James Bond is just so funny. I never dreamt about that. It’s not what I want to do with my career. It’s just that I have kids and it’s so funny to do that. But it doesn’t mean that I’m not going to do a very small French film for free with my friends."

Actor/director Mathieu Amalric was born on October 25th 1965 in Neuilly-sur-Siene, France.

He will join a roster of French actors to play a lead villain role in a James Bond film, including Michael Lonsdale in "Moonraker", Louis Jourdan in "Octopussy", and Sophie Marceau in "The World Is Not Enough"

According to Fox, for Bond 22's director Marc Forster, "Amalric is a brilliant choice. Amalric is a youthful looking 42-year-old overnight sensation, an independent French film director who only started seriously acting in films at age 30 and has suddenly been thrust into a hot career.

His character is yet to be revealed, but Eva Green gave some potential clues when "Casino Royale" was released. Back in November 2006, Green said, "[Vesper Lynd] had an Algerian boyfriend, and she's been sent on this mission, and then she begins to feel guilty. She's in love with Bond. It's a deep love. The Algerian boyfriend was something light, an affair. So there's an internal conflict. The plan is, the Algerian boyfriend is going to be the baddie in the second Bond, and we'll understand [better]. But you don't have to think about it too much. "

Biography
Described by one critic as an "Antoine Doinel for the '90s" who also evokes François Truffaut's feral Wild Child, Mathieu Amalric established himself as one of France's top young actors by playing intellectually-attuned young men dealing with fateful decisions regarding life and love. Although he began appearing in films in the 1980s, Amalric became a more prominent cinematic presence in the 1990s, beginning with the comedy La Chasse aux Papillons (1992) and a small part in Arnaud Desplechin's Kafkaesque drama La Sentinelle (1992). One of a new generation of gifted French directors, Desplechin's My Sex Life ... or How I Got into an Argument (1996) brought Amalric international renown, as well as the Most Promising Young Actor César, for his incisive performance as an irresolute academic who cannot settle his love life or his career. Talkative and book-smart, yet unwise, Amalric's Paul Dedalus personified inner paralysis amidst a complex range of characters that suggested with humor and canny emotion the roads he could possibly take. Continuing his collaborations with France's most esteemed filmmakers, Amalric worked with André Téchiné in Alice et Martin (1998) and played a writer facing a personal crossroads in Olivier Assayas' voluble, intimate character study Late August, Early September (1998). An experienced assistant director and editor as well as actor, Amalric made his own directorial debut with the low budget slice of life Mange Ta Soupe (1997). ~Lucia Bozzola, All Movie Guide

The name for the newest James Bond film has been announced today. The 22nd film, previously known only as "Bond 22", will be called "Quantum of Solace". EON Productions who are producing the film made the announcement today at Pinewood Studios, where production for the film has been under way since last year.

The name of the film was inspired by a short story (of the same name) from For Your Eyes Only by Bond creator, Ian Fleming.

The film will be the second for star Daniel Craig, who first starred in Casino Royale in 2006, taking over from Pierce Brosnan. Producer Michael G. Wilson has previously said that the film will continue "literally an hour after" Casino Royale's conclusion.

Not a brilliant title at all.

But from how I intreprt it it means a small amount of comfort from something emotional.

Would tie in with the plot of the story, about Bond trying to get over Vesper's betrayal.

From MI6.co.uk

Daniel Craig

What does the title mean?
I've got to give you the Ian Fleming line the title. It's basically his idea that once the quantum of solace leaves a relationship it's all over. If you don't have that quantum of solace then there's not much worth fighting for. It's a lot to do with where he's at from the end of the last movie. He's had his heart broken and he's going out to find the guy who is responsible. He hasn't had that closure in his life.

He's looking for revenge, but also to make himself happy with the world again. What's great about the title is that it also refers to something that is very important to the plot. It has grown on me.It doesn't trip off the tongue. But why should it?

We could have gone for a snappier title, but that's not part of the deal. It ties into the plot. It's not some random title. It is meant to confuse a little. It's meant to make you sort of wonder. We want people to start thinking as they come and see the film. But that doesn't mean that it is going to be character-driven kitchen sink drama. We're making a Bond movie.

Above: Daniel Craig interviewed on the set of "Quantum of Solace" at Pinewood Studios.

How important is it to you to make this second film a success?
This is even more important to me now than it was before. Last time I thought that if I failed I could walk away and say 'OK, I screwed that up' and I'll go try something else. This time we have to prove the last one wasn't just pure luck.

In November with another Harry Potter movie, it will be the clash of the British icons at the box-office. How do you see yourself in this face-off?
Very favourably. I'd be silly not to, really.

Is the pressure on your shoulders to make this a success?
It's not the way I think. Even if I did allow myself to think like that it would only be just for a moment. That way madness lies. Suggesting that what I do will make this work... it's a team effort.

How does this film link to Casino Royale?
It starts, in film-time, about 20 minutes after the last one finished. It takes us to an emotional conclusion, and also well on the way to finding out who the bad guys are and their organisation which is having a serious go at taking over the world.

How is it working with Marc Forster?
I was incredibly excited when Marc Forster got involved. If you watch his movies, his versatility is quite outstanding. Look at "Monster's Ball" to "Neverland" to "The Kite Runner" - they are all so different yet equally wonderful movies. And that he's bringing to this movie in spades. He's very particular... Every shot counts. Every part of the process is very important to him. It's very easy to work with people like that.

Will you be in your swimming trunks again?
There'll be some flesh for sure. It's in my contract, although I didn't notice that when I signed it!

Have you worked out as much for this as the last film?
I'm in the shape of my life. I've trained really hard. I didn't expect the last film to be so tiring and physically demanding. I'm fitter now than then.

Gemma Arterton

Can you tell us a little about your character?
I'm playing Fields, Agent Fields, and she works for MI6 at the British Consulate in Bolivia and she has to look after Bond, or tries to.

She is not sultry or a femme fatale, she's fresh and young. She doesn't do anything too advanced, it's not like she's killing people.

Do you have a love scene with Bond?
Yes I do kiss Daniel Craig. The kiss has happened and yes - it was quite incredible. It was all a bit of a daze. I felt such a giggly girl because he's such a man. I can't really divulge too much, but it was good.

Above: Gemma Arterton reveals some details on her character Agent Fields..

What is it like being part of a Bond film?
I still feel like I shouldn't really be here. It's insane to be working with Judi Dench and Daniel Craig - I feel so young and inexperienced and green.

"You're going to get a phone call in a minute. Would you mind telling them I'm heading for Cairo?" - Bond to Hotel Receptionist

Mathieu Amalric

How will your villain be unique?
There'll be no metal jaw, no white hair, no scar, no eye with blood. Just my face. The director saw something in me that had to do with the devil. That was a compliment. I've been taking details, the smile of Tony Blair, the craziness of Sarkozy [French President], he's the worst villain we've ever had. He's really dangerous. In fact he walks around thinking he's in a Bond film.

So your villainy will come from within?
He was supposed to have a secret skill. But we had this idea that maybe if the villain doesn't know how to fight, James Bond would be more surprised. Sometimes anger can be much more dangerous. I'm going to fight like in school. I was going to say 'like a woman'. You are allowed to do things that you are not allowed to do in real life, especially with a woman.

How have the villains changed?
What is horrible about today, is that we can't guess who the villains are. The villains are invisible. There is the fantasy that is James Bond, but there is always something that could be real, and it has to do with love. It has to do with broken hearts.

What made you take the role?
It's impossible to say to your kids that 'I could have been in a Bond film but I refused'.

Olga Kurylenko

How will your character be different from previous Bond girls?
James Bond is after revenge, and Camille is after revenge. They have slightly different goals, but in the end, they are going to have to collaborate. She will be very different. She's a fighter. I'm doing weapons training and body flight training for aerial scenes and stunt work for fighting. This girl is going to kick ass. She's on her own mission. In the movie, he is obviously still attached to his past. The appearance of this new girl might divert him. Or, it might not.

Daniel Craig discusses new Bond title
Saturday, January 26 2008, 10:18 GMT

By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

Daniel Craig has insisted that the title of the new Bond movie is integral to the plot.

It was announced on Thursday that the 22nd movie in the 007 franchise would be called Quantum of Solace, which was the title of a short story in Bond creator Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only collection.

Though some fans have claimed that the title is overly complicated, lead actor Craig has said that opting for a "snappier" name would have been a mistake.

"We could have gone for a snappier title, but that sort of suggests we're insecure about what we're trying to say," Craig explained. "The statement is an Ian Fleming statement. It comes from the idea that in a relationship, if you don't have a quantum of solace left in your relationship, then give up.

"Where Bond is left at the end of the last movie, his heart's been broken and he doesn't have that quantum of solace, he doesn't have that ... closure on what happened in his life and he needs to find out. What is great about it is it also applies to something very important in the plot."

The movie will be released in November.

Arterton hints at Bond plot twist
Tuesday, January 29 2008, 12:45 GMT

By Beth Hilton, Entertainment Reporter

Gemma Arterton has accidentally hinted that James Bond may tie the knot in the latest installment of the superspy franchise.

The 22-year-old told a US reporter that she and Daniel Craig had been shooting in a honeymoon suite in Quantum Of Solace.

The surprised journalist asked, "Honeymoon suite?", prompting Arterton to reply: "I think I've said too much."

The actress, who can currently be seen in St Trinian's, plays an MI6 agent working at the British consulate in Bolivia.

George Lazenby's Bond married Tracy Draco (Diana Rigg) in the 1969 movie On Her Majesty's Service. However, she was murdered in a drive-by shooting on their wedding day.

Al Pacino to make a guest appearance in the next Bond movie

It was an offer he couldn't refuse... a chance to do battle with James Bond.

Al Pacino - Don Corleone in the Godfather - has agreed to make a guest appearance in the next 007 movie, Quantum of Solace.

After top secret negotiations in LA, the screen legend is set to play the head of the international terrorist group introduced in Casino Royale.

A Bond insider revealed last night: "It's not a major role but it's an extremely important one. It will be a brief on-screen appearance.

Quantum of Solace, the next James Bond film, is to be released earlier than expected - on 31 October - its producers have announced.
The 22nd film in the series, and Daniel Craig's second outing as 007, had been due for release on 7 November.

The title of the film, which follows on from 2006's Casino Royale, is taken from a short story published by Bond creator Ian Fleming in 1960.

Filming has already taken place in Panama and the United States.

The main film shoot, with Marc Forster directing, began at Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire, in January.

James Bond's Aston Martin has crashed into Lake Garda in Italy after a stunt driver lost control.

Dan Frey was delivering the car for a scene in latest movie Quantum of Solace in the early hours of Saturday when he veered off the road in heavy rain.

He was rescued by firemen and treated in hospital with minor bruising after the vehicle plunged from a 20m cliff, producers said.

Italian TV showed footage of the £120,000 sports car being winched from the lake.

Keys and White record Bond theme

Jack White wrote and produced the track, which he recorded with Keys

Test your Bond song knowledge
Alicia Keys and Jack White have recorded the theme tune for the next James Bond film, Quantum of Solace.
R&B singer Keys has teamed up with the star of rock bands White Stripes and The Raconteurs for Another Way to Die, the first duet in Bond theme history.
The announcement follows speculation that the job would go to British stars Amy Winehouse, Duffy or Leona Lewis.
Quantum of Solace, which will see Daniel Craig return as 007, will be released later this year.
Winehouse was working on a theme with producer Mark Ronson - but that was scrapped because Ronson said the singer was not up to recording.

FIVE CLASSIC BOND THEMES
Goldfinger (1964) and Diamonds are Forever (1971) - Dame Shirley Bassey
Live and Let Die (1973) - Paul McCartney and Wings
Nobody Does It Better (The Spy Who Loved Me, 1977) - Carly Simon
A View To A Kill (1985) - Duran Duran
The new partnership sees the slick and soulful Keys team up with raw and bluesy rocker White.
Despite their different musical backgrounds, both are leading figures in the US scene, with 18 Grammy Awards between them.
White has written, produced and played drums on the track.
The film's producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."
The musicians "were inspired by our film to join together their extraordinary talents in creating a unique sound for Quantum of Solace", the producers said.

FIVE RECENT BOND THEMES

You Know My Name (Casino Royale, above, 2006) - Chris Cornell
Die Another Day (2002) - Madonna
The World Is Not Enough (1999) - Garbage
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) - Sheryl Crow
GoldenEye (1995) - Tina Turner
Previous iconic James Bond signature tunes have been recorded by stars including Dame Shirley Bassey, Duran Duran and Sir Paul McCartney.
The theme to the last film, 2006's Casino Royale, was recorded by another US rocker, Chris Cornell.
Quantum of Solace, the 22nd official film in the 007 series, picks up from Casino Royale as the secret agent sets out to avenge the apparent death of his lover.
It has a bigger budget than the last film and producers have promised more action.
The title is taken from a short story published by Bond creator Ian Fleming in 1960.
It will hit cinemas on 31 October in the UK, with the rest of the world seeing it from early November.
David Arnold will compose the film's score, with the soundtrack to be released on 28 October.
