I'm doing a project at College and would like people's opinions on why they use webforums.

I'm saying this because Peter Finchham at the BBC is quoted as saying only old loners and teenagers use them! that a cheek.

I assume this is Why do you use web forums!! For this one it is just to find out about Eastenders to start with but then I got so much more from it.

I use web forums at lot at work, especially tech ones. if i have a problem I can't fix, I can generally find a forum where someone is discussing the same problem

In a way I kind of agree with Peter Finchham, most forums out there are for teenagers (I'm not going to name site but the big one at the moment is mainly taken by very young people). This one is different, and I am sure there is a few like it, it is moderated well and kept under control.

i belong to a few forums, but i mainly use this one and one for mums. Have joined quite a few but they never seem to have the same sort 'atmosphere' as soapboards does, most are quite clicky and bitchy but i dont find this here!

I started off using soaps as just a place i came to read the spoilers but now its part of my daily life ( oh how sad that sounds!!) Ive made some great mates here so i guess that why i stick around

I don't agree with that at all. All people of all ages can use web forums. They are a great place to chat to people with similar interests to yours. In the case of this board, all the users have a collective interest in Soaps and Dramas and because of this board we can all chat to each other about them, have debates, ask opinions etc... and it's all done in a controlled environment so even though people can post what they like, when they like, troublesome users are kept out; making the experience better for everyone. :cheer:

i started using this forum to find out spoilers to programmes that i watch and then to discuss the programmes with others who also watched it. but now, while i still come on here to do that, i have also made a lot of friends on here so can come on here to talk to them, and its somewhere to go when im bored or when i need to moan about something to someone who wont be biased about the situation!

I started to find out some spoilers of something, but I think, once you read once, you come back, then you start posting, and then you become....addicted...as sad as it sounds  But that's basically what happened to me. But since I joined this one, I've become more aware of Forums, and have joined loads more. But like Debs, hardley any of them have the same atmosphere as one like this..

i think they are a nice way to talk about issues or subjects that you find most interesting with like minded people. You also dont know everything aout that person and they cant really judge youi over the next. If you read a message that you done like then it doesnt really matter like it would if a friend said it to you whilst haveing a discussion.

Its a great way to chat to people without becoming to involved.

I actually have to disagree there... if one of the good mates I had made on here, said something mean about me, I'd be upset  am I sad?? :hmm:

no your not sad. The point i was trying to get across is the friends on here dont have to know how you feel if you dont want them to know. Its up to you decided how much information you give out.

I'm saying this because Peter Finchham at the BBC is quoted as saying only old loners and teenagers use them! that a cheek. Well Im certainly not a sad old loner. I enjoy using web forum because I can chat to people with the same interests as me. This is the best one for soaps but I belong to others in connection with my work and hobbies. Peter Fincham needs to get out more.
