Will Rowetta cut it in new show?

Source: The Sun - November 03, 2006

X FACTOR beauty Rowetta is hoping to snip her way to success in a brand new reality TV show called Celebrity Scissorhands.

She’ll join eight other celebs – including Darren Day and Apprentice winner Michelle Dewbury - for a two-week stay at beauty boot camp, in aid of Children In Need.

Top hairdresser Lee Stafford will coach the novices in hair, beauty and fashion while Alex Zane presents the BBC Three show.

The stunning mum-of-two said: "I didn’t realise how hard it would be.

"It may look easy, but learning how to hold scissors and a comb in one hand is difficult.

"When we started we were all getting cut to pieces. Darren and Steve (80’s icon Steve Strange) got some serious ones on their hands."

The programme will see the trainees make the transition from practicing on dummies to working with real people, resulting in a final public vote to find the top three.

The winning trio will do the hair and make-up behind the scenes on the Children In Need appeal night on Nov 17, while the losers will have to sweep the floors.

"I hope the volunteers we’re working with have to sign a disclaimer so they can’t complain afterwards," laughed the 40-year old singer.

"We’re practicing a variety of hairstyles. I’m really looking forward to the Afro-Caribbean day."

Rowetta, who has developed a close bond with Steve, said: "We’ve become great friends. We’ve been practicing together – in fact, he’s just put an eye pack on me this morning.

"He’s hilarious. A real character."

The Manchester lass - who was once a backing singer for the Happy Mondays - came fourth in the first series of The X Factor.

Since then her career has gone from strength-to-strength.

"I have a huge gay following who are very loyal to me," she said. "I sang at Jordan and Peter’s wedding, released an album and my new tune Lighten Up has hit Ibiza by storm. It just keeps getting better.

"I sang for Children in Need last year and think it’s a brilliant cause. I’m thrilled and honoured to be doing it again."

She added: "I’ve been offered so many reality TV shows and turned them down.

"For this one though, no-one gets paid. No-one can say we’re reality TV whores."

Celebrity Scissorhands starts on Sunday at 8.30pm

Celebrity Scissorhands - I am confused :hmm: :hmm: The winner of the Apprentice is a celebrity how exactly, I thought she left Alan Sugar to start up her one business, I know this is for charity, but talk about upping your profile.

I have to agree with you - just like with Grace Adams Short and Celeb de Circute or what ever its called - appearing on Big Brother seems to give you celebrity status too now

I am sorry and sorry to no1abbafan too I get what you are saying now.

But you could argue that Rowetta was already a sort of Celebrity having been in the band that she was.

That's ok Mr Humphries, but these shows (while I like and watch them) really annoy me when they come up with these so-called celebs, can't they be honest and say they are doing it to up their profile.

Which famous band was Steve in then (I don't know his surname - maybe I should just look it up  )

Do people leave at all or are they all there all of the time unless they decide to up and leave (like Steve nearly did the other night) ??

Where was Darren last night or have I missed something??

I'd love to see Scott in the top 5 - he is doing really well.

That poor girl with the long curly hair last night though - she was really upset after Steve cut her hair - she'd never been to a hairdresser before and he cuts off like 5 inches haha

I would have probably gone for a trim

The winners of Celebrity Scissorhands were announced last night during the live Children In Need telethon.

Steve Strange, Scott Mills, Michelle Dewberry, Ortis Deley and Darren Day were thrilled to learn that the public had voted for them to work in the Academy throughout the night. There was no time for celebrations, however, as the celebrities were visited by a string of stars and members of the public who wanted to receive hair and beauty treatments from the winning participants.

Surprise arrivals included How Clean Is Your House stars Kim and Aggie, Two Pints actresses Natalie Casey and Kathryn Drysdale, as well as Bad Girl Vicky Alcock.

BBC Executive Alan Yentob also came through the Academy doors to receive a leg wax, an experience which he described as "very, very strange", while X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne decided to make some changes of her own by starting to shave Darren Day's chest.

Finally, in the climax of the series, Steve Strange set a new world record for the number of heads shaved in an hour, bringing the new total to 34. He was then presented with a certificate by an official from the Guinness Book of Records.

Stumbled across it by accident, didn't know it had started. Have to say don't know too many of the celebs, except for Stingray, Warwick and that IT girl, Can't believe Steve Strange is back as assistant manager. That girl that had her hair cut by Stingray, what a disaster, even Steve couldn't rescue it, still if you are prepared to have your hair cut by amateurs, then you get what you pay for so to speak.
