View Full Version : Another pint of bitter at NTA

FUMING Coronation Street stars snubbed the National TV Awards party for the second year running after losing out to EastEnders.

Cast members of the ITV1 soap were more bitter than The Rovers’ finest ale when they failed to pick up the Most Popular Serial Drama gong.

And top ITV execs were so peeved that they stormed out of their posh VIP boxes at London’s Royal Albert Hall in protest.

An ITV source said: “There was no way we were going to sit and clap for a show that’s won something that’s rightfully ours.

“EastEnders won after a year when they sank to ratings of just 3.7million. We just walked out into the corridor when EastEnders went up on stage — and cracked open another bottle of bubbly.”

The source added: “It’s just upsetting as EastEnders has a younger audience and they vote by text — while Corrie’s audience are a bit older and don’t really get to grips with that.”

The Sun told last year how Corrie’s cast left the after-show party to attend their own do — smarting at losing out to EastEnders.

This year, show stars including Tina O’Brien Ryan Thomas, Richard Fleeshman, Kym Ryder, Wendi Peters, Anthony Cotton, Jennie McAlpine, Michael LeVell, Helen Flanagan and Jack P Shepherd, had travelled from Manchester for the bash.

They were joined by Sue Cleaver, Tupele Dorgu, Alison King, Andrew Whyment, Sam Robertson and Nikki Patel — nominated for Most Popular Newcomer — at Tuesday night’s ceremony.

Afterwards, only Tina and Ryan, plus Richard and his girlfriend — Emmerdale babe Roxanne Pallett — went to the party at the Royal College of Art.

But they stayed for just a few minutes then joined the rest of their pals back at a hotel for their own private drinks bash.

Meanwhile, EastEnders stars, including Barbara Windsor, Perry Fenwick, Phil Daniels, and Kara Tointon stayed on to celebrate at the party. An EastEnders insider said: “All our lot stayed on till the party finished at 2.30am — then 0most of them went clubbing.”

In my opinion neither soap deserved to win! Emmerdale should have or even Hollyoaks, but never Eastenders, but the Corrie Cast should also get a life too and stop being so pardon the pun GAY !

So what they are saying is every other winner inculding EastEnders only won because of younger voters?

Maybe a fair point but Corrie are not doing themselves any favours at all. Infact they are making themselves very unpopular by saying such things. If BAFTA are paying attention to all these hissy fits they will get left off next years list.

if they do then it is sour grapes. Top Gear does not and has never attracted a young audience and yet they won an award

Agree with you 110% ! It's a case of sour losers !! Its not just kid that vote in these awards, I should think a good 70% of people who vote are over 25 years of age.

Considering Corrie prides itself on having a ''mature fan base'' there isn't half alot of bitterness around.

This proves that the whole thing is rigged, but I do think that the Corrie lot acted wrongly and should of just taken it on the chin and just gone along with things. As far as I know this is what the other "Soaps" cast etc did and they definitely deserve an award. I do think that Easties won because a lot of younger people now watch the soap and a lot of the older ones have now stopped...

IMO Emmerdale and Corrie are soaps for older people and the above mentioned is now for the younger audience, also I beleive that texting and internet contribute a lot to things.

As I have said before I don't agree with all these award thingys, they are totally unfair plus it puts unnecessary pressure on actors/actresses and the programme/soaps themselves.

Corrie should of won best soap but by walking out they just made themselves stupid

Do we have any proof they walked out?

Note the article mentioned 'SOURCE' and not an actual person.

Some people might claim that is what happened, saying they have read so and so on various media forums, but someone somewhere might just be telling porkie pies.

P.S. I didn't mean you Mr Humphries. :)

If BAFTA are paying attention to all these hissy fits they will get left off next years list. I dont think you get left off the BAFTAS fo throwing a hissy fit. You dont even get a nomination if your program is crap. It happened in 2004 I think.

He most likely said that so Sharon would not go to the awards and steal his thunder

I think its clear that Corrie did leave early because there are lots of pictures of them about town, and they where taken at the NTA Party

i don't really understand why coronation street are being so stroppy. i mean it is the MOST POPULAR serial drama award, it just shows that coronation street doesn't have as many DEDICATED fans, who take the time out to vote,as eastenders does.

EE Rocks

Well said Bradley#1!! I am not believing that terrible excuse, it was in the Sun, post office, heat mag (and no its for any age, really). It's just a crap excuse, sore losers would use.

Wish Sore Losers Would Just Get Over It

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The simple fact is EastEnders has a stronger fanbase than Corrie does. EastEnders has a brilliant website on the BBC pages and a web forum the BBC allow under the name of Walford Web Forums. If Coronation Street had a big web community for its fans they may pick up a following. But they don't so won't.

Its the same for Doctor Who. Just read this info,

Quote:
David Tennant and co may well have deserved to win in any event, but – again – fans of the BBC1 sci-fi revival are among the most active and organised on the web, with very professional fan sites dedicated to the show.

So the Time Lord is always going to have an advantage when it comes to fans motivated to vote & its the same for EastEnders

Corrie ans are probably at work and dont have the time to txt vote many times for EE or dont have the same access to the internet from schools:rolleyes:

Maybe you should just all get a crip ! Coronation Street lost, Eastenders won ! End of story just because EE is on more than Corrie does not mean that there is an age divide or because one is on more than the other !

Lets not have a battle thread again, I can't cope with anymore warnings ! Ritchie you know all about that don't you babe ?
