I'm the only gay in the Outback

LITTLE Britain’s Matt Lucas has landed a role in cult Aussie sitcom Kath And Kim.

Matt, a huge fan of the show which centres around warring Kath and her spoilt brat daughter Kim, has yet to find out who his character will be.

But the funnyman — famed for his catchphrase “the only gay in the village” has already met the sitcom’s creators and stars Jane Turner (Kath) and Gina Riley (Kim).

He said: “I don’t know what I’ll be doing yet. There was some possible suggestion that I would play a member of their family, an English cousin or something. I can’t wait. It’s going to be very exciting.”

Matt, 32, who based Little Britain’s “only gay” Dafydd Thomas on his own experience of growing up gay, will film his scenes when the Little Britain tour kicks off in Australia in January.

Kath And Kim is a big hit there and has become cult viewing in the UK.

It is on Living TV on Thursday at 9.30pm but will be shown on BBC2 after the station bought the terrestrial TV rights.

In Australia, the show is at the centre of a multi-million dollar bidding war between networks.

When Matt and comedy partner David Walliams, 35, get to Oz, they plan to make sure their live show has a Down Under flavour.

Matt revealed: “It’s going to be a challenge — we want to include a lot of local references.”

He said it would be their first trip to Australia, adding: “We’ve heard so much about it.

“And we are told that we have this audience out there.”
