Goldplated

Wednesdays - 10pm - Channel 4

John White (David Schofield) and his wife Beth (Barbara Marten) worked hard to drag themselves up from their working class roots via their own construction firm. They swapped the British Legion for the Country Club and their Manchester terrace for an eight bedroom mansion in the Cheshire triangle.

Their first born Darren (Darren Tighe) became John’s deputy in the family business. With his wife Terese (Poppy Miller), the social climbing daughter of a local Golf pro, they have a daughter, Charlotte (Angela Holmes). John and Beth’s youngest – Justin (Nicholas Shaw) and Lauren (Jamie Winstone) - now in their twenties, have never worked a day in their lives.

Then along came Cassidy (Kelly Harrison). John had been unfaithful before, and thought nothing of this latest young blonde beauty. Until she announced she was pregnant with his child. Careless accident or calculated piece of gold-digging, John surprised everyone by choosing to stand by Cassidy and before you could say midlife crisis, John and Beth were separated and discussing divorce.

This is such a great drama series, the first two episodes were brilliant and the show has lots of familiar faces! I like the way that the show is kinda narrated by the three women (forgot their names) all the time!

incest - yes i can see that happening

so many good storylines in this show brewing, how long before that bloke has an affair with his daughters art teacher?

This programme is so brilliant and the incest thing is so scary but you can't help be drawn to it.

CHANNEL 4 looks set to drop its Footballers' Wives-style drama Goldplated after only one series.

The eight-part show has lost nearly half its audience in just two weeks - and now pulls in less than a million viewers.

Goldplated, set in Cheshire’s Alderley Edge and starring Ray Winstone’s daughter Jamie, was beaten on Wednesday by BBC2’s Newsnight.

An insider said: “We had high hopes for it but viewers don’t seem to like it.”

The source also said comedy series Star Stories could be axed following miserable ratings.

I caught the repeat on Channel 4 last night, a brilliant episode! I agree, the footballer was nuts! I felt so sorry for Lauren after all the bruises she got, but it was quite sad at the end when she turned up and the footballer had gassed himself in the car. :(

It's so obvious that man fancies his daughter's art teacher.

TARNISHED Channel 4 drama Goldplated has been moved into a graveyard slot following poor ratings.

The eight-parter about the wealthy Cheshire set, which stars Jamie Winstone, has been shifted from 10pm to later slots in forthcoming weeks after attracting just 738,000 viewers last Wednesday.

Already doomed to be axed after just one series, Goldplated, which started with an audience of 1.4m, will move to 10.35pm on November 15 and 11.15pm on November 22.

A C4 spokesman said: “Goldplated has a young, upmarket core audience and we think it will perform well in a later slot. The final two episodes on November 29 will still run as a double bill at the original time of 10pm.”

C4 is also expected to revamp its Friday night line-up after disappointing ratings for big money game show Unanimous that was seen by only 750,000 at 9pm last Friday.

The channel is also pulling the US comedy The War At Home which was shown at 8pm on Fridays against EastEnders.
