I have been thinking about the Corrie cast and the fact most of its best characters are in their later years.
Come five years Blanche, Rita, Norrie, Emily, Jack, Vera & Betty are likely to be no longer with the show.
Do you think they should write them out now or what until death Albert Tatlock style?
Fortunately with such a large cast Corrie will have no trouble filling the inevitable vacancies with some of the less mature actors.

But the likes of Anthony Cotton, Kym Ryder and Tina O Brian are an embarrassment.
But the likes of Anthony Cotton, Kym Ryder and Tina O Brian are an embarrassment. Well I suppose three out of over sixty isnt too bad.
I think thats the advantage of having such a large cast. The older characters i think will be written out in time when they want to leave the show. I mean there are new families and characters coming in all the time.

The Conner family are awful and non really good actors. I can't see them lasting any longer than the Harris family did.

Actually the Connor family have been a great addition to Coronation Street and their characters have meshed well with the existing cast. Their arrival was believable and the storylines realistic

Coronation Street also has a strong cast who are now entering the "middle aged" age bracket.
Characters like Gail, Sally, Kevin, Eileen, Roy & Hayley, Deirdre, Liz, Janice...even those who are younger like Ashley and Steve McDonald will most probably all be around in 15-20 years time!
Even Dev could stay around if he was wanted!
I think its great that corrie has a cast if all different ages and are so huge, it adds more realism.

Well said Elsie. Welcome btw. :) You were a classic character!
I think all soaps would kill for a structure like Corrie's, where you have a good mix of characters from the 60, 70, 80s, and even the 90s. Even when the present 'oldies' leave in a few years, there are new seeds already growing into the next 'blue rinse brigade'. Compare that to EE, who in two months times will have just seven characters from pre-2000, which is very sad.

Coronation Street has always kept a complex yet believable fabric.
Its characters span 50 decades and unlike other serial dramas, Coronation Street's history is as important as its future.

Haha hardly...that was one of the biggest MISTAKES in Coronation Street's vast history!
(Mike Baldwin was an only child from 1976-2004! There was no brother around to make him 'Uncle Michael')
