View Full Version : Target Grades
Well im in year 11 and at the moment we have all been given out target grades which are worked out on a system, which on my opinion are stupid as some people in top sets there target grades are low, or sometimes for some other people they are too high, so in my opinion the system is stupid, and i prefer the estimated grades that teachers give you.
What im really asking you is do you think the target grades worked out on schools system are good or not?

i dont think they are cos they go on what other people have got in the past that are taking similar subjects to you, which is silly cos it doesnt mean you have the same intelligence as them! with that method i was predicted a B for alevel biology but i actually got an E. the systems stupid and if they predict you lower than youre capable of it doesnt make you feel very good about yourself
I think in a way yes they are good as it gives you something to aim for, but when i got my target A Level grades they went of the G Score system which i dont think is any good. As GCSE is completly diferent. I still think they are needed but i think the school system rely too greatly on them.
The idea of doing it off a system in my opinion is rubbish, the computer says you should get this so you have to get higher to get commended, or if it is too high, they moan at you because you aren't getting it. I think they should just do a test near the beginning of year 10 in the subjects that SATs wern't done in, and go two grades higher than that for the prediction. What were the SATs for if they weren't to allow predictions to be made?

I think they are are good thing as they give you something to aim to and the teacher for each subject set ours to what they think we can achieve and most of the teachers do not make them to high as the know you get asked if you do not achieve them.

yeh teachers setting target grades are a good idea, its when they use these silly computer systems to predict your grades that are useless!

Yeah we got one for some CAT test we did through the post and the computer worked them out but most were wrong so the teachers told us to ignore them.

Cos my teacher has another group and the grades from the cpmputer for her another group, well lets just say she says that they are too high and they will never get them.
The computer ones are too low in my school. I was predicted C's in my GCSEs off of them and off of my SATs I'm predicted A's.

nope i dont like them, im predicted b's & c's in all my subjects. but this is from a test i did in year 7. i did another one of these tests about a few weeks ago and im getting the results after half term. but i dont see the point. you do the best you can do, that is all you can do. i know for a fact there will be at least one person that wont be happy with what they are predicted with, always is.
I think they're good. All of mine were lower than what I got, and I knew I was going to achieve over them and I did. But i guess if they're higher than what you're working at it can seem really far off, for example at the start of year 10 i was getting E's in german whilst my predicted grade was a B and it was frustrating but for me it meant i had to work harder
nope i dont like them, im predicted b's & c's in all my subjects. but this is from a test i did in year 7. See what i mean some of they are so stupid and we have iproved since then

i think they're quite good as they give you something to work hard for and aim for! Im predicted B's and C's for my GCSE's with a couple of A's! But sometimes i feel that teachers expect too much from you!
See what i mean some of they are so stupid and we have iproved since then
Yeah, I did CATs at the start of years seven and nine and it's even more stupid as they don't even tell you what you got. You just end up getting a shock when you get your target grades.
