Sky-High Drama for new Mum
The Ramsay Street teenager goes into labour, but that’s not the only pain in her life
There is high trauma at every turn in the final days of Sky’s pregnancy in coming weeks of Neighbours. Not only is the man she loves in the arms of another woman. An insane woman wants to steal her child as soon as it’s born!
Sky’s (Stephanie McIntosh) pregnancy began amid chaos and confusion. She initially said Dylan (Damien Bodie) was the father, only to reveal it was his brothers Stingray (Ben Nicholas). Chaos will also haunt her. Even when she gives birth to a healthy daughter, she isn’t out of danger. When she has had to retire to a hospital bed, she finds herself sharing a room with Teresa (Hannah Greenwood) and thinks she’s made a friend. But Teresa’s intentions are anything but good.
The deranged girl wants two things from Sky – control of her life and custody of her baby. Sky doesn’t realise this. All she wants is for her child to be safe, to have Dylan by her side and the support of the baby’s father, Stingray. However, neither of the Timmins brothers offers the support she desperately craves. Stingray has descended further into an alcoholic haze with his drinking and wild nights getting way out of control. And Dylan has moved on. He’s now back with Elle (Pippa Black), who has confessed she’s in love with him. Dylan knows Sky needs him, but his heart is with Elle and their future.
Confused by the absent of both brothers, Sky decides on a day away from the hospital to seek them out. Worried about Stingray’s heavy drinking, and believing fatherhood can save him from self-destruction, she arrives at Lassiters to find him. But a mix-up occurs at reception. Instead, Sky finds herself in the wrong hotel room – and face to face with Dylan and Elle in bed together! The trauma of the moment overwhelms Sky and she collapses to the floor. “Something terrible is happening!” she yells, clutching at her stomach as stabbing pain tears through her body.
At the hospital, Karl (Alan Fletcher) declares Sky has gone into premature labour. With the contractions becoming much stronger, she is wheeled into the delivery room. Then Teresa walks in. “If you have done anything to risk that baby’s life, I will get you, Sky! she screams. Karl knows of Teresa’s deadly obsession with Sky and instructs the nurses to take her to the psychiatric ward where she belongs.
Harold (Ian Smith), Janelle (Nell Feeney) and Loris (Kate Fitzpatrick) all rush to provide Sky with the support she needs, and the teenager clings to her grandfather’s hand as she screams while giving birth. With one last push, the child is finally born. When Sky sees her new baby, and with Harold close by, she announces she will call the girl Kerry, in honour of her dead mum. Meanwhile in the psychiatric ward, a dangerous idea enters Teresa’s mind. Tomorrow, the new baby will be hers, and Sky will be gone forever.
