View Full Version : Instant Messaging Services
For my A Level ICT course, i'm doing a unit on Internet services. Part of this is about Instant Messaging Services like AIM, MSN, Yahoo and Skype.
I use MSN a lot, so i dont need anything more on that, but if anyone uses any of IM service, then what i really need is some personal opinions about all of those. The type of thing is, if the features are good on them, compared to other IM services, and just generally your opinions about them.
So if anyone can help, then it would be fab :D

I have yahoo aim and msn.
Yahoo is good with its skins but noone really has it!
AIM was good about 5 years ago but its really outdated now and looks boring. You cant play games with people on it and it is kinda rubbish. I only have it beause my ISP is aol. Oh yeh and you cant use custom icons!
and MSN is good. everyone has it which helps when you want to talk to your friends. It looks modern. YOu can change skins. Its customisable. You can play real time games with your friends. And now they have introdued offline mesaging. So msn is definatly the most convenient and athetically pleasing sp?
Hope that helps
I have no friends really so i dont really use any of them. I f i do then it would be MSN, its great to contact people when you need to know what the geography homework was.
So everyone thats said they only dont use it, because not many other people have it... well, if you had the same amount of people on it, as MSN for example, would you use it over MSN, or not?
If that makes sense...

Possibly. But then, because I'm so used to MSN, then I wouldn't want to get used to something else, if you get me.

NO becuase I dont like the layout. or the lack of player to player games. msn is simpler

i and my friends have always used yahoo messenger and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. i think younger people automatically opt for MSN as it is the thing to be on at the moment. dont really think one is better than the other.

Msn always for me.. It so much easier to use and looks more welcoming!! Even at first I tried both but realised most had MSN and I can see why too..
i used yahoo for a little bit! it was rubbish, kept freezing on me so i unistalled it! i only had 2 contacts on it anyways as everyone uses msn! i would only use msn
I'm doing something like this aswell.
In the past i've used MSN, Yahoo, Skype, AIM and one other that i can't remember the name of.
I've stuck with MSN for most of the time because:
1)most people have it
2)it's easy to use
3)it hasn't messed my pc up yet
4)it has more features- BUT Yahoo has contact nicknaming and offline messaging for years, so that isn't really new.
5)you can use any type of account now with msn messenger
6) upgrades etc have made it exciting
here's why i haven't stuck with the others:
1)not many people have it
2)it's messed up my pc
3)Skype- people got to be able to speak, it's not the same with a chat window, so you can't listen to music etc
4)Yahoo- when i last used it my pc wasn't up to spec and it messed it up, and i think you had to pay for bits
5)there was no protection against random people chatting with you, MSN you got to add the person
7)i had to have so many accounts it wasn't worth it
I just use MSN because my PC came with an early version of it already installed, and its promotional methods are a lot less annoying. With yahoo, all you have to do is go into the homepage and its "Download yahoo toolbar free, get two email accounts today, only on yahoo!" or something like that.
