A midwife can refuse an epidural if you are too far into your labour.. in this case Honey was and that was stated in the episode.. Also in relation to the other thing, the midwife did tell her to wait on the doctor but Honey pushed her into telling her

i actually enjoyed that episode thought it was good drama,i thought honey was funny and the writing was excellent for a change but i'm not a midwife and so i wouldn't be scrutinising it for accuracy,i think she did ask for her epidoodle early but cos she hd opted for a natural birth the midwife encouraged her to wait thats why she locked herself in the bathroom,i think the midwives are also annoyed at the lack of support honeys been given also,it may have made great veiwing but can EE keep up the story nd keep the facts corect so they dont give out wrong information i dont know, its a shame leslie granthem isn't still there because as a father of a downs child his information from hands on could have been useful
Its not just that episode, i think every childbirth i have seen on screen has scared the .. out of me. Definatly dont think i shall be doing that.
For me though i thought that EE were pretty good with the details and i think that the people just fancy a maon.

From my two experiences I wouldn't recommend given birth to anyone.. my midwife shouted at me to keep quiet, I was in a lot of pain. On my first hadn't slept in 2 days and they wouldn't let me sleep when I got the epidural but they let my sister sleep as she wasn't ready. I had ages to go too but they kept me awake... I think it depends on the midwife

I can't believe she told you to be quiet!! How bloody rude! I wonder if she had experienced childbirth herself!?! If I was told to not make any noise when I had my two I would have told her where to go.

Yeah she said I was scaring other patients and if I didn't keep quiet they won't be able to give me an epidural.. She was a right cow

I would have made a complaint about her behaviour. It's bad enough having to give birth in front of a load of strangers while in tons and tons of pain, with someone making you feel uncomfortable by telling you to be quiet!!!
As for the EE storyline, like you said she was 9cm dilated when she arrived at the hospital which is far too progressed to be given a epidoodle as Honey called it, so I do not know what they are complaining about. Although, I have to agree with them about the fact they did not tell both parents about their babies condition together.

As a medical student, if you have to move someone to a private room and they kept asking and asking you why? why? why? .. what would you tell them? That midwife kept saying to wait for Billy and the consultant but Honey kept at her to say what was going on? What is the correct procedure in that case?

The midwife should not have told Honey about the potential condition of her baby, I believe this was the job of the consultant who should have broken the bad news in the presence of both parents. This is the 'proper procedure' however, in real life rules are broken, I mean we see enough of Holby to know that, lol. In my opinion she should have said nothing, although I know this is hard when a patient who is frightened and does not know what's happening keeps asking for the truth.
Had it been me, I would have been really pissed off with the midwife for not telling me and would be worried sick about what had happened.. Yes it was a case for the consultant to tell them both but had I been a doctor and had someone so innocent as honey looking like a frighten creature, I am sure i would have broken the rules too

Yeah, if I was in her position I would have been very angry.
I suppose at the end of the day people are human and emotion is a strong part of that, hence her telling Honey the news.
