View Full Version : Enid Blyton
For those that don't read her books, you can find out a bit more about Enid Blyton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enid_Blyton) on Wikipedia.
Do children in this day and age still read her books? All the kids I know read books by modern authors (e.g. JK Rowling) and the world seems to have forgotten all about the wonderful stories that Enid Blyton wrote for a whole generation (she averaged about 1.67 books per month!).
Not in my house they don't.. I have quiet a few Enid Blyton books and I read them to my daughter.. I still love them.. Famous Five, Mallory towers, mystery of the "insert title", Mr Pinkwhistle ( I think that was the name). I read so many of these grown up and they were so innocent...

I had a big-ish book with loads of short stories in :D That used to be my favourite book, but I lent it to my mate, and never got it back :(
I remembered these books with great fondness and rushed to read them to my sons when they were small.
I was gutted to find that they were small minded uppermiddle class dross.
Bigoted, racist and soooo superior.
She wrote Noddy, too

Oh I loved reading Enid Blyton books (especially The Famous Five) when I was little! Think they were the first books I read independently.
Then I got my next teacher (an old skinny lady with more facial hair than my pet labrador, and she came to school on a broomstick - er well that was the rumour. lol) who hated Enid Blyton stories with a passion, and whom belittled my friends and I for reading them, and she banned them from even being brought into the classroom!!!
I know Enid Blyton is considered to be rather old fashioned and for that matter out of fashion these days. Especially as they were set in a Britain thats long gone. However, I'll always have a soft spot for them! :)
I read them when i was younger, mainly in Infant and Primary school. The Famous Five was a great read in those days. But theres so many other types of books out now, like Harry Potter as you said, its not surprising her books aren't read too much now.
Enid rawks ;) I used to read her books all the time when I was littler!
