Inspector Gina Gold (ROBERTA TAYLOR) with PCs Tony Stamp (GRAHAM COLE) and Reg Hollis (JEFF STEWART) attend a burnt out B&B where an Eastern European man in his forties was seen helping kids out of the burning building and bundling them into a white van. As Tony and Reg collect CCTV footage, they spot Andrei Balev (SERGE SORIC) in the van they are looking for and arrest him. Detective Sergeants Phil Hunter (SCOTT MASLEN) and Sam Nixon (LISA MAXWELL) interview Balev and when Phil accuses him of starting the fire deliberately, he says that he works for the man who owns the B&B. He tells them he takes the parents to work and cares for their children until the adults come home. Balev refuses to give them the man’s name and explains he is working his debt off which paid for his passage to the UK. The pair investigate further and after discovering the B&B was full of illegal immigrants, Sam makes a connection with Balev - she convinces him to make a statement against the gang master and promises him witness protection.

Meanwhile, the Durante rape case is in jeopardy when Beth Adamson (KEELEY FORSYTH) is in the frame for the assault on Keith Durante (WAYNE FOSKETT). Intent on bring Durante down, Trainee DC Kezia Walker (CAT SIMMONS) decides to show Durante’s wife Louisa (HANNAH STOREY) the tapes from yesterday’s sting operation showing her husband visiting Beth and declaring his love for her. Kezia is over the moon when Louise withdraws her alibis and Kezia and DCI Jack Meadows (SIMON ROUSE) arrest Durante. Tough solicitor, Nick Davidson (STEVEN CARTAIT) prevents a frustrated Jack asking the questions he wants to and they are unable to charge Durante. Under the guise of taking a statement for the assault, Kezia and Jack get Sergeant Smithy (ALEX WALKINSHAW) to soften Durante and gain his trust to the point where he is ready to confess. Will the well-timed ‘accidental meeting’ with Beth push her accused rapist over the edge?

Concerned for his job at Sun Hill, Tony explains to Reg that Superintendent John Heaton (DANIEL FLYNN) is thinking about getting rid of the more mature members of the relief – replacing them with younger models. Also, realising she has no long-term future with DS Stuart Turner (DOUG RAO) a resolute Sam ends their relationship.

Tony Stamp (GRAHAM COLE) turns up for work late after leaving his sister, Jacquie (PAULINE WHITAKER) at home with their dad, Norman (JOHN WOODVINE) who is suffering with a cold. Concerned by the rumour that Superintendent John Heaton (DANIEL FLYNN) is looking to replace the older officers with younger ones, Sergeant Smithy (ALEX WALKINSHAW) assigns PC Reg Hollis (JEFF STEWART) and a peeved Tony to finding Dawn Swanson’s (EMMA AMOS) dog. The case takes a dramatic turn when the cops question Dawn’s husband, George (DANNY WEBB) and the dog-napping enquiry turns into a murder investigation…

After netting a good result, Tony goes to the hospital after receiving a call from his sister to say that Norman has got pneumonia. At his father’s bedside, Tony is horrified when his dad suffers a heart attack and stops breathing. Tony calls for help and doctors manage to save him, which upsets Jacquie as Norman didn’t want to be kept alive.

Meanwhile, PC Will Fletcher (GARY LUCY) receives a warm welcome from the team on his return to work after getting caught up in a bomb explosion. He is pleased when he is paired with PC Emma Keane (MELANIE GUTTERIDGE) and attempts to cover his disappointment when she tells him she has got engaged to Matt Hinckley (MARK DEXTER). Matt later enrages Will by warning him to keep his hands off her.

Will and Emma are soon called out to a disturbance at Louisa Durante’s (HANNAH STOREY) house, who’s husband, Keith (WAYNE FOSKETT) has recently been convicted for rape. There is no answer at the door and Will breaks in, hate mail is found on the door mat and Emma makes her way upstairs to find Louisa has hung herself. Emma desperately rushes to take her weight and Will cuts the rope. They realise they have found her just in time when Will feels a pulse and calls for an ambulance. Emma and Will fill DC Mickey Webb (CHRIS SIMMONS) in and Trainee DC Kezia Walker (CAT SIMMON) chats to Louisa about what happened. Mickey and Kezia investigate further and after questioning a reluctant neighbour, discovers that Louisa has been the target of a massive hate campaign.

Also, PC Dan Casper (CHRIS JARVIS) winds PC Lewis Hardy (AML AMEEN) who is feeling suffocated by girlfriend Holly Perkins’ (FLORENCE BELL) constant texting. Her father, DC Terry Perkins (BRUCE BYRON), orders Lewis to call her as she has also been hassling him. Lust also seems to be in the air when Kezia and Smithy get it on in the Sergeants office.

Later, in the locker room, Will is stunned when a bottle of steroids fall out of Dan’s gym bag. The keen boxer tells Will that they are for medicinal purposes to help his shoulder recover and he will stop taking them after his next fight…

After reminding the team that PC Dan Casper (CHRIS JARVIS) is fighting in the inter-service boxing championship final tonight, Inspector Gina Gold (ROBERTA TAYLOR) assigns an infuriated PC Lewis Hardy (AML AMEEN) to giving a group of cub scouts a guided tour of Sun Hill Station.

Whilst on patrol, Dan and PC Will Fletcher (GARY LUCY) find an unconscious man in the street and on reaching St Hugh’s, discover that the victim has overdosed on hospital-grade morphine. The man dies and the officers are made aware that if there is any more morphine on the street, he won’t be the last to lose his life. Will and Dan check local hospitals and on realising that St Hugh’s is the only hospital to be missing the drug, they set about questioning the staff. The officers discover that Dr Stephen Baker (STEVEN PINDER) is in charge of the in-house investigation and are annoyed when he proves to be extremely unhelpful. Through further questioning, Will and Dan realise that one nurse, Sonia Baker (CLARE MCCARRON), keeps appearing in the logs for the pharmaceutical deliveries so they are keen to talk to her.

Elsewhere, Detective Constables Mickey Webb (CHRIS SIMMONS) and Terry Perkins (BRUCE BYRON) pressure a local dealer who has been found dealing morphine into giving up the name of who supplied him with the drug. CID and Uniform pull together to uncover the truth, and when the officers realise that St Hugh’s nurse, Sonia is married to Stephen Baker they decide to search their home. Stephen is stunned when Dan uncovers five ampoules of morphine in Sonia Baker’s possession, and arrests her. She denies supplying the morphine but ashamedly admits to being an addict. PC Emma Keane (MELANIE GUTTERIDGE) is given the task of scanning CCTV footage at the hospital and finally uncovers who really has been stealing and dealing…

After a long day, Will asks Dan again about his steroid use. Dan assures him it’s for medicinal purposes and when Will suggests they talk to Gina about it, Dan loses it and slams a stunned Will against the lockers. He eventually cools off and promises to lose the match tonight for fear of permanent damage to his health and career. As the team leave to support Dan ‘the man’ Casper, DS Phil Hunter (SCOTT MASLEN) offers to help a newly single DS Sam Nixon (LISA MAXWELL) with her paperwork over a bottle of wine and a takeaway.

The crowd gather around the ring and even Superintendent John Heaton (DANIEL FLYNN) attends wearing a badge supporting Dan. Taken in by the atmosphere of the match, Dan knocks his opponent out and wins, but seeing Will’s face, he realises it’s a hollow victory.

And PC Tony Stamp (GRAHAM COLE) pays his last respects with sister, Jacquie (PAULINE WHITAKER) as their father Norman (JOHN WOODVINE) peacefully passes away.
