View Full Version : Your unpopular opinions

Johnny Allen

this isnt to cause arguments I just thought that we should all share are opinions that might not be popular with others, just for fun.

I'll Start;

Little Britain is unfunny garbage and I have yet to laugh once in an entire episode.

Both the Harry Potter books and films are greatly over-rated.

Jose Mourniho is an average manager at best.

Coronation st hasn't been the same since Richard Hillman left.

the Sopranos is the greatest show ever created.

With my friends..i have very unpopular opinions...the biggest one being i am a big fan of Big Brother and i watch every series, i think it's a great show.

I am with you on this and I also think Lord of the Rings is the biggest waste of 9 hours (if you watch the commerical version, it is beyond me why anyone would watch the one with extra footage) and I have never seen Star War and don't want to

Little Britian is totally unfunny and so was the Fast show!
Dawn French is by far the best british female comedian and Father Ted should be watched by more people and countries!!

Bryan

the legal system should stop be so much in favour of women! forget this mother before father in custody battles, and forget this woman gets half of a mans fortunes (i.e mills mcartney) it should be judged on individual cases. If a man had 2p in his bank account and the woman had a million, she could take one of his pennies, but he couldnt take none of her million...its just out of order!

also immigration, legal or illegal... any person who hasnt got two generations or more of relatives that were born in this country...get them out! they are stealing jobs, government funds and houses! some cant speak the language and have no intentions of getting a job, they will stay here until their dying day sponging off the goverment!

extreme and unpopular views here from me, but they are two i strongly believe in.

I dont think your mad either. I dont see the point of spending ages reading the 700+ pages non-stop when they get the book. My sister does it. It's pointless if you ask me. And there are those who buy the book at midnight and try and read it before 6am. Who can read that fast! I am a speed reader but no way could i do that.

And all the hype that surrounds it; pages leaking out, books being stolen, harry being killed off. I couldnt care less.

just cause they cant speak the language doesnt mean they shouldnt be here! its there right to speak what they want most people who go on holiday more then half of them dont try learning other cultures languages

but i agree on taking jobs its a bloody nusiance i want a labouring job but all the foreigners have taken them the ones i want and they work cheaper aswell

If employers were forced to pay the same wage to foreign nationals as they do to nationals then this would not be a problem. You can't blame these people for stealing jobs, they need work too and they are getting paid far far less then you would. Blame the government for allowing Employers to hire them for less then minium wage...

And Bry, i am a very suprised and upset by your outburst. Some of these people are escaping a life so horrid that you can't even imagine what they are going through.. You can't paint everyone with the same brush

just cause they cant speak the language doesnt mean they shouldnt be here! its there right to speak what they want most people who go on holiday more then half of them dont try learning other cultures languages

there's a differnence between going on holiday to a coutnry and living there. granted not many people learn a langauge when they go on holiday, but if you are going to live in a coutnry it is common cortesy to speak that langauge, to not bother is plain rude! if i was to move to spain, franch, italy etc I would learn as much of the langauge as i could... so to here immigrants etc who live in the UK not being able to say a word of the langauge...its disgusitng... my mom works in a post office and hands BRITISH GOVERNMENT BENEFITS to some asylum seekers, all they can say in english is the word money... no please, thank yous, hello... they dont know known of the langauge, it's digusting

rant over lol!

asylum seekers are a different matter to immigrants... as they really do have a reason to be here... but why are most of them in the uk!? ever other european countries immigration levels are low...and why is that? becuase their governments are tight on it! The uk let in everybody and anybody and will give them money at hand... they are stopping state pensions becuase their isnt enough money... one ayslum seeker gets paid 800 quid a week... you could pay about 7 pensioners a week with that money... its not asylum seekers full stop, its more our government for letting so many in and being so laid back with its policies.

if an asylum seeker tries does work, contributes to the economy, makes an effort to intigrate and learn the langauge i have no real issues with them, however there are so many bad examples of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants that we end up forming bad opinions of them.

Back to a lighter note.

Unpopular opinions with my mum Father Ted and Shameless are the best programmes on TV. She just doesnt agree

Englad Football team are a bunch overpaid useless men who arent really capable of playing Sunday League.

Bryan

Englad Football team are a bunch overpaid useless men who arent really capable of playing Sunday League.

The england team!? More like the entire preimership! They get paid more in a week than a doctor does in 5 or more years...makes me sick to the stomach

football is an over rated sport and it isnt about sport anymore, its all about money, its taken the fun out of it, and has ruined the once "beautiful game"

Amber
04-09-2006, 17:32
Football is so stupid. It used to be a game and games are supposed to be fun but now it seems to be like a war between countries.

Mind you, saying that, I support Ukraine as a team :D - not England

Also since when have footballers been actors? Everytime I force myself to watch the football, it's as if most of the players are auditioning for a part in a play. Like the other week I watched a player get tackled and he acted like he was dying!

itsme!
04-09-2006, 17:34
i have to agree with the football i mean what does d beckham get a year-ive no idea but im guessing its millions and what did he have to do to get it, learn how to be able to kcik a ball around and be talented at it? wher as normal hard working people have to go to university and get a levels before they can even think about earning more than 40 k a year

.:SpIcYsPy:.

Sam-Elle

i also agree with football, i do watch it but the money they make is unbeliveable. just for kicking a ball around a pitch. i can do that i do dont get paid large sums of money. its sick. and the way you have people dreaming of being in their shoes is just wrong. they havent done anything remarkable.

the england team is overated - but then again i like crouch and gerrard (im a liverpool suporter)

also eurovision (just a random opinion, have no idea how that got in my mind). well its always neighbouring countrys voting for each other. its become about politics rather than a song contest. and utterly pointless then, cause its lost its meaning. even though i do like a couple of songs from the last couple of years.

I totally agree about football i hate and never watch it i do not see the point of was a bunch of over-paid men running up and down and pitch and scoring goals ok not everyone can do it but the amount they get is shocking.
Also the Harry Potter books and film bore me i read 3 and saw the first film but i can not be bothered anymore and do not see why people queue at midnight to get a book.I also do not like Lord of the Rings i have not actually read any of them or saw the films but the whole idea does not appel to me.I am not into Little Britain either i do not find it funny.

Tori
04-09-2006, 20:26

hmmmm unpopular opinions ...

I have no interest in reading / watching lord of the rings

I dont 'get' Little Britain. or the simpsons.

The Scary Movie films are appauling and disgusting

South park is the funniest thing on tv

I like the Beckhams

The English media are a joke when it comes to their highly over rated and over paid footballers. thank god they got put out of the world cup when they didor we would of been hearing about it for the next 40 years - oh no wait, theyre still witttering on about 1966

A lot of people living in the UK appear to be biggots and ignorant of what is gong on in countries around the world

You shouldnt comment on something without being able to back it up with proven facts (ok not an unpopular opntion its just pi**ses me off)

ok thats enough for now - will think of more!

I am with you on this Ems...i just didn't get it at all and i thought i was the only one...my brother showed me the Dvds but i didn't laugh once...i think the whole point of the show is that it reflects what real life is like working in an office...and people who work in offices will know that the people that are represented on screen are like the people who they work with in real life if that makes sense..and that's what makes it funny.

heres some random thoughts:

white people that think they're black are complete nutters and most of the time look so stupid wait- ARE stupid and should be shunned by their race.

burberry should create anti-chav T-shirts for the rest of britain

Immigrants who scrounge off the country and do NOTHING should get severe beatings of our great OAP'S who get crud pensions.

anyone who works with people with mentally disabled people should be given medals .

Someone to tell the osbourne family that jack and kelly are fat useless wasters who are only given half their fame through their mum and dads popularity.

the annoying toads that says things like CHU instead of 'you' etc etc...again we're in england if you dont like the language theirs some lovely places to say CHU in south central L.A

that modern day rap music really sucks and if they release another 2pac song im gonna throw up, the guys dead and sad thing was most of his fans now was watching recess and smart guy when he was alive-so much for their street cred.(for the record I loved recess and smart guy)

In schools when they give pupils R.E lessons they should give students a choice in what they learn because when I was a kid I never liked hearing about what muslims do and wear,as Im not a muslim I couldnt care less about their religeon or their beliefs and when I have a kid I sure as hell dont want them being in the same situtation.....especially when our country is under attack from the religeon in question.

i think that r.e in school make their lessons biased towards the "god" side because i remember when i was learning about the big bang or evoloution we only studied the good points for evolution not the bad and then we only learnt the bad and unbelievable points towards the big bang theory, making us belive that the world was created by evolution (god) they didnt give us a chance to discuss big bangs theory it was all about god and how he made the world

also immigration, legal or illegal... any person who hasnt got two generations or more of relatives that were born in this country...get them out! they are stealing jobs, government funds and houses! some cant speak the language and have no intentions of getting a job, they will stay here until their dying day sponging off the goverment!

extreme and unpopular views here from me, but they are two i strongly believe in.

So that would be me out of this country then. I don't think I've ever stolen a job - working class background, my dad slaved away in the mills for 30 years, 12 hours+ night shifts, never sponged off the state once, never had council housing or govt funds until they received their state pension. English is my native tongue, all my family speak english - in fact, my father can speak 8 languages fluently. I know more about the history and politics of my country (i.e. England to the uneducated) than most people.

On the other hand, I know people of all races who are too lazy to work, have no intention to work and sponge of the state. And the sad thing is the majority of them were born here, but would like to blame the ills of society on anyone else but them. Look at where there is a dense population of immigrants and you will see high instances of immigrants committing crimes. Likewise, look at any chav estate and what do you see? The same problem. Lets assume you managed to get 'rid' of immigrants tomorrow. You're still going to have the same problem. Who are you going to blame then? Will you turn on your neighbour?

Yes, immigration is a problem. Yes, there are immigrants involved in crime. Yes, we need to address the problem. But if you really think that following the BNP policy of forced repatriation will ever work, you are wrong. You are more likely to get a proccess of ethnic cleansing. Using your logic, would the native American Indians be justified in forceful repatriation? Or the South Africans or Australian Aboriginals? Surely if you want to kick out all immigrants, you don't mind if other countries kick out their immigrants, and I do assume that there is a policy in place to welcome back the 'native' people of this land that 'betrayed' it by living abroad?

On a side note (and this is not a comment on the original post)
The irony of the situation is that Britain has colonised more land than any other country in history, brought back immense wealth (be it legal or not) during its empire status, and we believe in a free economy as long as it benefits us. One of my neighbours, who has now sadly passed away, fought in WW II. He welcomed immigration as that is what helped rebuild this country. And he told me the reason why he had deep hatred for the BNP (or the NF as it was back then). WW II was about freedom, fighting against extermism and prejudice. Those that fought and died in WW II gave up their lives so we could enjoy our freedom today.

"Cut me and I bleed too," was one of his favourite comments. How apt.

I do assume that there is a policy in place to welcome back the 'native' people of this land that 'betrayed' it by living abroad?

No if you leave England for whatever reason you have to be put back into the system as you won't be recognised. I strongly object to this.

People who move abroad are not betraying England the main reason is due to the fact that they are being pushed out, no longer feel safe in their own country due to the high level of crime, high cost of living and the way the government runs the country. In other words they move abroad for a better, safer and much happier way of life, where stricter laws are inplace, there is a very low crime rate and in some countries zero tolerence.:)
And O.K yes sunshine:lol:

I hate most of all politicians who stick their noses into other countries business etc, when they have no idea whatsoever how things work in that country. To understand "Culture" and how the country is run you have to live in it and amongst the people of that country for a period of time before you can understand. No one should really interfere in the running of another country. In some countries all cultures of all religions and of all race live very happily and trouble free together, reason being because of the way things are "handled"

I also agree that if you live and are planning on making a new life in a foreign country you should learn the language. The main problem is a lot of countries speak English, even so you do need to learn the language as there will be times when you need to speak the language of a country i.e in the villages

Dear oh dear oh dear!

1. In a divorce, the man has just as much right to the woman's funds as she has to his. It is 50/50 both ways.

On this thread so far these are unpopular views anyway, lol

I LOVE Star Wars! The eternal fight between good and evil. The original film was almost a spiritual experience for me, and although none of the others have lived up to that, I enjoyed them for what they were.

I ADORE Lord of the Rings - book and film. I first read the book when I was ten, and I have reread it many, many times. I LOVED the films (and I especially love Legolas  )

I LIKE Harry Potter a lot, I just wish that the editing was a bit more ruthless from book 4 onward.

I DISLIKE all soaps - I stopped watching them about 6 months ago, and boy - I have so much more time!

I'm with you on Star Wars - the three originals are the best - why oh why, did they have to do the prequels though :searchme:

Soaps - like you, I gave up watching all of them. They're all as bad as each other and I actually spend time talking to my hubby these days!! (May have to start watching again thinking about it!! :rotfl: )

Abortion/Termination - Everyone has the right to make their own decision and not to be hounded by people for it, or be made to feel like a murderer for it - but its not birth control either!

I'm all for Euthanasia in the right circumstances.

Immigration - I don't have a problem with it to an extent, but please, can we put a cap on the numbers that are coming in!

Houses in Devon/Cornwall - Stop people from buying holiday homes down here! The local people that are born and bred here and unable to purchase any property down here. We love the tourism, but please, the number of people here that are unable to purchase their first home because of the constant price rises (some, not all, but some accountable to the number of second homes being purchased down here.)

South West Water - In this region, we are on one of the lowest wages, yet our water bills are amongst the highest. What the heck is going on. Yes we have lots of coastline to keep clean (but you'd never catch me swimming in any of it, despite the supposed cleanliness of it and the "Blue Flags" that have been awarded - hooray!) , but when we the consumer are having to pay for the fines that our water board keep getting from the Environment Agency etc - its beyond a joke! (Could you detect the sarcasm there by the way?! :D )

The F Word - Yes, I use it, and far too much, but hearing children of 12 and younger using it, a) as a normal word in a sentence and b) whilst having a go at the OAP walking the down the street towards them, because they couldn't move out of their way in time (didn't you know, they own the pavement!) - not on!

Bullying - the supposed school policies that exist, but its constantly left to the parent to sort it out as the school can't/won't do anything.

Health Visitor policies of do not shout at your child, but politely ask them not to do something. Erm, ok, so thats why a lot of people no longer have respect for anyone or anything anymore. If one of my sons are climbing on a wall and lobbing stones etc at people as they walk past, I'm sorry if I offend anyone, buy telling then, in no uncertain terms, to get heck down, and not ask him politely if he could stop throwing stones at the passers by as it could hurt them!

I'm sure I could go on, but I feel like I'm ranting instead, so will now be quiet lol. (And reading back through these, I also feel a lot older than my actual years lol)

Hmm..

Could you not have told me that BEFORE I went to St Ives on holiday?

I thought that the sea looked really clean, and my boys loved surfing there.

1. In a divorce, the man has just as much right to the woman's funds as she has to his. It is 50/50 both ways.

i totally agree with this. it happened a friend of mind and totally broke him both emotionally and financially.

I agree with you on both of those! Cornwall country council and constantly giving planning permissions for box houses to be built covering the cornish countryside. Ruining the countryside and people still cant afford the houses.

Secondly SWW youd think with the rate of waterbills the water would at least me clean when its pumped into the sea and its not. SO if they wont clean it they should at least lower the prices

Languages should be made compulsory again in schools. When I was at schoool 3 years ago It was always compulsory. Now tehy dont have to learn lanages in secondary school but tehy are introducing it for primary schools. Its important taht you can talk to people even if its only french. I went to an interantional watersporst festival and all the french were talking to us in perfect english but yet i was teh only one who could talk to tem in their language.

RE should be compulsory aswell. The amount of wars and arguements that start beacuse of peoples ignorance of other peoples faiths.

In divorce cases the spilt of the funds should not be 50/50 the individauls circumstances should be taken into account. and if one partner cannot pay the debts they wholely created they should be discounted as opposed to the partner who had nothing to do with them getting them!

I totally agree with you on this one, but people don't seem to see it that way. i can speak french and german and it has been enjoyable learning them, and it is also great that when i go on holiday i can speak to people. my dad can't speak french so it really is a direct contrast because we see how he can't really get by yet we can

Yeah, and not even all people can speak english in france so you really should know the basics imo... numbers, please + thank yous and basic stuff like that... for example we got ill one year i was about 6 and my mum was learning french. the doctor couldn't speak english so we had to get a translator... costly when within 10 years 3 of us can speak good french!

I heard people talking about Christmas today!! which has encouraged me to confess....I really don't like Christmas any more. I think as a child you really love Christmas! My little sister loves Christmas and me and the rest of my family always put in our best efforts to make it a wonderful Christmas for her.

But I don't like Christmas.

Reasons:

1. Sending endless cards to everyone you know and buying presents - I just can't be bothered. I'll send cards and presents to close family and friends, but not to everyone I know. Too much time and hassle. If I see you then saying 'Merry Christmas' will do.

2. Those dreaded family gatherings. I had to go to one last year. I find it too stressful to move around from house to house seeing endless family and would rather much stay at home with my mum dad brother and sister. It's far more relaxing. The family gathering last year consisted of awkward small talk with people who I haven't seen for a whole year and we're only talking to each other and being polite because "it's Christmas".

3. Some people become obsessed with spoiling their children with the latest gadgets and getting the most expensive presents for them possible. When I grew up, Christmas was important as me and my close family spent the whole day doing things together, such as playing board games and sherads sp? I think that has been slightly lost now. We do buy my little sister presents, but we also carry on doing everything as a family as it's the one day where we all do something together. I think we should be taught that we earn gifts through hard work and we shouldn't expect to recieve them for nothing.

4. The hysteria surrounding Christmas - the crowded shops, people running around like headless chickens. I just look forward to everything getting back to normal again.

Wow, I do sound really bitter don't I? Ok, I am officially a Scrooge!

One thing I will say I love about Christmas though is the Christmas dinner!

I agree with this completely. I think cards are a waste of time and money, whatever the occasion. You only throw them in the bin at the end of the day. What a waste. My family and friends know that I don't like birthday cards, why spend three quid on a bit of cardboard with some lovely dovey writing inside (which I also hate)?

Christmas is a time for my dad's sisters to remember he has children. Seriously, I don't want their money if they can't be bothered to stay in contact throughout the year. They only buy expensive things to make up for their inability to keep in contact with their nieces. An email costs nothing and takes a few minutes

I don't understand why my mum writes hundreds of cards then hand delivers them (always p*ssed me off) with the excuse that "it's Christmas and I can't forget all my cousins, cousins children, aunties, uncles, people who are elderly and on their own..."

Concurred. I hate it when my grandparents (dad's rich parents) ask me what I would like then buy the present and hand an envelope with fifty quid in it. Sure it's nice to get money but it always feels like I'm being bought. Christmas is about spending time with family, drinking and eating too much and just having fun.

4. The hysteria surrounding Christmas - the crowded shops, people running around like headless chickens. I just look forward to everything getting back to normal again.

I don't mind this actually!! I love going shopping, buying the food, cooking the dinner, making cake that no one eats, putting the tree up.

One thing I will say I love about Christmas though is the Christmas dinner!

Me too
